I could never eat a crawdad. I used to have one for a pet! I kept it in a little fishbowl till my mom made me put it back in the river. I had it for several months. I miss that guy.
Hi, Joe! Thank you for all you do to make our lives better through your videos. I really appreciate you doing these tent/mud buggin vids. Oops! I forgot to ask what bait you’re using in this vid?
Hey Joe , I’ve noticed lots of dead evergreens in your videos the bore beetle must be very invasive. I was recently in Manitoba and I noticed the same destruction.
Just thought of something Joe. Your in luck. If you order a ford with the Tremor package I think that you can order the front winch on that. Chevy Zr2 and GMC AT4 are the equivalent .
Hello! Thanks for the video! I didn't understand what kind of lake it is, did you say lake Zachary? Unfortunately, I did not find such a thing. I also wanted to ask if you used different baits at once, a mix, for example, liver, garlic and fish?
Like the mudbuggin video but my question is what time of year do u start putting traps out? Also what do u look for 2 set the traps and what is the best bait u have used for them
Hi, Joe Love the videos been wondering my self how many traps are you allowed in Minnesota? I been wanting to do this being from the south I love Crawfish.
@@JoeandZachSurvival This is amazing news Thank you so much. By chance when is the season? I have looked at the DNR site but it's kind of hard to find things on that site. You rock man thank you for your time
Almost the same, they are a little different. The fat tends to be a little greenish vs the yellowish from down south. I have eaten many pounds of them from both Minnesota and from Louisiana. They are close.
It is legal but ONLY if you use them for bait in the same body of water you trapped them in. You can not bring them anywhere else to use them. They are invasive.
Could you go over the following? Is there a season when you can trap mudbugs? If not, why can't you catch them anytime that isn't winter? What is the size you keep? Can you keep any size?
You can use canned cat food, beef, pork, deer or chicken livers. When you catch and clean a fish, keepall the stuff you would discard and use that for bait. I have used bread. You can use beef spleen, chicken. Almost anything will catch them IF they are there to catch.
In Pennsylvania, the Rusties are invasive so you are required to kill all by regulation. In 7 years, I have only ever caught 1 native species crayfish.
beef, pork or chicken liver. canned cat food. beef spleen (beef melt). The best bait you can use is the stuff you throw away after cleaning your fish, the head and guts and skin etc but here in Minnesota you can only use that if you caught the fish in the same lake you are trapping the crayfish in.
They hide edges of rocks. You see them dart, backwards. that's a MN crayfish. Very small. No leeches on toes swimming since the 80's, another story! Ask the DNR why? Not a political statement. Brings me back to my boyhood.
I, unfortunately have lantern bugs this year. Lots and lots of lantern bugs.🤔I planted a garden and flowers and they are destroying everything. They are small now and it will be really bad once they mature. And they are here to stay until the first killing frost. All bugs are plentiful this summer in PA.
I only had one tick on me all year and that was early spring. Its just a tick, nothing to be worried about unless you get the bullseye bruising, then you need to go get checked out.
Ugh! You find your crawdad sweet spot and have to toss them back! Hopefully they're keepers the next time you toss traps, I'm wanting to see how you cook them up. : )
@@JoeandZachSurvival I live in Eveleth and Whenever I travel around I find myself trying to figure out your spot. I don’t know why but it’s kinda funny!
I sure enjoy your mudbuggin' videos. Thanks for sharing Joe, take care.
I'm excited to watch this one. Mudbuggin is what got me on to your channel maybe 7 years ago now!
What a great life! Minnesota is beautiful! Love all the tall trees and woods! I could spend the rest of my life there!
Glad to see you now use a riding mower at the tent
Good to see you mudbugging again. Always fun to see what you catch and how many…

Good trip to the tent, glad to see you still catching crayfish there.
That poplar tree is good fire for the fall. As it burns hot and quick. To take the chill out of the air in the morning
The weed of the forest...
always interesting at the tent and lakes, thank you
Mudbuggin looks fun

They are killing all the balsam trees. They seem to have slowed down a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
Here in michigan we call Them crawl dad's👍
At least your having fun Joe. 😅
In AZ, once you mud bugs you own. if you get caught dumping them back you're subject to being fined. Invasive species. Thanks for the video.
❤ TV's Cajun Cook Justin made a 😋 mean Mud Bug Pie 😋

Can you explain the mudbuggin food prep process?
I have a ton of videos on this channel in the "crayfish/crawfish" playlist that will show you everything you need to know.
Hi, Joe Love the videos been wondering my self how many traps are you allowed in Minnesota? I been wanting to do this being from the south I love Crawfish.
I do not think there is a limit on traps but you can only transport 25 pounds at a time unless you have a permit to catch and sell them.

Do the crayfish up here taste the same as in the southern US where they are regularly eaten?
Almost the same, they are a little different. The fat tends to be a little greenish vs the yellowish from down south. I have eaten many pounds of them from both Minnesota and from Louisiana. They are close.
Do your crayfish die off every year Joe? Just wondering.
No, they bury themselves underground for the winter.
Is it not legal in Minnesota to use those small crawfish for fishing?
It is legal but ONLY if you use them for bait in the same body of water you trapped them in. You can not bring them anywhere else to use them. They are invasive.
You turn the heat on at 60 degrees? That's shorts and short sleeve shirt weather.
Where in Minnesota are you catching the crawfish?
Quiz: In what year did Joe have to cut so many downed trees during hunting season, during a snow storm.
2017?

You got mud all over your nice white truck.
Christ he needs a step ladder to get in it anywhere lol
What bait do u use keep it up brother
What do you bait with i have tried jest about everything

Any other suggestions for bait?

Joe what else do u use the mug bugs for cooking wise just crab boil
Crawfish boil and then if you have some left you peel and freeze them for use in etouffee and things like that.
I'll stick to King Crab.

Lots of big ones also. I have been trapping them here for almost 15 years.

You tried your best to try to catch them can you walk next time you’re trying your best are you gonna go fission for the rest of the day?
Better luck next time Joe,maybe 2 or 3 weeks you can load up on some mudbugs!
Well Joe atleast you weren't skunked. Lol
Thanks Joe I hope you get more because you sure do put in the work! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Do you need a firewood gathering permit or could you have used the wood from the felled tree?
I could have if I wanted to spend the time cutting it all up.
Joe I don’t know about walking through that tall grass.. ticks galore here in Pa.

Perfect timing 🙂
Just wondering, how are the wood ticks ??
I found one on me this spring, thats it. Not a big deal, its just a wood tick.
Ugh! You find your crawdad sweet spot and have to toss them back! Hopefully they're keepers the next time you toss traps, I'm wanting to see how you cook them up. : )
Thats cool, did you get any crabs in there? or just crawfish.
Thanks for taking me along. Love your channel, love Minnesota.

How is the deer population looking?
Slim to none. Wolf eats well
I have no idea. It is not time to think about that yet, it is still summer.
Have u ever just but a trap right in at the tent off the dock
I have trapped the Tent lake and never caught any. None in that lake yet.
