That is the best answer ever and every parent needs to be ready to tell their child this. It would have made a difference for me. As a teen, I complained about my freckles and my mom, who had a very spicy sense of humor, put on her best Mae West voice and swagger and said, "Oh but honey, it's so fun to play Connect the Dots!" I never complained again and it really changed my opinion of my freckles!

I get peeved when derms say if you have oily skin, at least you'll have less wrinkles! Bc people with oily skin will have big pores and tend to have acne scars. Also, we can have dry skin despite being oily. I think I'd rather have dry skin.

Thank you for saying this! As an esthetician I get so annoyed by ALL other estheticians acting like its the products you're using making you oily.. im like NO its NOT. It is NOT your fault. Its genetics and hormones. I also hate when products claim to "balance" oil production.. just stop. No they don't. As a long time oily skin sufferer I've tried it all and those claims are just marketing tactics.

Ok. I kinda get what the doc is trying to tell us. It sounds like she’s saying we’re putting MORE emphasis on products & their effects on oil production & breakouts rather than what the larger emphasis should be on which is genetics, lifestyle, what we’re putting into our bodies or even what we don’t take out of our diets. She’s explaining how that will play a bigger role in helping oily skin over what we’re putting on top of our skin.

I wish I’d had a decent dermatologist when I was a teen in the 70’s and 80’s, and I struggled with awful acne/ oily skin. All the skin care treatments and recommendations were horribly drying/ irritating and I was told to avoid moisturizers as if it would make acne worse. Conventional “wisdom” of the day also convinced us that sun tanning would help acne 😱 so there I was, laying out in sun whenever I could 😣 I’m 57 now and only in the last 10 years have I come around to the importance of moisturizing. But the damage has been done 😟

Products absolutely make you oily. I agree they don’t change your own production of oil. However, the ingredients in the products can sit on top of your skin and make you “greasy” and shiny.
I’ve tried different face creams. Some leave a greasy film and don’t get completely absorbed. Others have dried out my skin. The best creams get absorbed and hydrate my skin.

@@lisahope6876 Hi! Sorry it took me three days to reply to you lol.
The birth control I’m on is Norethindrone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol combo. It’s the only one I’ve been on in a long time, and I’ve been taking it for about 8 or so months. I seem to have little to no upsetting or odd side effects since I started.
Perhaps it really is true then that the combined pill has a better overall standing for most people! I hope it does for you if you’re interested in trying this one :)

I used to think I had "combination skin" 😄 that was before watching your videos + visiting a dermatologist. Now I know I have very sensitive oily skin + Rosacea. But I still do not quite understand how to care for my skin, and make up of any kind does not seem to go on smoothly on my skin. I used to be so perplexed that under all the oil that my skin makes, once I wash it, there are still visible dry spots. 😮 I tried letting my skin stay oily and washing it only once a day - this does not work. I tried using a cream with dimethycone - does not work (dry spots stay dry, oily spots stay oily) I am currently trying using the 5% mandelic acid toner recommended by Dr. Dray before bed for a mild exfoliation. I follow with a CeraVe moisturizer. This actually seems to help a bit, i look a lot oilier in the morning, I hope it is because less oil gets trapped in pores, more of it actually comes out to the surface. my skin looks a bit more youthful in the mornings too - skin oil does help with this. But i still get super oily by 2-2:30pm, so wearing makeup to work is a disaster.

I kind of disagree, I know for sure that the minute I put powder on my face, such as mineral make up, my face starts pumping out oil. I realize it's something to do with dehydrating my skin and my skin overcompensating.

I am so oily!!! It’s beyond a nice healthy glow. It makes my makeup separate. It causes me to have horrible acne and larger pores 😩 I am on a prescribed retinol but it’s not helping a ton.

I have just been reading about Avemide 15 (tm) which is Ego's patented colloidal oat kernel extract (aka aveno sativa kernel extract). Their Azclear Soothing Gel, QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser and QV Face Rescue Gel all contain this ingredient. All the details and other ingredients are on azclearskin. I think they will be in my skincare haul today. 👱‍♀️❤

I have that coppertone sport clear sunscreen. I got it to see how it compares to the neutrogena hydro boost (which I use daily on my face)...the alcohol smell of the coppertone is OVERWHELMING. If I didn’t buy it specifically for my face, wouldn’t have been an issue. But my golly, it is so strong. Burns my eyes and nose.

Yes! That's what I do too. Tiny sips. I don't know why it works but my theory is that your diaphragm is distracted by the action of constant swallowing and forgets to spasm. lol

My mother in law freaks at the very thought of touching cotton. 😳 The chainsaw bubble machine...my son would probably love that...my daughters, because they have a brother, would probably love it too. 😂 There are a lot of products (foundations and primers mostly) that I feel make my skin appear oilier. I always assume the ingredients don’t mesh well with my skin care or sunscreen. 🤷🏻‍♀️
