    Great video! Here are some related tips.
    SHELTER ENTRANCES:
    * The ramps work well, as shown, but there is a much easier way to place them. Be sure the square where you want the ramp to be is empty, and also the one behind it. Extend your ground-level foundation so that it has a piece *beside* the empty square that would be behind your "stairwell" ramp. Snap a ramp into that rearmost space, against the adjacent foundation, with its upward side facing where the shelter door will be. Its left or right side will snap to existing foundation with the ramp part rising 1/2 floor height. Now add a second ramp, pointed in the same direction, that has its uphill side ending right where your shelter door will be. It will snap easily to the first ramp, assuming no obstructions like steeply-sloping terrain or a tree stump. You're done, and the ramps are aligned flawlessly. You may want to consider leaving both ramps in place, because then your "stairwell" will appear to go all the way to ground level.
    * If you use the snapping technique I've just explained, you can (carefully) follow Final Render's excellent advice to place the door first and then add the ramp. Those ramp pieces are reasonably tolerant of a slight intersection with other objects. Place your door on its foundation and carefully align it right to the edge, then snap that second (higher) ramp into place.
    * The ramps are a good technique, but there is one problem: The oversized bounding box (collider) on foundation pieces mean characters can "levitate" or get stuck walking near the ramp. I do use this technique, because those ramps are well-behaved about merging partway into a cliff or steep hill, but there is another method. Build a regular concrete foundation in the space where Final Render puts the ramp, at ground level. Add a full-height wall that will be placed against the shelter door (some of the door frames work pretty well for this, or use a blank wall). On the left and right side of that foundation, build half-height brick or steel walls, then stack one of the triangle pieces on top of each of those with the higher end toward the shelter door. Snap a sloping roof onto that, and you've got a simple stairwell illusion that doesn't have the issues with nearby characters. The half-high opening at the back can be filled with another half-high wall piece, or you can snap another foundation there, put two triangle walls on its left and right sides, and finish with another sloping roof that ends at ground level.
    CONDUITS:
    * Inside Shelters, remember that the electrical connectors radiate power in a spherical radius -- even through the built-in room divisions. If it's ugly or inconvenient to get power into that upper corridor of the Atrium, outside the Overseer's Office (for example), just put your power connectors on the other side of that wall, in the Office room.
    * In the Vault Utility Room, it is possible to get one of the longest conduit sections to go through the fixed interior partition if you place it carefully, avoiding the need for a generator in that small antechamber. There is one spot slightly above the doorway, on each side of it, where Bethesda left a small gap in their colliders and you can sneak your straight conduit through there.
    * For placing conduits in surface CAMP, if you need to get power through a structure object and don't want to use the gigantic, ugly through-wall piece, there are several good options I can suggest:
    ** Build one of the conduit connectors on a sloping roof, carefully sneaking one of the snapping connection points slightly into the roof. Then, while still standing on the roof, you'll usually be able to snap another connector under the roof. Power is now through the sloping roof. With care, you can also just put a bare conduit through, no muss no fuss. Try the curved conduits if the straight ones aren't working for this.
    ** The curved conduits can sometimes be glitched through the corners of foundation pieces if you're patient enough. Or you may be able to build the conduit first and then snap the foundation around it.
    ** To penetrate a wall, build a door frame or window, put the conduit through it, then swap in-place for a blank wall. The game usually won't figure out that you have that conduit there.
    Again, thanks to Final Render for a fine video; you've earned my subscription.

    Good tips. But I have to say the best one for me was the conduit lighting. The fact that they don’t count for the 50 is fantastic. Can’t wait to go in and start working on that one.

    Another tip for you final render, that shelter hatch can be submerged inside foundations if you place it in the dirt, then the foundation in afterwards, it merges in nicely with whatever designed floors your camp has, or even any floor textures that happens to be in the area!

    If you hold down E while positioning items it gives more precise control. Scroll wheel will move items straight up and down, moving the mouse will move item straight forward/back or left/right without rotating. I personally also turn down mouse sensitivity all the way when trying to position things perfectly.

    Great vid! To expand on the idea with the custom signs, last week when building my shelters, I did the lit posters that have the wire frame on top. Reversed them to show their backs, put them against the wall, and then used the small letters plans to create custom messages for folks. It looks really nice that way, and the reversed side of those posters has a cool light blue texturing to them which works well with signage. Hope this little idea helps spark some things for you all, too!

    I watch allot of bushcraft survival video's on building shelters if you find yourself lost in the wilderness and at first i thought this was going to be one of those video's. But i also happen to play Fallout 76 as well so this was still a welcome video to watch, very informative.

    I noticed something you can still use the old glitch where items jump down to stack shelves, on the sides of the shelters you can do it kinda. I also noticed it worked with paintings but only for some items. I couldn't get it to work on a shelf but if you put an item close enough to a painting it thinks you are placing it on the on inside of the frame and then it pops back down with the item you wanted to go down jumping down. It worked at least for the train set but I'd have to check other items to see if it works on them. I couldn't get it to work with the wooden shelf though. Honestly it's more bothersome to do it the old way, the flame thrower is way quicker.

    Another great place to set the Atrium Door (The Midsized one) is inside the Red Rocket Garage up against the Side Door, This not only blocks that doorway but as the Atrium Door is able to be entered from either side, you can access the Shelter from either the inside of the Garage or from Outside the side door

    Ive got an even simpler version of the shelf glitch: Just place the thing on the top shelf and try and place other stuff in lower shelves. They stay on the shelf you place and if you want the top empty remove the top item after the others are placed. No flamethrower required, just a work around to the problem.

    The utility room door can be place in foundation pieces using the same technique as the resource extractor.

  • @larmyth
    @larmyth 2 роки тому

    You can also use pressure plates to move item down into other items. Requires you to stand on the plate with the item so not as much control with the flamethrower but still effective.
    Place item on the other item then place the set on a pressure plate allowing room for you but also setting off the plate, the plate will not actually be active. Stand on the plate to activate. Pick up and immediately place item without moving anything and the all other item will merge one small level lower.

    • @larmyth
      @larmyth 2 роки тому

      The plate method is tedious and if you mess up you have to start all over again. Very frustrating when dealing with multiple items.

    The first tip with using the concrete ramp looks great, but it's horrible. Foundation blocks have the effect of 'pushing' your character up the side when approaching it. So this option makes it impossible to use the first half of a square in front of the vault entrance. It will also prevent pathing for NPCs and scrap bots in your CAMP. So for looks, it's 10/10. For function, it's a pain in the you-know-what.
