Not sure if your foreign listeners know what "rooted" means in the local vernacular. It means "f@cked".
Same with UK slang Rogered.
@@BigTimeRushFan2112 Yes mate and while cottaging into the bargain LOL!!
"deeply rooted" could spurn a new model ute called the Nissan Rute?
Talking about Chinese cars, I bought a mg zst essence for 33990. In Feb 2023 for a my23 car. Build date was Oct 2022. Anyway fast forward to September 2024 and I decided to sell the car. Due to issues that just annoyed the crap out of me. Went to cars sales to list the car, they said it's worth between 23900 to 25100. So I listed it for 25100, got many low ball offers but managed to sell it for 24k, it had done 7100 km. So depreciation on a mg is absolutely horrendous. Booked a rav4 the next day. I know it's double the cost for rav4 cruiser. But I don't plan to sell it for 10 years minimum. So yeah Chinese cars... Depreciation.... Think it over before you buy a shiny play toy from MG. I'm sure this also relates to chery, gwm, haval, etc etc etc.
Most be due to price fighting and the flood of cheaper cars coming in last year etc.
Also the COVID hang over pricing for used cars is finally breaking
How could you not perceive this outcome before buying it in the first place? 🤦♂️
So $1.41 in depreciation per km + insurance + rego + servicing + electricity..
Because at the time I needed a car. Nothing was available in the market. Everything was a 6 month wait and second hand cars were asking a 30% premium. Lesson learnt. @@RICHOCHANGO
I am about to retire. in my youth, I worked in an AUSTRALIN car manufacturing industry. I worked for a 1000-employee non-OEM parts manufacturer. Building stuff for all the big boys. well big then. Ford, Toyota, Nissan, and Holden. We don't build "stuff" anymore. My stuff-building skills are leaving. The following workers can't do what my generation did. they don't have the stuff-building skills. I am unable to sell my successful business. There is no mini-me waiting to step up and take over. As I pack up and dispose of my Man Shed. Everyone asks "Where can I get my stuff fixed". So it is more than just added competition in our market. it's the skills to keep the market moving.
It’s a problem for making all sorts of stuff in OZ, manufacturing, building, ect. Shame but has been occurring over many years, and would take brave governments years to fix. Without these skills, future kids will be restricted to opening doors for rich tourists and say “welcome to Australia” or “would you like fries with that”😢
John, I am in Ohio USA and your new uploads are timed perfectly for me to watch while finishing off my wake up morning coffee. Thanks man, keep it up!

Nissan became deeply rooted when they switched there Automatic Transmission for CVT
And they quickly switched back to a torque converter transmission.
Oh and it is their not “there”.
The rot set in for NMA once the great Leon Daphne was replaced, and from there the real “wood rot” set in.
I think Nissan has been dead for years the last hope was the 1DX which got binned , and only the patrol that's worth a pinch of s%^$ left the rest are garbage cars . A real tragedy for such a great name in cars I'm a Datsun boy for life and I've given up them ever bringing out something affordable that is fun to drive ever again.
Nissan should of stuck with the diesel in the patrol
I was reading some interesting stuff about batteries. Lithium has tanked in value and mining, refining and battery building is stalling. Companies going out of business as the demand for EVs has not gone as projected. Not only that, as new models come on the market it is quite likely your old EV, when needing a battery, will find there is no supply. Quite simply there are no spares. When the battery is shot (on some models) you will find your car is now dead forever.
As long as the EVs can get to 100,000 miles over 15 years that's perfectly fine and equivalent to ICEs
@@kaya051285 a good ice car gets 300k though. UA-camrs have Volvo 850s from 1996 with 250k odd on it.😮
Just as well under Australian consumer law if a critical* part is no longer available the dealer has to give a 10 year pro-rata refund.
* critical parts are those that are necessary for the car to function, meet Australian Design Rules & original specifications. So at year 9, if a cup holder breaks & it’s not available - reach for the superglue. But if at year 9 a traction battery fails or a taillight is broken in a collision & an OEM spare isn’t available it’s pro-rata refund time.
@@markboscawen8330 Might not be so much fun if you live in SE Asia and you buy an 8 year old Chinese EV that is now out of production.
Cheap unreliable CCP cars?
Lol.. no thanks.
They're probably more reliable than American cars. And definitely more reliable than European cars
I have a Great Wall V240 trayback ute from 2019ish and brought new , used often as a work horse , done 160,000km and never missed a beat , so unless you have owned one stop with this , hell man I am old enough to remember the ' Jap Crap ' days of 1970's - 80's .
1. CPC ... Not CCP..
2. While no Chinese carmaker can so far be a Toyota or Lexus in the reliability stake. They are certainly giving a few European and 'Murican cars a run for reliability, while being way more affordable.
But, knowing the absolute simplistic nature of some people, I'm guessing you wouldn't have interest in the facts surrounding this.

@@schrenk-d For sure they give German cars a run for thier money. So much Germany put tarifs on them ... Otherwise getting a car with all the luxeries and better softwre, entertainment system and batteries for 50k top when a German cost nearly 100k to start.
VW's ID3 /Cupra's Born is a joke.
Also Volvo is a Chinese company now.
To be totally honest the two major shareholders of Mercedes are also Chinese.
So by Chinese cars from Stuttgart!! ..
Mercedes ... always been Blender (imposters). Just look up Borgward ... Mercedes weren't the first with air suspension, Borgward was ... in a cheap, affordable car.
I used to like Nissan. Even going back to the Datsun days. I have owned a few. The last one was a Navara. Biggest piece of shit I ever owned. Didn't have it that long. And neither did the guy that bought it off me. That put me off, haven't owned one since. My wife and I have Toyota's. But with all the useless crap on new vehicles these days I wouldn't buy any brand, even if I had the money. To replace my vehicles now I would have to hunt good condition, low mileage old cars. Even the seat belt warning and keys in the ignition chimes drive me nuts. Thankfully nothing on my old truck. I wouldn't even test drive any modern vehicle, just not interested.
Amen, I've just started stocking parts to be able to keep my old beater going, diffs, gearbox, and the like being put on the shelf. Even just the costs to repair modern vehicles are ridiculous, 8k to repair a transmission in a 5 year old Ranger, that's about a 3rd of the price they go for used
If all Chinese cars are as bad as the MG ZS I had the misfortune to drive a few weeks back, Nissan has nothing to worry about
Nissan's used to be great. I've had several Datsun 1200's, 120 Y's and they've been great. Just bought a 1995 Navara diesel Ute. It will last me for the rest of my life.
Greed screws all of these companies. Make them cheap and nasty and people will dump you. Don't they get it?!
You’re exactly right. Nissans are utter crap now.
@@Jed-yp8yg I've still got my 1200 and 180b reliable as ever!
Nissan = Absolute shit CVT Transmission, costing a fortune down the track.
Patrols and the new Pathfinder have a torque converter tranny , not a CVT. They quickly moved on from that.
Mate, I love your work. Thank you for taking the time in putting together these great reports.
In addition to the terrible product decisions, Nissan's engineering deficiencies (e.g. CVT transmissions!) have been a big factor in its decline over time. They seems to be better now... but ... is it too late?
Not to mention that the Leafs lack of cooling meant the batteries were f@cked fast.
The Nissan Stanza with George Fury at the wheel was my best recognition of Nissan at its best.
Certainly the original “ Godzilla” , the first Nissan Skyline GTR’s was also an absolute highlight in the Nissan evolutionary tree, but sadly that tree has been brutalised and turned into firewood and the stump that remains holds up the last Nissan Patrol, but the chances of that stump regrowing is a big fat fuck all , no chance.
Being the MD of Nissan Oceania is about the last post an executive would hold before drowning in the ocean itself or being cut down like the Nissan family tree!
“ Nissan will a soon be missin”, great lyrics for let’s say Bob Dylan to release one final nasal influenced song somewhat to the tune of “Blowing in the wind”
Why do i see John, dancing topless, on a float, being pulled by a Nissan Duke?

I suspect John has locked him attic, though.
Chinese EVs are a bit like Israeil Pagers and Walky Talkies... If you know what I mean.

OMG How Nissan has nose dived.I used to have a 120Y. A great little car in it's day
Great to hear you on Adelaide Radio this morning John. Was funny to hear the way David pronounced your last name.
Haha.. you have to have some unloose nuts and bolts to buy Chinese EVs!
Note how many American vehicles including Harley Davidson have Chinese made electronics. Worse it use to be Japanese with Mitsubishi switch gear and ignition. That was a massive quality improvement
Unloose? You mean tight?
I’d rather buy an older used car than a shitbox ev

90% of EV batteries today are made in China ,, scary yes .
IMHO the downfall of Honda is the efficient but woeful 1.5 Turbo that is in all of their non-electrified cars. Who wants that shit in a 1700kg CRV. I used to love Honda, they had an engine for any car, not now.
The old naturally aspirated VTEC engines were great, lacked a bit of torque but at least had some character and were reliable. Haven't heard much good about the 1.5 Turdbo. I've still got a 2013 Accord Euro Manual, excellent car and surprisingly efficient.
Customer care ? ,, Nail on the head brother .
My wife has a 2020 X-Trail from new that's a really good car , but we gave up on Nissan's service 7 or so years ago because they are totally shirt !! all they want to do is sell you shirt you don't want or need over and over and over again and I can imagine how many people get suckered into getting things done that don't need to be .
All about the MONEY ! not service .
I do all the servicing now in the driveway .
Point in question , front disc pads $97 from Nissan $300 to fit ,, $39 from Repco , fitted in our driveway in 30 minutes .
I bought a Tucson a few months back. I did look at the X-Trail. From across the lot. At a different dealer. Across the road.
Still said, "Nah, fuck that."
I drove a leaf for 2 day's, as a loan vehicle as my 24 year old car was waiting for a part from Shitsville, I wasn't impressed with the car ,basically couldn't give it back quick enough. My 24 year old Nissan is still far nicer car .

Next video: will Chinese upstarts kill OLIGHT
Nissan started its decline with its kiss of death merger will Renault to its level of irrelevancec it now has reached
It's disappointing to see what has happened to Nissan. They once gave us iconic models like the Skyline, Silvia, 300ZX, Figaro, and S-Cargo-cars that made motoring genuinely exciting and fun. Now, they’ve fallen into the trap of producing mundane SUVs and personality-devoid people transportation devices.
Legacy automakers are now rightfully facing the consequences of their own choices. For years, they've prioritized making profits through bigger and more expensive models, trying to squeeze more money out of consumers by pushing high-spec, high-cost vehicles instead of offering smaller, affordable, and practical cars in volume.
While I understand the need to cater to the market demand for high-riding SUVs, there’s surely an opportunity to explore other niches that could lead to a more sustainable business model. After all, there are only so many W@nkers with deep pockets willing to pay top dollar for over-specced SUVs and 4x4s.
If they let over 100 new Chinese brands there will be no other car makers left
I think we have enough China cars we don’t need anymore
Consider this mate.....I agree with you. China food the market with cars. The (mainly) unaware public buys them and established brands die. And as they die, manufacturing ability in the country of origin fades. Give it long enough and the ability of many countries to make something drops. But China can. And so you have it, China destroys the ability of other countries to make things. China is them in a very powerful and persuasive position. Think about how that works.
@@GordonW27I understand that’s actually happening in Europe to the major vehicle manufacturers, according to MGuy.
It’s really scary for the motoring future.
Should have just kept the Datsun name.
Not if the government follows America and bans all networking from the cars.
Normally i would say gov playing politics but Elon did brick that Chechyan's cyberstove top and when things are online, they can be made off line instantly.
Yes, but our grubberment would never do that to their mates from C.
Always loved the old KneeSan GU series
Those Chinese cars have been rushed into production with a lot of cost cutting in design and materials. Many will likely disintegrate on impact in a collision. Traditional OEM’s have rigorous testing to ensure safety, these Chinese upstarts do not. Flashy tech and new paint doesn’t mean it will hold up in adverse conditions, over time or in a collision. Just remember the Yugo of 1988. It was new and cheap, and would fall apart driving home from the dealer on day one at times.
The Nissan Juke ( although very popular here in UK) always look like they've been made out of the parts bin at Nissan to me.
Very odd looking car.
How is this a surprise since they don’t have product offerings in so many categories.
The world's worst CVT doesn't help much.
toyota supra v8 supercars will join the grid
It's funny how whenever the French get involved in car company it goes to complete SHIT! Nissan, Stelantis. Probably more I don't know about.
Volvo, with their PRV wet sleeve V6. Indian crap.
Will be driving my v8 till the last drop of oil
Watch their sales fall off a cliff next year when they release the new Y63 Patrol to our shores. Every second car around my area is a soccer mum driving a chonky V8 Y62 with an aftermarket 3" exhaust. Don't think that's going to have the same effect with a tinny V6.
Not a Juke....try a Junk
...Joke.
There are currently 3,000 Chinese made EV fires per year in China (80% of them while charging) and the number is rapidly growing. China has just banned them from underground car parks. I wont be parking anywhere near one if i can avoid it
Don't worry, they'll park near you.
And those numbers are probably way way underreported
@@xpusostomosI think the ban is so cars don’t get squashed when the building collapses.
What about the report where an entire charging station was shut down because of power restrictions - the grid can't cope.

Great, but this video is about Nissan 🤷♂️
I just wouldn't buy a toyota or a ford, only because everyone has one and that goes against everything I believe in
And what pray tell do you believe in?
I agree and will avoid Toyota tax and Fords lousy service.
I feel sick every time I see your thumbnail!
Cars are no longer mechanical transport machines. They are becoming an electronic device. And over time they will become a disposable electronic item.
This is on top of history repeating itself when the Japanese carmakers entered the Australian market. The Japanese automakers overcame real anti-Japanese sentiment lingering after WWII & the reputation for JapCrap by undercutting on price. And $$ talked so they gained market share. Then the Japanese car makers (led by Toyota) invested in building better looking products. Dramatically increasing the value proposition. Then they invested in making better quality cars. And the rest is history…
The Chinese are doing exactly the same thing. But on steroids. That cheap to quality evolution for the Japanese car makers took over 4 decades. China has done it in two. Now China is leap-frogging legacy auto makers with the trifecta of lower price, equal or better quality & advanced technology.
As John astutely alludes to, the concern isn’t on whether these Chinese car makers will still be here in a decade - it’s whether some legacy automakers will become tomorrow’s Leyland, Chrysler and Daihatsu. And ultimately if Toyota will emulate Holden.
Reassuring buyers that spare parts & service will be there for the life of the car isn’t hard. New entrants can include a third-party insurance policy that will payout a pro-rata ‘refund’ if the OEM/importer pulls up stumps in Australia & spare parts are no longer available. Completely overcomes the FUD of the OEM’s commitment to the Australian market when buying from a newcomer. Once that risk is removed, the average buyer is easily enticed by the Chinese automaker’s package of lower price & equal quality (value), & better technology.
Though the real long-term risk to all automakers is Personal Transport As A Service. Once autonomous automation is robust & trusted, PTAAS will kill volume manufacturing of myriad models. It will be cheaper to summon a robotaxi for every journey than to own a car. The hassle & cost of finding a parking spot - gone. Robotaxis will do to car sales what Spotify has done to CD sales. Car dealerships will be the next ‘Blockbuster Video’.
Sure, just like some still buy vinyl records for the tangible experience of ownership & nostalgia, some peeps will still buy cars. But those offerings will be from a small range of bespoke carmakers excited to sell a tenth of what they did in the ‘good ol days’.
That will occur in Melb and Syd first, due to the growing impracticality of owning a car. Those in the country will be owning their vehicles for decades to come. Self driving and all.

80% residual value of a Toyota Corolla after 5 years is crazy and terrible for used car buyers. I can get a 5 year old Corolla in NZ for $14,000 NZD. In the UK, cars tended to depreciate 33% in 3 years. I visited Sydney years ago and my 5 year old 14000 Pound BMW would cost $60,000 Australian or $45,000 in New Zealand. Beats me why used Aussie cars are so overpriced.
Had to stop listening - can't stand the American pronunciation "Nee-sahn" when us old Aussies have always called it "Niss'n" (rhymes with "listen).
unfortunately those new chinese brands will dominate AU car market in the coming decade
But it's not really unfortunate though. The more competition, the better. It's going to push legacy car makers to pick up their game and make better and more reliable cars for the consumers. So the consumer wins! Competition in the market is a great thing, don't let politicians with agendas tell you otherwise.

Croc EV apparently relishing the Kaifeng Kommie-subsidized EV, Uber-style car market undercutting. Won't it be grand knowing you can be dealt with Lebanese pager style in your daily?
One has to wonder if getting rid of import quotas was a sensible ideA
I thought it was a stupid decision for exactly this reason
Way too many brands and models competing for way too few sales to make any of them viable and the ultimate victim will b the buying public .
Not enough sales means no profits to run proper after sales service , support a dealer network and more importantly keep a reasonable inventory of spare parts
The ultimate end point of this will be throw away cars because every service will require parts to be shipped in from the over seas warehouse and the instant the warranty period expires then parts will be NLA
Low margins will of course mean cost cutting on the Australian models and the looser will be the customer stuck with a 2 year old $ 30,000 vehicle that can not be repaired that they still owe $ 22,000 on .
The whole Australian experiment with "free markets " had been a disaster that gets worse by the day
The government is still wedded to the idea that competition will increase productivity , improve product and drive down the costs so they can exit the only thing that actually does work, proper legislation that is strong & enforced without fear or favour .
Remember how the 12 new banking licenses was going to increase competition , increase efficiency , provide a wider range of banking products and lower the costs to customers ?
Well that worked really well didn't it and even a Royal Commission has not changed the plight of bank customers .
And how about opening up the telecommunications market what a boon that was, for the phone company shareholders , can any one understand their phone bill ?
Then competition in electricity retail that was going to slash the power bills and it probably will, some time around the 12th of Never .
And as for cars a we will get is the left overs & market failures from the US market as has been happening for decades , the new models get released on the East coast the roll across the US till the selling season ends in California and just before US tax times they will all get dumped onto Australia after a cheap & nasty right hand drive conversion in some 5th world country .
Just because we look like America and sound like America does not mean we are America so American market theory will not work to the benefit of any Australian other than those who wear the $ 75,000 suits into Melbourne board rooms .
I would be interested in more information on this idea of swappable batteries for vehicles, which is being done in China. It seems to have a lot of positives. Taxi fleets and rental car companies spring to mind as being particularly suited
May be when he went on and said that stuff about "Nissan's deep rooted and historic involvement in Australia" he meant to this?
Nissan produced military vehicles, including trucks, and was involved in the manufacture of aircraft engines. The company was known for its contributions to various military transport vehicles.
Not surprised its heading in this direction, considering Nissan's trade in value globally you'd have to be mad to buy one new. Good news for me who likes to buy cheap 4x4s and keep them alive with aftermarket parts on the cheap for another decade or so but bad news for the manufacturer who's only bail out might be Renault... the poor souls
The Yaris vs Aston hit a nerve with me. I had the choice between a Yaris hybrid and a DB9 for a while and the Yaris won most of the time because its easier to drop in and out of, has rear doors, doesn't need fuel everytime you drive it and is generally much easier to drive/park on our rubbish roads and small spaced car parks. It also doesn't attract the hate of people spitting on it or scratching it - working hard for something nice apparently makes you a pariah.
It wasn't a buying choice though because both were on the drive but it did make me think. I got a lot more use from that Yaris and lost a lot less selling it too.
Doesn't sound like a V12 though.
Had a D22 work ute years ago, the ute did everything I needed it to do. The only problems it ever gave me were caused by Nissan service departments.
Regardless of how good a product Nissan is selling now I wouldn’t touch one due to the poor customer service
Funny enough I’d take the Yaris but they don’t sell them here in the US any more.Probably cause they don’t make enough money on each one!
OMG did you mention Foton, surely that can’t do another re birth in to the market. I’m sure their logistics partner have some of those “shitboxes” still parked I in row 13 from 2019.
Maybe if Nissan hadn't dropped their quality through the floor and showed some kind of interest in product support they wouldn't have to worry so much.
If you have poor quality and someone turns up with other poor quality stuff but cheaper people will just go there instead.
Not really sure how selling car work, as volkswagen getting lost with ev, still they don't want to offer any vehicle here.
With business booming....how much cost to make a car actually
The vast majority of EV,s are made in China, including Tesla. I'd suggest there will be massive depreciation on any EV sold in Australia.
It’s a bit ironic for Nissan to be complaining about the plethora of Chineses cars coming into the Aus market … wasn’t the first of the Great Walls sold here a rebadged x-trail?
I am glad you referred to the Nissan Juke which is the ugliest cars ever made the only good thing about them at least when driving the Juke you don't have to look at it
Nissan used cars in my experience have always been terrible to service for the back yard mechanic. Unless the Nissan model has an X, it has poor used card value. X cars only hold value because they are collectible. All of them seem to have electrical problems all the time with accessories. The only decent Nissan is the Titan truck with the Cummins diesel and Nissan is discontinuing that this year.
I'm not a Maffmatission, those equations on your shirt look interesting....
I couldn't agree more the. Fact that jatco also set the prerequisites with its shit cvt transmissions and Mr gohan or whatever his name is sunk the brand further. If I was to make a good assumption, Nissan will be in under administration in the next 3 yrs.
Any update with the housing solar systems that you mentioned? I would like to speak with them after your recommendation of the company. Thank you.
Minute of Arc? Is that the Aussie equivalent of minute of angle John? Olight Magnetic red dot optic - genius.
Cheap chinese cars will kill juat about everything in Australia
Andrew must've stolen some bread too received deportation to Shitsville, 😢.ha ha.
An aquaintance had two Navaras , both are sitting in a paddock just out of warranty with fucked engines . No cooperation from Nissan despite full service history . I mean , JUST out of warranty ,104, 000 kms and 110,000kms or close too .
Seriously that's 2 fair trading claims right there, under consumer law a vehicle needs to be reasonably durable, that's usually deemed as 10 years or 160000klms, definitely fair trading.
I’ve not seriously considered Nissan for anything ever, their offering at their price points has never been competitive enough to sway me from the nearest neighbour
Back in the day, every man and his dog had a Datsun or Nissan, they were great value for money. My dad had 2, my brother in law had at least 2.
@@xpusostomos bluebirds were my childhood
My Dad was a master tech in the 60s to the 80s and saw the best batch of Japanese cars. He could service anything Datsun with his eyes closed. We had many Datsuns, Toyota's and Honda's. All were well made apart from some rusting in the earlier cars. I have a Mitsubishi and Dad has a K N backwards. He loves the Kia, but it's a bit gimmicky for me and beeps worse than the Mitsy
@@lesleypaterson1463 everything rusted then because no galvanizing
I knew Nissan were finished back when they released the Juke in the early 2010’s
MG is killing it, are their cheap cars any good, who knows.
Nissan haven't given a rats about the Australian market for years now so good riddance.
Foton imported by Croaky would be a very dangerous thing to spend your money on...
The Ruski love those Chinese cars. Cheap but every bit as good as the Eurotrash.
Nissan is "quite deeply rooted". I couldn't have said it better.
You talk about brand sales ability... but are they good cars?
Some cheap chyna subs going at the moment, sry one isn't!
Nissan, toyota, honda and mazda are all cooked.
6:34, missing Olight report link card.
Nissan speaks highly of you too.
Who wants a used EV? Or a new EV? Not me
Jeep just got too expensive I think
Nissan is just crap all around
