jasmine diva I actually can't watch it again all the way through. It's just too powerful. I can do the soundtrack sometimes but man. To go through that entire show again? Ugh. My soul might not be able to take it. Ya know those shows that are just too good/emotional/powerful to watch more than once? Yeah, this is one of those for me.
Honestly like, getting the background of the two characters playing this song makes it infinitely better. This anime made me seriously rethink dropping my music major. Never went back to the major, but damn did this make me appreciate it so much more.
Every time I end up listening to this I just feel swept away. You can hear in both parts so clearly a feeling of pure joy. It's simply reveling in the love of music for no other reason than the music itself.
The animation on this anime is breathtaking, as a drummer myself, the drumming animations were so satisfying to watch because when Sentaro would hit the ride cymbal a scene later the cymbal would still be shaking and I love that little touch, and his stick movement was so realistic as well. Same thing goes for the piano, I somewhat play piano and to see the animation of the piano playing is also really satisfying, and the animation for the acoustic bass (the upright bass that good old pops plays), the Trumpet was the only thing a little bit off imo, but other than that all of this was amazingly animated.
More like a full breath of bromance, with a dash of fresh air, if you ask me. Just wish it had lasted forever...i need more bromances like this. Friends are for ever, unlike love affairs.
I remember encountering the strong bromance. I thought I was watching the wrong anime. I wish I could rewatch this for the first time again. I still get chills and cry at the same parts, but it'll never beat the first watch through.
@@ryanta48 syncopation is, if i remember correctly, emphasising and playing on the offbeats. Them pausing there is just incredible interaction between their improv.
The first time I watched this I was trying to hold my tears, but when the piano magically starts playing the first notes of "Someday My Prince Will Come" I just bursted into tears, not of sadness, of course, but because this scene was one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched. Plus the fact that I just love Bill Evans.
They named the last episode "All Blues," one of the tracks from Davis' Kind of Blue. Also, the tenth episode is "In a Sentimental Mood," composed by Ellington. They made subtle allusions to them.
This was my favorite manga/anime of all time, and I've watched a lot of good anime. But this was so much better than everything else. Just everything about this series was purely amazing, way beyond any other series.
If I had a dollar for every goddamn time either Ariana Grande or 7 Rings is mentioned, I would have enough money to commission a single, fully produced episode of any anime. Songs: My Favorite Things (from The Sound of Music, 1965) Someday My Prince Will Come (Bill Evans transcription?, 1960?) Moanin' (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, ~1958)
You mean to say, its amazing how a lovely, beautiful, and amazing animation can bring one to appreciate, and lead one to acquire a taste for such music.
I have just finished watching Kids on the Slope and I want to cry!!! I love the whole series, it is so warm in the feeling. I miss my friends, and it made me feel a longing for some friends that I never had. The array of the warm spectrum about love, friendship, family, and bromance... It gave me the same post feeling, the preoccupied feeling after watching the movie 5 centimeters per second. It has a lot of moral stories, about forgiveness, trust, having courage in life, and brotherly kindness. So good, very moving, and captivating.
I'm in awe at the following this show has. On the 23rd video of this playlist and all of the ost have 100k+ views. I didn't realize it was so popular... I wonder if people who don't usually watch anime have seen this?
Well... it's unlikely This anime is not very popular, not among those people who only watch overrated series' ( aka weebs, sorry ), hot-blooded young'uns, and moe art lovers but what can I say, it's nice, but not for many ( at least, more than half of the anime watchers )
+Tasdique Chowdhury What amazes me more is the fact that this show actually aired BEFORE the release of the movie Whiplash (the one with J.K. Simmons in it)
RandomGuy1994 actually, i just watched the trailer (you brought it to my attention). They're not the same at all! Maybe only like the jazz/youth part. But really, they're not! I'll tell you one thing though, The Hunger Games were a total ripoff of Battle Royale
Tasdique Chowdhury Well of course they're both very different stories, but both of them still very much focus on jazz and a drummer plays an important role in both of them, which is an interesting detail to have in common. Nonetheless please watch Whiplash, that movie is great. Just... don't mistake the movie for somekind of a tutorial in music. I've seen some idiots SOMEHOW making that presumption and in result ended up condemning the movie for it.
i already knew about jazz because i was in a jazz band, and it was really interesting to watch an anime that actually had jazz music as it's main focus. the soundtrack is great :)
theres like maybe an ova worth of content left in the manga after the last episode, but realistically just read the manga because its really really good if you got attached to the characters as I did.
After I listened to this I watched kids on the slope and it honestly was the best 6ish hours I’ve spent in a while it’s been on my to watch list for forever and I’m glad I got around to it.
This is Fantastic, Ive never watched the anime, but ive listened to the original songs before this. and oh boy, I was smiling the entire time. what a fantastic tribute to jazz.
I liked jazz before I saw this anime, but the way they used the music to connect the whole story and the elements of it, made me really like it. I'll remember this anime for a very long time
I would love to learn this for piano. I'm a somewhat recent anime viewer, having been watching anime for a couple of years now, and out of all the anime I've watched (including SAO, Shingeki no Kyojin, Log Horizon etc.), Sakamichi no Apollon has been by far the best. Thank you, Yoko Kanno.
The one thing I don't 'like' (although I don't dislike it) is the length: it's too short! A sequel would be nice, but I would really like to see a prequel! Then again, a good anime will leave you wanting more regardless of it's length.
i always love it and it gives me huge chills when sentaro and kaoru play together , its so beautiful how their relationship can sync together. i wish i lived a life like theirs.
I know Yoko Kanno produced this soundtrack. But does anybody know who the musicians were in the band that played? Does anyone know if it was the same musicians throughout the whole soundtrack? And did Kanno come up with this arrangement herself? And where can I get some of that raw talent? Jesus F**king Christ.
BRICKsauce Wow. LITERALLY Press Full Screen on the video. Its written in the bottom right corner. Takashi Matsunaga on piano and Shun Isiwaka on drums...
BRICKsauce If this helps you any, Kanno has her own band with whom she has produced multiple soundtracks called the Seatbelts. It's most likely them, but I'm not certain as I don't own the CD (which is why I'm listening to it here ^^)
It's amazing, every year I feel like hearing this again and every time I think it's getting better than before. I don't know how to explain it, but it's just... wOnDErfUL✨
love that they mentioned john coltrane in this anime. if this show was longer, i would have liked them to pay respects to other famous jazz players, like miles davis, duke ellington, thelonious monk, louis armstrong, benny goodman, buddy rich, etc.
I wish I could listen to this for the first time again
So true !!!
Same! This anime is a masterpiece that i wish i could rewatch for the first time
yesss the first time you saw, it really got different feels but i always got goosebumps even i saw it almost everyday
jasmine diva I actually can't watch it again all the way through. It's just too powerful. I can do the soundtrack sometimes but man. To go through that entire show again? Ugh. My soul might not be able to take it. Ya know those shows that are just too good/emotional/powerful to watch more than once? Yeah, this is one of those for me.
I balled my eyes at this while punching my fist in the air screaming "YES!!!"... When that Moanin beat drops.
My Favorite Things + Someday My Prince Will Come + Moanin' = Someday My Favorite Prince Will Moan
This is dumb af why did i write this and why it did y'all like this thing😂😂
You just won the internet
Congratulations, you've achieved comedy unironically
It's these top tier comments that always get me coming back
Did y'all rewatch this anime a month ago? Lol
The pianist and drummer here are the true seiyuus of Kaoru and Sentaro. These two's best lines of dialogue are spoken in music, not words.
+Hagane no Gijutsushi Watery eyes bro, be strong DANIEL be stroooong!! :'(
+Hagane no Gijutsushi God, man.. you went overboard. now I'm wasted because I've been thinking about your words too much
No! Their seiyuus are Kimura Ryohei and Hosoya Yoshimasa!
+adelina setiawan read the comment again and try to understand the meaning
+adelina setiawan kimura ryohei?? seriously? he didn't sound like kise at all hahahaha 😂
That transition from My Favorite Things to Someday My Prince Will Come is so dang powerful.
+phaZonJJ27 I always rewind to that part just so i can hear it
+xxxMittens (卿ミトン) sameeee it's too good!
and what about the "Moanin" transition at 2:13. It's PRICELESS.
it's that rising chord progression that builds so much excitement
that c major came out of nowhere
Goosebumps. If you haven't watched this anime yet and for some reason you're on this page, stop listening now and go watch the entire anime.
yes WATCH IT NOW!!!!!!!
me jus watch finish HAHA
Honestly like, getting the background of the two characters playing this song makes it infinitely better. This anime made me seriously rethink dropping my music major. Never went back to the major, but damn did this make me appreciate it so much more.
Ok 👍🏼 I will
i just watched the entire thing
thanks for the tears
Best bromance there ever was
+RandomGuy1994 You know it!
+Butter of Sorrow I'm sorry to be a party poope, but the best bromance goes to Simon and Kamina from Gurren Lagann
+joren bucks But they where actual brothers, not bros.
These guys are bros.
Henceforth, Kaoru and Sentaro are the best bromance.
+Benji Cake ..... they weren't actual brothers, and if they were, regardless its still a bromance
I agree 10/10
One of my favorite things is this song. The perfect blend of music, added with the emotional attachment from the show makes it simply perfect.
I love you.
Kor, like nux taku editor Kor?
It really is you, of all the places this comment section lol
Every time I end up listening to this I just feel swept away. You can hear in both parts so clearly a feeling of pure joy. It's simply reveling in the love of music for no other reason than the music itself.
The anime seems great with this soundtracks. I need to give it a watch soon
it is amazing, one of the best shows i have watched
The animation on this anime is breathtaking, as a drummer myself, the drumming animations were so satisfying to watch because when Sentaro would hit the ride cymbal a scene later the cymbal would still be shaking and I love that little touch, and his stick movement was so realistic as well. it seems they're using rotoscoping to animate the bunkasai scene
MAPPA's hidden gem
I like get anxious after listening to this so many times because I wish the anime had never ended...
Me too!
This anime was a breath of fresh air with a dash of bromance
More like a full breath of bromance, with a dash of fresh air, if you ask me. Just wish it had lasted forever...i need more bromances like this. Friends are for ever, unlike love affairs.
I remember encountering the strong bromance. I thought I was watching the wrong anime. I wish I could rewatch this for the first time again. I still get chills and cry at the same parts, but it'll never beat the first watch through.
Oh my god.... That moment when they stop playing for like 1 second...... 0:59
YES
Swen Zettler its called syncopation :)
ryanta48 no it’s not
And know that they do that without any kind of script. They simply speak with music.
@@ryanta48 syncopation is, if i remember correctly, emphasising and playing on the offbeats. Them pausing there is just incredible interaction between their improv.
1:44-1:50 Kaoru Nishimi figured out how to jazz!
The first time I watched this I was trying to hold my tears, but when the piano magically starts playing the first notes of "Someday My Prince Will Come" I just bursted into tears, not of sadness, of course, but because this scene was one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched. 映画見てから頭から離れなくてずっと聴いてる。ジャズって最高だね。

My Favorite Things: Someday My Prince Will Come Moanin'
Solus my favourite prince will someday come moanin’ things?
I listen to this song at least 3 times a day
Still doin' it ? :p
@Justin Yizhi Zheng nope, but I’m going to get back to it
After finishing this anime I felt like I've lost 3 friends.Well maybe I still do.
What a great, great anime!
That's how I felt after finishing Samurai Champloo. Maybe I should check this out.
Wish they would have included that part in the church in the soundtrack too. The organ sounded so beautiful.

素晴らしい!!
あの演奏シーンは鳥肌がたったもんな
damn, when Moanin came in that felt like a drop even though it ain't
One of THE best scenes in all the animes I've ever watched. Love this show and its wonderful music >.
this is beautiful. i need to watch this.
They named the last episode "All Blues," one of the tracks from Davis' Kind of Blue.
Also, the tenth episode is "In a Sentimental Mood," composed by Ellington.
They made subtle allusions to them.
What better way to sip a hot chocolate in a rainy day while listening to this song.
So many feels. 😭☺️😊 love this show so much

Songs:
My Favorite Things (from The Sound of Music, 1965)
Someday My Prince Will Come (Bill Evans transcription?, 1960?)
Moanin' (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, ~1958)
Love the miles sextet cover for someday my prince will come

It's crazy how jazz can bring you to love an anime.
favorite anime, hands down; would have been nice to have at least a second season
A sequel would be brilliant. Maybe even a prequel?
2nd Season would be very nice, but they ended off pretty good
***** the ending is brilliant the best ending in anime so far
theres like maybe an ova worth of content left in the manga after the last episode, but realistically just read the manga because its really really good if you got attached to the characters as I did.
Quesly1 Oh god, but the ending to the manga ;~;
このアニメでjazz好きになりました!!
After I listened to this I watched kids on the slope and it honestly was the best 6ish hours I’ve spent in a while
it’s been on my to watch list for forever and I’m glad I got around to it.
Never gets old
I remember hearing this the first time... It was one of the few magical moments in my life
One of very few times I'll admit crying to an anime. :')
This was so well done. Picked up the Blu-Ray just for this scene.
The scene were Kaoru and Sentarou were playing this gave me goosebumps...it's waaay beyond awesome!
I adore this.
i am two weeks away from dying horribly are you ded yet?
This is impeccably beautiful!!!
I normally listen to classic, but this is superb!
This is Fantastic, Ive never watched the anime, but ive listened to the original songs before this. and oh boy, I was smiling the entire time. what a fantastic tribute to jazz.
I just came back from watching the anime, im crying my eyes out cus of the ending. This anime will forever have a place in my heart
This scene literally gave me goosebumps! Man o man it was great!
I love this version of Someday My Prince so much... it's so up-beat you wonder how nobody thought about playing it like that.
that 1.00 mark.......suddenly everything is lifted up and flying away, such a beautiful transition part.
I liked jazz before I saw this anime, but the way they used the music to connect the whole story and the elements of it, made me really like it. I'll remember this anime for a very long time
One of the best scenes I have ever seen in an anime
もう何回再生したか...
Gimme that soulful jazz!
one of the best anime soundtracks i ever heard of
This, is one of my favorite things
definetely the climax was the last duet, was so sad to think they lost eachother for so loooong!!!
50% of 1.7 mil views on this video are probably us rewatching it
That last note gave me the chills!
And here I thought Dave Brubeck's version was the best I've heard....DAMN THIS NICE!!! Thanks for the upload Soponon!!!
I would love to learn this for piano. I'm a somewhat recent anime viewer, having been watching anime for a couple of years now, and out of all the anime I've watched (including SAO, Shingeki no Kyojin, Log Horizon etc.), Sakamichi no Apollon has been by far the best.

Then again, a good anime will leave you wanting more regardless of it's length.
Wolf's Rain is a good one to watch, in my opinion. Bring Tissues!
I love this anime and all their songs. I loved jazz before I watch this. It only makes me love it even more!
Perfección.
i always love it and it gives me huge chills when sentaro and kaoru play together , its so beautiful how their relationship can sync together. i wish i lived a life like theirs.
This OST is just amazing thank you for uploading it!
awesome scene!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FANTABULOUS.
I seriously can't get enough of this stuff. Why did the show have to end so fast? It was a masterpiece!
Me tooo psst ur an army too ? XD
Haha yes! Back when I posted this comment I was obvlivious to Kpop! Now I'm in so many fandoms, especially ARMY!
This was probably the greatest episode ever!!!!
I know Yoko Kanno produced this soundtrack. But does anybody know who the musicians were in the band that played? Does anyone know if it was the same musicians throughout the whole soundtrack? And did Kanno come up with this arrangement herself?

Look at the album cover. Literally right there.
Jordan Griffith Okay yeah that's half of it, but the other half?

Is it those people at the bottom right of the photo in the video here?
I like how I wait every couple months to hear this shit again so I never erase it outta my mind.
This anime is the best it express the love of jazz and fun makes me want to play an instrument
can't stop rewatching the scene!!! eye capturing and i love the music!!! woohooooTTTTTT JaZZ ROCKS!!

Animenya juga bagus! Tonton deh
when i listen to them, somehow i feel relieved and free.
It's amazing, every year I feel like hearing this again and every time I think it's getting better than before. I don't know how to explain it, but it's just... wOnDErfUL✨
Juste fantastique !
This is a masterpiece of humanity, or even beyond!
love that they mentioned john coltrane in this anime. if this show was longer, i would have liked them to pay respects to other famous jazz players, like miles davis, duke ellington, thelonious monk, louis armstrong, benny goodman, buddy rich, etc.
