The only drawback is ASIAIR has to be turned on in order to preplan a session in advance. Why can’t the app be entered without the the device itself being on
I use it the same way you have suggested,(135 f2, lens, DSLR, SW GTi mount, EAF and ZWO mini guider) and it works great. My other set ups don't use ZWO supported astronomy cameras so I control them with a PLL Eagle LE which is a much superior unit but considerably larger and far more expensive. For the cost the ASIAir mini must be one of the best value for money items around at the moment and is definitely worth having for using with a light grab and go set up. For larger set ups, unless you only intend using ZWO hard and software, I would consider using an Eagle or similar, on which you can run any software and connect to any hardware you like.
Great comparison, best I've seen, only thing I don't agree with is this, I'm new to the scene and have a neq6(old mount) pro with Canon 6d and for me to go wireless I need to use a laptop to have complete control of camera exposure times and a Mobil device to control the mount through synscan and stellarium and the asiair can conveniently put it all on a Mobil device making it more accessible to the younger generation as they are very tech orientated. The only down side is I can't take video of planets in asiair with my canon and if I used a dedicated camera I also couldn't use it but at the end of the day there is 3 planets we could image vs 100s of deep sky objects that require long exposures and that will not be affected by USB 2.0 so it's a great setup for me who doesn't want wires etc hanging about. Oh I have the skywatcher wifi dongle on my mount to connect it to home wifi and use it from inside my home.
Should have just got to the point and said USB2 is limited to 30mb/s based on the interface of the system and thumb drive controller and may not reach the 480mbs/60mbs ever. Where as USB3 gen 3 can reach 20gbs. So users of pro grade dedicated astro cameras of 24mp+ utilizing the ZWO ASIair as a storage controller and interface should use the Plus vs the Mini since they most likely will be using V60-V90 UHSII flash sd cards or thumb drives capable of read/write speeds of 150mbs+. Users of the mini would be astrophotographers using DSLR/Mirrorless cameras not supported by either plus or mini such as FUJIFILM relying on camera internal memory cards. The mini probably has better wifi coverage and doesn't require modding how the plus model requires it. The last part of the mini excluding the ST4/RJ45 port would also be users who have a mount that will plug their guide scope camera into it directly or utilize the usb2 cable (all non "pro" grade guide cameras) and operate through the mini that way. Basically the ST4/RJ45 port is retired as it is old tech and even all wired ports soon as it will be bluetooth, wifi direct and nfc transfering of data getting rid of any cables.

I thought the same thing but after using it and getting used to using the USB for storage it’s not a major issue for me anymore. Clear skies
