U killing it Bro! I keep my Telecaster in open G...in honor of Mr Richard's! Das 😎 all! However, Dem rootsZzzzz are in the Delta Blues! Where it ALL began! Das 😎 cool! 🤔😉👍🏻❤😁
Dude. You say this lesson ain’t much but no. That’s a lot. You have the insight. The last year I’ve been working to overcome my fear of fingerstyle as someone who grew up playing with a pick. And loving blues and playing blues. But acoustic blues just doesn’t feel right with a pick and there’s so much you can’t do with a pick. I’ve been digging your videos a while and just noticed a callous formed on my right thumb. You keep teaching truth and I’ll keep picking it up. Hails.
Kill it Cam! Years ago, there were no lessons on R.L. and your grandad's guitar playing method on UA-cam. It's great to see so many folks nowadays carrying their legacy forward. MS Hill Country Blues has been more broadly discovered. Cheers!
Thank you bro! I'm from Russia and I love the blues, it's very cool that you are continuing the work of the great hill country blues musicians. Thanks to you, I can imitate their sound and improvise even more!🔥
1st I love what your doing. I just gotta ask if you can lower the camera to see the guitar and what your hands are doing please and thank you in advance.
allways a pleasure to ear you mister cam !! thanx !! you give some good teachin , and more there's something more , you're the smiley dude who play guitar like the wind !! gratz !! thnkss from froggies land !! xcuse my english !!
Awesome! I had an accident resulting in nerve damage in the ring finger and pinky of my fretting hand and can't play in standard. The other day I remember Keith Richards comment about open G: "all you need is 5 strings, 2 fingers and one asshole!" Like an epiphany, so now I'm so exited to start learning and playing around with it. Thanks for posting.
Not to my knowledge,I'm the youngest active Kimbrough, so I soaked up my grandfather's sauce and RL burnsides sauce as well being as I was born and raised around all of it
Aww man… the is SO boss! Been playing a long time in an obscure niche. If I told you what I was doing with the guitar all y’all would be like, dude yeah… that’s out there. Been learning the blues because I was born with a salt of the earth grandma from the delta in me. I am not black, but I am not really white. I am a mix of everywhere. I just don’t want to appropriate something that isn’t mine. Nonetheless, she gets on me if I don’t play for a while. She also tells me it ain’t right if I don’t move no matter how good it sounds. Hasn’t been long that I finally answered the call to the blues. It’s been about a year that I have been trying to get my hands in place to a point where I can relax into the zero space you talked about. Learned a few - a few - songs and recorded one. When I played it back I could hear my voice in it. Not my singing voice, but what my body wants to do with the instrument and the music. There was a groove that I wasn’t trying to do hidden in what I was aiming for. Completely blown out. If I heard someone else stumble into themselves like that I would be so fucking happy for them! And I am happy but mostly super humbled. Learning and practicing the fundamentals - alternating or droning thumb for example - is so important. But once the ability to really play beyond the lag of thought arrives what will be transmitted will be what the soul wants to communicate. Not so much what the mind wants to do. Does that make sense? I feel like the blues will tell me more about who and what I am musically in a way that flies under radar of the search and scan nature of the discursive mind. So, I come across your videos. Last night I wondered if droning delta blues might be where my home is. Have listened to RL Burnside and your grandfather for many years and was always intrigued but could never understand why it so thoroughly drew me in. Now this offering from you on open G. I have been playing this tuning for a long time, so I am familiar and comfortable in it. But WHOA!!! WHAAAAT??? RL played that in G?? And you are giving the lowdown with grace, humor and love? Sorry for the long comment, but thanks, Cam. Really. Thank you so much for putting this out. My heart is smiling big.
Thanks Cam. Please please please please please post more instructional videos on open G. Particularly on RL. This video was like a direct link to RL. I felt like I was having a lesson with RL himself. Again, please please please. Did I say please enough?
"There's a lot going on here, but it's not really a whole bunch." - Made me smile. For you it's not a whole bunch, yet to me there was a lot going on there :) Great video - makes me want to try open G. And I am old ... and have been playing since young. So wish me luck ;)
