    Hi Matthew! I love your results! Thought you might want to know that the base glaze for Mayco’s Sea Salt is Alabaster. So there is not much difference anyway- Sea Salt results in a background of Alabaster with crystals that look like flecks of salt. And if you are going hotter then cone 5/6 they are going to look even more alike. That accounts for how similar they look, I think. 🙂

    I really enjoyed you kiln opening. Amazing work and glazing. I have just started to combine my studio glazes with commercial glazes. I’m a chicken when it comes to trying out strontium crystal magic BUT I blew the bundle (US dollars to CA ouch! lol!) and bought some Advancer shelves. I’m actually really excited. Thanks for sharing.🇨🇦

    • @MatthewKellyPottery

    Love these videos!! One thought, could you try holding the carved items steady in front of the camera for a moment without spinning them around right away? It's hard to appreciate the depth of color when it's in motion. But feel free to tell me to kick rocks ;)

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 роки тому

      Yes I should have. I’m still getting used to using the wide angle setting and I’m not sure how close to put the pots to the camera. Holding them steady is also a good idea or adding still shots into the video but I haven’t taken any yet.

    What cone to you glaze fire at? At our community college we fire reduction cone 6 and I'd love to use a few if the May co glazes. Beautiful results - thanks for sharing the unloading.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery

      I fire to cone 11. The Mayco glazes will definitely work at cone 6 also

  • @jasonkohlmeier6707
    @jasonkohlmeier6707 3 роки тому

    Nice video and there is no buzz. The red with the rutile blue is neat. Did you use Stephen hills strontium crystal magic (instead of your own on these? I have his cone 6 version and it works well kinda tricky. Seem to have a tad better results mixing the mayco light and dark flux with the copper red to produce similar to yours. On the ones with the rutile blue, it looked like your lining up the red and rutile instead of laying it. (Probably wrong but), interesting to know. Definitely a new idea for me to test here shortly.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 роки тому

      Steven Hill first formulated a high temp SCM that I use. Now he uses the mid range recipes. The rutile blue is dipped up to and slightly over the red but not overlapped as much as others that are layered. You are correct.

    Hi Matthew, why is the glaze always more spectacular on the inside of the mug than on the outside.? Sometimes outside is great but the inside is always more!!!!

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 роки тому

      That’s is so often the case with my pots... the atmosphere inside the piece can be different than the outside.

  • @FunkyPhish
    @FunkyPhish 2 роки тому

    Wow! Awesome results. IS the copper red by Mayco or something you make? And what about the crystal magic? Did you make that or is it commercial? Your kids do good work too!

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  2 роки тому

      The red I mix myself. Copper reds require a reduction atmosphere to turn red. The strontium crystal magic is publicly available. Steven Hill is the one who is most well known for that glaze.

    There is a software to fix audio… RX8 by a company called Izotope. They have 3 different versions but Elements version is normally about $29 but you may need a DAW software also to be able to use it. Just an FYI… the buzz wasn’t really loud enough to bother me.

    What is “___________ crystal magic” glaze ?

  • @kellydiver
    @kellydiver 3 роки тому

    I don’t really understand the excitement about the strontium crystal magic. It just looks like a brownish cream to me, but maybe the details of it don’t translate well to video?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 роки тому

      For me it’s definitely the details that the glaze causes when layered with other glazes. By itself its ugly and also if I use too much it can be bad
