Worked at first, but the cats soon got used to it. No amount of tweaking the frequency had any effect. Would probably be more effective if you actually threw it at a cat!
A missing problem! Irrespective of what type of battery you use, these models, and such other outdoor battery charged items [ ie: garden lights] quickly go faulty due to the ingress of water around the battery compartment. It is common to then find the battery compartment and terminals badly rusted, which in turn ruins the connection forever. There is supposed to be a waterproof seal but often this is missing or never having had allowances made for one. There are a couple of ways to stop the rain entering. (1) as soon as you receive the unit, undo the four mini screws and remove the cover. Smear the inner and outer areas with Vaseline and at the same time dip the screws into the Vaseline and replace the cover. Smearing Vaseline on the screws also prevents them rusting tight in their fixings. (2) If Vaseline is not handy then cover the entire battery compartment area with a piece of Carpet Tape as this also prevents the ingress of water and the rusted in screws becoming irremovable. A third 'belt and braces' idea is to use both methods. Hope this is helpful, and I would like to point out that I am not a Vaseline Rep, not have I been paid to endorse this petroleum jelly product!!
I just bought a couple of similar products. I can hear the noise when I'm gardening. Hoping it will do the trick with cats 💩ing and 🤮ing in our garden 🤞🙏. Thank you for your video.
Rick Crammond Cats do become used to them, but moving them around from time to time helps( Repeller ) not cats lol.I have a neighbor with 5 cats that use my garden as a toilet because her garden is to overgrown for them to use. If only the owners would clean up after the little buggers.
These are brilliant, got one for front gravel drive as cats used it like a massive litter tray, works a treat, just got a second one for back garden because of foxes using flower beds for a loo....fingers crossed it works as good as front one
The elderly in particular use a cat-deterrent in their garden. It is a small apparatus with a speaker attached to it. It produces a high-pitched bleep of more than a 100 decibel. The sound is mostly only audible for children, youngsters and people with ears that are still good. Many cat-deterrents use the same noise as the Mosquito. The sound causes pain in the ears, headache, and ringing in the ears. If you have any complaints consult your GP and make mention of it on social media!
R. Jan Thank you for your input, however i'm not sure they "cause pain in the ears, headache, and ringing in the ears" I think they just make you uncomfortable if you can hear it. That's all it is supposed to to to cats to make them move on.
After battling for years over the neighbour's cats spraying at my back door, I went out and bought one of these. I fiddled with the settings for weeks on end but it had absolutely zero effect on them. A total waste of $65! A couple of weeks back I went and bought a different one (works on same principal) for $129. A total waste of $129! Neither of them work and I am out of pocket by $194 and seriously angry over these products. Whoever "thinks" that ultrasonic sound "scares" cats should get their head read - seriously. There are similar ones that connect to your garden hose and sprays water - I would think they would be much more effective but I cant use one outside my back door. What HAS worked for me is this: I got a movement sensing aerosol air freshener from the supermarket and retrofitted a fly-spray refill can to it (the natural herby type stuff). BINGO. Problem solved. When I get the time I will do some more retrofitting to make it come on at dusk (when those cat-pests come out).
Hi Mike. I am sorry to here that this cat scarer hasn't worked for you. All cats are not the same, what works for one may not work for another. That said other people who have trouble stopping cats with just one method find that using a combination of repellers work. For example using a sonic repeller with a scent based one. For more information about this click the link stopupest.com/how-to-keep-cats-out-of-garden-using-smell/. There are even some home made scents here.
The laws of diminishing return may govern the effectiveness of this product. In the beginning, it may be quite effective, then as the the wow factor wears off, and the cats begin to perceive this as a non-threat, it may not be as effective as a deterrence any longer.
Hi Phil with the greatest respect what research have you actually did you carried out no test or anything just gave the product a great rating with no evidence to back up any claims I have found this product completely useless the only thing it does do is annoy young people which it would be great for dispersing annoying youths outside your house as the Frequency can only be heard by young people I await your response I wish you all the best
Great review! Me and my Mum are sick of neighborhood cats ruining our garden but thanks to you're review we will definitely try the Ultrasonic repellent! Great video and keep up the good work! :)
Iv had a constant problem with cats for a year crapping all over my garden. Spent a fortune trying everything and made no difference so wasnt holding out much hope with these. But have to say iv had it a week so far and its been great. This is the longest the cats have stayed away. Long may it last 🙏
@@Xx-Luchia-xX was amazing for the first couple of weeks, all cats stayed away. But after that, garden was full of cat crap again. So I bought more of these to scatter around the garden hoping they wud stay away but no, wasn't the case. I wud recommend getting them though as even though I'm still getting loads of cat fouling, it's a bit less than wat was there before. Iv found if you keep changing the batteries regularly then the noise pitch is obviously louder so keeps them at bay a bit more
I have read your instructions but unfortunately they are not really helpful there are 2 knobs and there's no idea what you need to set both knobs too please can you expand on the information many thanks
+Guilio McEwan Get plastic screen wire which has about half inch squares and lay it down jut below the surface of your mulch in the garden. Cats will try to dig, but when they can't will go elsewhere.

Hi Nabha. This cat scarer is effective up to 7m. Place it within 7m of where the cats enter your garden or where they do their toilet. I hope this helps
Why, when you point out correctly that the instruction leaflet is rubbish, don’t you give some advice on how to set the two adjustment knobs to optimise the chances of effective performance.
Hi i am thinking about buying this one because my pet cats keep soiling my flower bed(Its a very small area). Which is 125inchs by 100. Can it just be set to protect a small area not the whole garden? and does it harm pet cats? Please help :(
AngelHeart Sorry for the late reply. You have to angle the cat repeller down towards the ground so it only covers a small area. This cat repeller doesn't harm any pets...It just makes them uncomfortable to be near.
Hello Phill I see the recommended setting for cats on this product is between 3-5 but do you know the actual frequency in KhZ that will be as I'm trying to find a cat scarer that won't scare Hedgehogs or any other wildlife for that matter.
The Murpower® Solar Ultrasonic and the Pestbye look almost exactly the same. In fact, I'm sure they use the same components. Is there any major difference between the two?
Hi, i got another question please. I was worrying if it is safe to make the PestBye Ultrasonic repeller in summer because of the batteries. Since batteries can explode in the sun when temperatures are high. Or the case protects them from heat? Thanks :)
+Phills Tips and Reviews not sure yet as the rain is so bad its keeping the cats away anyway today. I set it on number 4 and the left knob on full. What number do you find best for cats?

Hi there, i have a problem with neighbours cats in my front garden. I would really like a cat scarer with an on/off switch so i can turn it off when i take my dogs for a walk so they wont be affected when i walk through my garden. Does a scarer with this function exist or could i just turn the sensor down ?? Would be fantastic if they worked on remote control LOL !!! Thanks
+Skippy Mardon I've just checked this cat scarer and there does not appear to be a test button. However if you think the batteries have run down just recharge them.
Nine cats live next door, I cant leave my door or windows open I bought two of these deterants, I think there are 9 deaf cats next door, they even lay down next to them
Funny that, because my next door neighbour has these in his front garden and they do NOT effect the local cats - including mine - in any shape or form. Instead, they cause me sever headaches and prevent me from being in the front end of my home where the lounge is located and outside the front garden is so i can do work on my car. Even environmental health say that they're not actually proven to deter cats; so please explain that one...
I can only go off personal use and my ultrasonic cat repeller worked for me. If your neighbour has this make of ultrasonic ask him to adjust them so you can not hear them. The ultrasonic frequency can be set to a higher setting that you should not notice the sound.
Oh trust me I have many times on many occasions and he refuses to as he hates cats with a passion and the cats walk right past it with no response. They've given me migraines at times and even his neighbours beside him other than us have not got theirs back on which I think are even more powerful yet still do nothing. Sorry if I'm sounding shitty.
Most of the time it's on around the maximum which kills. I can easily hear it outside up the road by near enough 5/6 houses. I've turned them down and they've altered settings also but nothing ever changes. His now currently aren't working his other neighbour have them too and they're even worse. I struggle to be outside working on my car and sitting in my lounge doing work most times. There's nothing wrong with my hearing directly but there's nothing else we can really do.
Y'see I'm only 17 admittedly but the thing is there's times where my mum - who's 35 - can also hear them. I don't know what make they are and all I know is that they were apparently from Lidl according to the man's wife. But unfortunately the man is rather unwilling to bargain as his very stubborn and can get extremely rude very quickly as he's had a huge rant at my mum before.
I don't want to rope the wife into it. She's a lovely lady and she's going through a lot lately. We've tried reasoning and altering things but I feel he's just a loose cannon.
Hello Phill, thank you for helping Us with the info about the cat repellent, if you be nice and let us know the brand of the rechargeable batteries? Thank you.
billy payne Hi billy unfortunately not all cats are the same. Cat repellers can be a permanent solution for some cats or they may not work at all for others. If they stop working after a while add a different type of repeller to your garden for example one that works on smell. Usually the two working in conjunction should change their habbits.
+Phills Tips and Reviews Be very careful, some people can hear these tones as well and might get Tinnitus, you dont want people to have a buzzing or hissing sound for all their life?
I myself have tinnitus but not from this. as far as I know it was very loud noises which brought it on. Some people have commented and say they can hear it.... but like the cats they just find it annoying not deafening
Hi Talia, I don't think this will scare your pet rabbit, these sonic scarers are targeted at all pests that invade your property but I have not seen one that is aimed at rabbits. that said your rabbit should be able to hear the sound and may find it uncomfortable.
No luck at all with mine - the cats sit and play in front of it, glad of the 60 day guarantee - got my money back straight away & didn't have to return the product. A great company - shame about the product.
You forgot to mention that it reaches such high decibel levels that it's damaging your hearing and especially kids' hearing when they pass by. kids can hear these frequencies.
This product can cause pain to children. If you use it in or adjacent to public or somebody else's land you could be deemed to be causing noise nuisance.

Keep in mind that using this device is downright anti-social behaviour. There is no ultra-sound that no human can't hear and only cats can, that's marketing nonsense. Many people can hear it. It is extremely annoying. People will enter your garden and trash it to be rid of the annoying sound, and they will be right in doing that. It's the equivalent of blasting 160 decibels of music, people will take offense and eventually shut you down.
Worked at first, but the cats soon got used to it. No amount of tweaking the frequency had any effect. Would probably be more effective if you actually threw it at a cat!

+Phills Tips and Reviews Be very careful, some people can hear these tones as well and might get Tinnitus, you dont want people to have a buzzing or hissing sound for all their life?
I myself have tinnitus but not from this. as far as I know it was very loud noises which brought it on. Some people have commented and say they can hear it.... but like the cats they just find it annoying not deafening
thank you i thought what you said was good information. very happy. now i know about the regargable batterries.
Hi Phil, would you not be better with the solar version..Plus can it be set to scare birds?
They leak and the battery terminals rust, not great.
Excellent
Dont need a switch just put a bag over it ^^
To the point, no waffle 👍
Sounds like you just read reviews and didn't actually buy one and try it yourself
Will it scare my pet rabbits?
Hi Talia, I don't think this will scare your pet rabbit, these sonic scarers are targeted at all pests that invade your property but I have not seen one that is aimed at rabbits. that said your rabbit should be able to hear the sound and may find it uncomfortable.
YES, it will destroy your rabbits ears, their ears are sensitive to the exact frequencies 20,000 - 42,000 MHz that cat repellers transmit!
Leave the data alone please , my mate has on and it's good
Rubbish does not work despite having 2 set up near the blackbirds nest. Came down to find the nest on the floor - dont waste your money.
Just plant lilies in your garden
Cheers bud
Set up and demonstration would have been useful
No luck at all with mine - the cats sit and play in front of it, glad of the 60 day guarantee - got my money back straight away & didn't have to return the product. A great company - shame about the product.
I have cats of my own, but they are attracting strays. I'm going to scare my cats in the process, but it's like they say about omelets.
You forgot to mention that it reaches such high decibel levels that it's damaging your hearing and especially kids' hearing when they pass by. kids can hear these frequencies.
Battery compartment design is rubbish - four screws for which no screwdriver exists
'Quick set up' as a 'pro'? Do me a favour!
Batteries every two days, even 2800 ma eneloops, waste of money, conveniently, humans can’t hear the frequency!
