I appreciate that you went off the beaten path. It's nice to a bit of the neighborhoods in the area. It paints a clearer picture of the place. I'm well acquainted with Woodland Blvd at this point so this new perspective is most refreshing. Thanks! 👍

The best thing about DeLand is "Steve's Downtown Music" I've been going there since the 80's when it was called "Side One"🤘\m/

Mike I just found your channel today, and can't thank you enough for your beautifully shot, clear and informative videos.
My mother is getting older & lives in Orlando.
I have to find a place to live within an hour's drive from her to be near enough when she needs me, but far enough from Clermont/Orlando area that I don't end up wanting to end it all:))
To go from Upstate NY in the Hudson Valley to Central Florida is, well, to put it gently; terrifying!
I live a very modest life up here in NY, but almost every town & home have character, wood floors & shutters.
Everything I see online so far are lifeless, flat stucco with cheap aluminum framed windows & worst of all; 16x16 square tiles in living rooms!
Anyway, I wish I could be closer to water, but of course she's smack in the middle where it's an hour & a half in either direction.
If by chance you know of any Central Florida towns that aren't just comprised of box stores along both sides of highway, that you've seen & enjoyed in your travels, please let me know!
For now I'm going to scour your channel to get a sense of any areas that might be close enough in distance, but if there's a hidden gem you've passed, I'd love to hear about it.🙌

I'd probably say take a look at the Mt. Dora, Eustis, and Tavares area. Those towns looked a little more interesting but weren't too far from Orlando.

@@MileageMikeTravels You are so kind to take the time to answer.
And I looked at Mt. Dora because of your video & found a beautiful vintage little house!
Of course I won't get it because I still have to dismantle my life up here in the next few months, but it gave me such hope to see something really great looking, that looked well cared for.
It's 835 east 8th avenue if you're curious to see what its looks like.
I'm actually frustrated because I know it won't be easy to find something like it again, but maybe!

Me and my gf are thinking of moving here next year, what do y’all think? Is it particularly fun or exciting? Looks safe and quiet and I like that it’s close to the shore. Just not sure if it’s a place with much going on

It’s close to Orlando so you don’t have to go far for entertainment. The city itself looked quiet though.

@@MileageMikeTravels Man, a 45 min drive though? Might just pay a little extra rent and live in Daytona

I live here, it's a nice friendly town, this is a college town so their are a few bars and restaurants downtown and the Athens Theatre has some great bands come there, the beach is only 25 miles east, 30 minutes drive, and New Smyrna is a cute little beach town to with quite a few bars and restaurants too. If you go west 45 mins to Mount Dora another fun little town with festivals and many restaurants and shops.

Florida is such a boring state - everything looks the same - no hills, no mountains - thanks though

The "downtown drive" would be Woodland Blvd passing Stetson University. You are on a bunch of back streets and offshoots. Boring (and deceptive).
