    "Don't worry guys, it's just Alpha"
    "I'm sure that's just a Beta thing and it will get fixed soon!"
    "It's just pre-patch, I'm confident it won't matter when the expansion is released"
    "They will fix it in 8.1, don't worry!"

    Everything in BfA feels like it's been done by accounting ledgers rather than any sort of game designer. "Well we need new azerite traits, let's just make them all basically passive and autonomous until we have say 30 for each spec". "Well we promised this Island expedition mechanic, let's just use generic AI, generic enemies and a random event generator. Apply all variables to all islands so they all feel the same. "What about warfronts?" "Well, we have an AI that can use attack move, we can spawn, so just tie some objectives loosely together. We'll put them on a months rotation, that'll keep them fresh".

    • @joshyman221
      @joshyman221 6 років тому

      I kind of agree; but you're exaggerating a lot. The enemies in islands are not generic by any means, and for a game like wow they are pretty impressive.

      I kinda feel like getting the required content done should be quick and then doing more is optional. We should want to do that additional content because the content itself is fun. The problem is that it feels like we need to be in the game grinding every day to get everything done. There aren't even any *interesting* rewards at the end. That's just to avoid falling behind.

    • @Ben-vb2us

      I agree completely with the statement... WoD at least had a spot where you knew you were done for the day / week / whatever. I personally don't give a shit about helping baby turtles or healing Azeroth the 50th time or killing a random mini-boss, but Lord have mercy if you don't get those daily emissaries done, since there's shit reputation without them and you can't see the main story without reputation

    I remember when Blizzard pushed back every game's release date and waited until it was finished. The extra wait time was annoying, but was totally worth it once you finally got your hands on the new, polished game.

    • @tweazledo
      @tweazledo 6 років тому +3

      Agreed. At least when we got it, it was worth the wait. BfA has been an embarrassment and if some people of the dev team haven't been fired, they should be. Sadly, any attempt to highlight issues on the forums for example, gets the poster instantly flamed and usually results in thread locking. Blizzard blues post pathetic canned responses and the most insincere apologies, yet do nothing. There was a time when you reported an issue in-game, you would have a GM get in touch, go over it and let you know if it was being dealt with. Now if you submit a bug report or any issue, you never, ever get any indication they have even received it. If I treated my customers like this, I would - rightly so - not have them for long. Yes, it is nothing more than misguided loyalty/nostalgia that keeps people playing, even that has it's limits though.

  • @FlesHBoX
    @FlesHBoX 6 років тому +91

    You hit the nail on the head man... WoW is no longer being developed to be fun and engaging. It's not the flagship game anymore, so it doesn't get the time or talent it used to. The best devs and programmers have all either moved to other projects or left the company entirely, only to be replaced by a B Team of people who seemingly have no idea what the game is even about, what made it special or fun for people to play. There is no drive at Blizzard anymore to make WoW fun and engaging, rather just to keep it as profitable as possible for as little money as possible.
    Trust me, I know how it works in the software industry. The flagship gets all the money and the other products get shat on. They get the apathetic devs and programmers who "just need to pay the bills". The bugs get filed, and then someone with one eye on the bug report and the other on the budget report ticks the "Defer to Z" checkbox meaning they have no intention of ever fixing it because "It will cost more to fix than the analysts project it will result in lost subs".... I walked away from that job into more than a year of unemployment because it is so soul destroying to be a part of.
    This kind of mentality works okay in a low competition, high training cost arena where a company will stick it out rather than spend the half a million dollars on retraining their entire company, but video games is a high competition, low entry level industry where a better option is literally just a click away, and the only thing keeping a lot of players around is a misguided sense of loyalty to friends they have spent potentially years playing with.
    Like, okay, we have world quests, none of them are fun, but there are enough terrible ones that when people get to do a fast memory game instead of a buggy, annoying "a turtle made it to the water" type, they *think* it's good, even though it's really just a not annoying, broken pile of garbage. I would so love to someone at Blizzard say "hey, what if we made a world quest that people are excited for? One that people post asking "when is the next time "super fun wq" is going to be up? It's been DAYS!"
    Look at the attention to detail that goes into making a game like overwatch enjoyable. It'll make you weep knowing that WoW used to get that kind of treatment from Blizzard.

      As an Overwatch player I can tell you that Overwatch gets worse updates than wow. Literally the only thing that ever happen are like 2-3 heroes a year, 3-4 maps a year, and like 8 balancing patches based off Overwatch League. Which is a style of overwatch that is very different than matchmaking. The same sentiments in this video are all over the overwatch community.

    My group of RL friends have already abandoned the game. These guys are usually hopelessly addicted and play nonstop, even during content droughts. We've all been playing since vanilla together and have played every expac. It's bizarre for me to see things like "offline for 12 days" on my friends list three weeks into a new expac. Really disappointed, because I have nobody to play with now and I'll probably unsub too.

But if i have to slog through all this boring shit in order to raid efficiently (i.e. AP farm) then no, i dont think ill be doing it much longer.

I saw the writing on the wall and yet my friends who I linked preaches beta vids too about the problems were calling me the doomsayer. Now they're pissing and moaning about blatantly obvious bugs.
      100% agree with Preach. Blizzard now is not the company that it once was. All the past glory they were once able to rely on is now gone. Treat them like any other company and see the epic levels of BS they're doing.

      It's kinda sad. In fact, I think most people who play this game now only play it because of nostalgia and how it's been a part of their gaming life for so long. It's very rare to get newcomers to WoW now. The game is really dated and just not that great anymore. I think I may finally be done, except I may give Vanilla servers a try just for nostalgia sake, but I know that won't last more than 5-6 months for me.

    As someone who doesn't do much in terms of levelling Alts, I'm just like, out of stuff to do. In Legion I felt like I was working towards the next patch or was working on upgrading my weapon, I always felt like I was moving forward. Now it's like... I guess I can keep going for Rep, but I don't want to just farm every quest every day so that's just something that's slowly going up without me thinking about it.
    I'm so done with Azerite armour I just equip whatever's highest item level, I'm so sick of simming myself just to see that my 30 ilvl higher drop is actually a downgrade because the trait is shit I'm just done paying attention to what gear I'm getting. I thought Blizz had said they wanted gear to be fun again, but it's so conveluted I just can't be assed to care, I'm not a Mythic raider and I know my class, I get by with whatever shit I have equipped.
    Island Expaditions are probably fun on PvP but I've capped the bar 3 weeks in a row and don't want to touch them again. I did the Warfront, it was cool, but I don't really think it's something I'm gonna be sitting there like, waiting for next month so I can get back into it. I've done it once, I'm good. I'd be pissed if I was Alliance, waiting 3 weeks for the big reveal just to find out you've got another 2-3 weeks to wait? That's 2 months of sub time you have to pay for on top of the Xpac price before you get a main piece of non-raid content, and it's not even that great. I've ran some Mythic dungeons, they're pretty good, but I like my WoW with more variety than just farming dungeons week in week out...
    So yea, once my sub expires in a couple weeks I'll probably sit the Xpac out until there's something worth returning for in a major patch. Which really sucks, because I was enjoying Legion and was so excited to see what the future held, and now it's like... WQs and dungeons on farm, hurray.

    By far the buggiest expansion yet and god damn it gets so frustrating at times, it feels like they released the expansion months before it was actually ready. dungeons like tol dagor have given me tons of issues in mythic plus by packs of mobs somehow getting pulled from other rooms as well as bosses such as one from waycrest manor pulling crap from the courtyard. On top of that everything just feels slower and laggier, my game always has a slight freeze whenever I open up my professions and my game just feels slower loading up my characters whereas this has never once been an issue before. and i know for a fact that my computer can handle much more than wow. My biggest issue is the loot distribution though, its way too rng. we spent the first 3 weeks grinding out mythic dungeons only for everyone to easily get 340 gear from killing rares if there lucky enough. and the azerite traits make it even worse since now I need to collect extra gear to even viably play a different spec on my class. I honestly would rather have the legion legendary system over this (and i hated the legion legendaries) since this is so much worse in my opinion.

    World Design: A+ (Amazing)
    World Quests: C (Okay. Nothing special)
    Dungeons: A (Pretty good!)
    Raid: B (First 3 bosses feel kinda flat but otherwise good)
    Island Expeditions: F (Boring. You try to trick yourself into doing them in the background to keep your hands occupied while talking to friends.)
    War Fronts: B (Needs more engagement for turn-ins and possibly an overlay to keep people involved with what their team are doing but otherwise promising)
    Gear & Associated Systems: F- (Literally so bad and unrewarding that, if Uldir didn't show promise, I'd probably cut back my WoW play to 1 day a week or less. It feels like you have to play at least twice as much as Legion for less than half the rewards.)

      Everyone keeps saying how good the story is, but I just felt, at least Horde side, it was very bland and predictable. Plus having to sift through Troll talk for 10-15 hours was pretty painful. Going from defeating the Burning Legion to this silly war makes no sense and feels very forced.The story is a C+ at best. Maybe a B if Alliance story is better than Horde, but that I don't know. The F- cracked me up though.

      Yeah just another thing sitting in the trash pile that is this expansion. I had this somewhat mitigated by playing fury with us getting haste while enraged but we still have our main cooldowns still on the gcd and that will never feel good. Then playing anything else that doesn't have built in haste just feels even worse. It's like you have to stack that on every class to make it feel average to play. Bad times.

      Depends on your class/spec but it also doesnt make sense to have 6 abilities macro'd together on 1 GCD or 0 GCD. Things that truly shouldnt be on a GCD like firemage "fireblast" are still off GCD because the rotation depends on it. I cant speak for all specs but I understand the general idea Blizz was trying. You need to be more specific than "omfg GCD changeS".

    I still remember sitting down and watching Blizzcon, with a huge smile after the announcement of Classic WoW. Then the announcement that the meaningless faction war was a thing, and immediately my thought was "Oh God, filler expansion incoming."
    My dread tapered off a bit when I saw the first trailers. Wow, Zandalar and Kul'Tiras look awesome! Allied Races? The sub races we heard about and asked for! Warfronts and Island Expeditions? Wow, what are those? Finally, a new battleground, and I fucking hate PvP! War Mode! Finally a fix to the folks who want to go to these realms that their friends are on but couldn't be arsed to world pvp.
    Then as Ion rambled on stage for what seemed like forever, there was a massive eyebrow raised. Why the hell is he being so vague? Surely I'm just being paranoid, right? Are Island Expeditions going to be some massive deal or just a boring slog? Why does Azerite Armor sound like an atrocious follow up to Artifact Weapons? How are the traits going to be gated? Warfronts don't even have a PvP option?
    I finished watching the BfA feeling massive amounts of dread that once I was done leveling and experiencing the zones, that there was going to be a huge problem as far as interesting content.
    At this point, if you don't PvP hardcore (and believe me, this expansion is probably the only way I would even have considered using something like War Mode to spice up my World Questing), this expansion is going to be a colossal failure for anyone who isn't suckered in by cosmetic shit like allied races. Even the warfront armor they showed off, that looked so unbelievably badass in concept, looks generic as fuck in-game. To this day, Blizzard is incapable of making a good-looking cloak.
    I disagree with your sentiment about the Allied Race being a carrot worth hyping for at this Blizzcon. Much as I'd love seeing the horde suddenly infested with these adorable little foxes, I think people have begun to realize the massive time sink these things are altogether. A time sink to unlock them. A time sink to level them if Heritage armor is your thing.
    They need to do something HUGELY bigger than that. Whether it's a massive overhaul of all of these expansion features that haven't worked, or just cutting the cord early like they did to WoD and start working on the next, meaningful expansion that isn't a fucking beta on retail release.
    Blizzcon is going to need to reveal Classic WoW for a release at Summer 2019 at the absolute latest, just to make up for the sheer radio silence we have had. I have never experienced Vanilla, and that at least has me curious enough to give it a shot. BfA though, has been a huge spike through my interest in WoW moving forward. Either change the foundations of this unfinished expansion or flip the table and start fresh (as I suspect they will do). It's well known that Legion was being focused on as early as Blackrock Foundry in WoD. That's where all of Blizzard's resources went to. That's how quickly they shifted gears and stopped putting resources into an expansion that they were creatively bankrupt for, much as they are with BfA. Are they already at work on 9.0? Not sure, but if BfA continues on this lukewarm stretch, I think it's a safe bet.
    I was willing to forgive WoD because Legion was so unbelievably good, and honestly it had another six months in the tank to polish BfA.
    BfA, even if the next expansion is Legion-levels of good, I doubt I can forgive. They have pulled this on us twice now. And it may be good advice moving forward to avoid the odd-numbered expansions. So far the seventh has been lukewarm. The fifth was completely abandoned. And the third, despite t11 and t12 (Heroic Ragnaros especially) being so damn good, is what started the descent of the game in the first place.

    When I decided that I wasn't going to buy BFA, I was thinking that I might end up giving in towards the release date and buy it. I'm glad that I didn't in the end and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel this time round not playing the new WoW expansion at launch. So far, I can't say that I have any regrets. The game didn't interest me this time and the content doesn't look that appealing to me. You tried Preacher. I took everything you said as a possible warning that this was how it was going to go down, and you were right. I get gear that's +15 ilvl from the dungeon gear I'm wearing, and not only do I have to wait 2 months to unlock the traits, but the traits suck anyways (stop in the middle of a boss fight to stand in a puddle, or stop in the middle of a boss fight to collect a ball). The dungeon gear I'm wearing now, despite having a lower ilvl, give me awesome stats that, when they have a "chance" (10% chance? 20% chance? No idea) to proc, they increase my DPS and I'm killing mobs easier than I was. Not to mention I have more rings unlocked. So what do I do? Do I equip the higher ilvl and gimp myself in order to join raids and pugs or do I keep myself at a lower ilvl but with better traits, stats, and DPS? It's come to the point now where I'm dreading getting a higher ilvl piece because it feels like I'm getting punished. I wish I could get gear BEFORE I level my neck each week, but sadly this is not the case. I just feel like I"m always going to be chasing after something that's never going to be obtainable, and then I get a higher ilvl item and suddenly I have to decide stats vs. stats., traits vs. traits, when those traits get unlocked, and if it's worth risking me getting a better piece to set the carrot back even further next week. I have too much Real Life problems to have to worry about all this.
    I also don't understand how the main feature and selling point of this expansion--- The Battle for Azeroth.....is something we can only do once a month. WTF? A blue post on the US realms replied that "after a few days, it would be the other faction's turn", but this is not the case as it takes 3 weeks. On top of that, many are concerned about the imbalance of Warmode now that the horde are able to do the warfront (which just opened on horde-side US realms 9/9) and are able to get 340 ilvl gear like cakewalk, then to add icing to the cake, mythic raids unlock this tuesday, which gives the horde a double-goodie. Why couldn't both sides have this event (seperate phases if need be) at the same time? Why couldn't this be a weekly event instead of once a month? Anyways, sorry for venting :/

    Honestly I feel the lack of a level 115 (or 120, doesn't matter) talent point is also a pretty big tipping point. Some specs are missing really important things from Legion. Imagine if Windwalkers had Strike of the Windlord, The Emperor's Capacitor and Drinking Horn Cover as options for a level 120 talent. You'd still be losing something between Legion and BFA but at least you would get an option. Azerite traits completely failed at filling these gaps, unfortunately.

      Honestly, I'm afraid for the game's future, considering this massive power creep.

    I was pretty excited for the expansion at first and I signed up for a 6 month sub thinking there was gonna be tons of stuff to do and it would only get better. This may be the first Xpac that I regret getting a sub that lasts that long. If Blizz is not willing to put out quality content its just a waste of money. It's pretty pathetic compared to what Blizzard can really do. If feel that they pulled out all the stops for Legion since WoD was a flop and now they seemed to have lagged behind again, arguably worse. Just force people to grind forever and waste time for little reward. Why do that when there are plenty of other games out there that take far less time and give a better experience (at least non MMO's)? Blizzard you need to get your heads out of your ass! Allied races aren't going to save your game, they may buy you a little time but if Allied races are the main course of this upcoming Blizzcon I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people just walk out, unsub, and give Blizz the middle finger for just trying to squeeze cash out of people.

    BFA is by far the worst expansion in every aspect aside from the opening raid (probably the first opening raid I've actually enjoyed). The worst part is the community is half the reason for it, people praised 'world quests' cause they were 'unique' when all they were was more annoying dailies and now they are becoming painfully aware of how bad they actually are. People praised 'artifacts' as a good progression system and now we have the heart of azeroth. People liked the titanforging system so now we have RNG in absolutely everything, they even lifted the cap on the 3rd week instead of on mythic launch like last time. The community is the reason for the garbage content and general expansion, high-end players warned them over and over and over but they didn't listen and now the casuals are crying about everything on reddit. The bugs are just obvious embarrassing levels of bad work on Blizzard's part. I think for the first time EVER I genuinely think this game is dying, because I think Blizzard just doesn't want to support it anymore.

    M+ and raider here, expectation (rewarded for pushing keys, farm the rep for useful things, have all the rep be attainable, islands to be fun, engaging and worthwhile). Reality (gated at 5 keys hoping for TF's that have a lower chance this epax causing annoyance rather than progress for reward, Rep rewards being useless to farm passed a point, working towards the majority of the items being recipes for items that are already outdated and falling very far behind on the Turtle rep because there are only so many turtles you can save[make more than 3 mini games the pairs one is not bad as a repeatable quest, the turtles to water gets old so quickly and I am glad they hot fixed the maze to be faster], having to grind 20 straight hours of islands(apparently the most efficient/only repeatable method) for my next AP level.
    As Preach said the raid is fun and will hold people over for awhile and unlocking gear to M+ up to 10 will be nice next week so people will move their bench mark higher but what a kick in the gut when on Tuesday Alliance get a quest for a 370 warfront cache know they are probably going to have to wait 3-4 weeks to hand it in. Respect to 2 different groups who have already timed a 15 this week showing that its not a hard week for keys and proving the content is probably not tuned correctly, give it a few resets and people will be pushing 20's real soon.

    Not sure if you're aware of this since you don't tend to mention economics in your videos, but a little tidbit I can share with you since BfA was that before the expansions launch wow tokens were about 300k each, a typical price that close to an expansion launch. When i checked yesterday (9/9/2018 if anyone wants to be specific) it had dropped to 170k. I don't recall it ever dropping to that price in the entirety of legion, even during the content drought. It seems people are abandoning BfA in droves.

    • @saynay302
      @saynay302 6 років тому +6

      That might not be lack of demand for tokens so much as a high demand for gold (and therefor high supply of tokens). With flasks, and food, and enchants costing crazy amounts, many people may be trying to buy gold through tokens. Or both higher supply and lower demand.

    • @LordFakeGodz

      The amount of gold sink in BFA is pretty intense, and the Mission Table doesn't give much gold anymore.
      The fact that wow token price is decreasing, that mean people are BUYING wow token with REAL LIFE money. With how fast the price is decreasing, that mean a lot of people are buying wow token with RL money. While people are not buying WoW Token with gold because they needed the gold for gold sink in the game.

      Actually the gold sink in BfA is pretty terrible, at best you could say it's front loaded. Remember, crafted items are either about 300 ilvl or are BoP. These used to contribute a massive amount of gold sink to an expansion and it's stripped away in BfA. Beyond that, what are the gold sinks? Some pets nobody bothers with and the significant one is a 5 million gold mount, that at the moment only the wealthy would bother to buy (even at the height of the wow tokens price it would easily take over £200 to buy with real money, and you're looking at almost twice that much now).
      Beyond that, you've got a new destiny announcement and that used to crank up the wow token price since you could use them to pay for it, the fact it seems to have so little impact either means destiny 2 is failing hard or BfA is failing so much harder that you can't even tell. But it's also worth mentioning that since we've had a fresh batch of quests that reward gold we have had a massive influx of gold into the most casual parts of the community.
      As for raider groups, perhaps they are spending gold on stuff but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the time they just don't bother. After all, with the price of flasks being what they are is there any reason to not just go as far as you can without them and only use them when they become necessary? I suspect most mythic raiding guilds are capable of clearing normal without them, but perhaps maybe the end of heroic brings it out for them?

      They've dumbed everything down. Completely. The gcd change and the refusal to change back. The way the new menus work. The fact that things aren't fun has a lot to do with stretching things out and dumbing things way down. Along with taking focus away from raids which only a small percentage really do. All this looks like effects of things they are dumbing down and stretching out to POSSIBLY slowly make things more conducive to console. IMO that's all I'm saying. To me the effects now seem to have a hidden cause. Blizz has never been this weird for lack of a better word.

      Legion only really suffered from 4 major things IMO:
      Absurd RNG on loot, iffy class design, the AP grind and Patch 7.2 (AKA the "Shit we don't actually have a whole lot of content for you guys so we're just gonna artificially drag it out to last a month, please stay subscribed to us" patch).
      The rest of it was great.
      BFA is like they took all the bad parts of Legion and put them front and centre, removing or completely half-arsing the good parts of Legion.

    • @ZeroiusProduction
      @ZeroiusProduction 6 років тому

      I can agree on the AP grind, that shit was a pain until they fixed it with the increased shit.
      RNG looting is ALWAYS absurb. But remember, mythic+ was introduced which helped it a lot. Probably one of the best things yet they ever made.
      BFA is basically like Draenor, a filler expansion which probably will lead into an expansion where it will be 10 times better.

      Yes, Legion did implement lots of good stuff, but the way you play the game is similar to BFA imo.
      Timegated shit that if you don't do it you'll fall behind.

    Im sorry Mike but you've done it again. You (and the apologists) skip over the biggest reason Blizzard has made all these screw ups. The main reason why Ive gone to another RPG since this probably is the future of World of Warcraft unless this foundational problem is fixed.
    Blizzard Entertainment no longer exists. Its BLIZZARD - ACTIVISION now. This is not something that's going to change. They are too large to care any longer about the opinions of the pleb players that fund their projects. Instead the "Fiduciary Responsibility to their shareholders" that they have under US Law is and will forever be their primary concern. They have become (as we say in the US) "too big to fail/screw up".

I personally think that WoW has more or less shielded itself from Activision's greater pay-to-win ambitions, but the Activision influence is quite clear. Will be interesting to see how WoW Classic ultimately plays out, both in terms of user interest (would high interest drive future WoW products towards a more classic experience?) and in whether or not Activision slaps some sort of microtransaction model onto it.

Out of some twisted self hate we decided to satisfy our curiosity and check to see how the progress on the bugs we had found went. (as well as im sure plenty of others reported since we didn't look to terribly hard). SUPRISE! I got to find out the hard way that the escape stormwind scenario is STILL nice and bugged at the end if you dont kill the bridge bros before the jaina cut-scene... NEATO great way to start an expansion! Good to know our beta tickets and bug reports go right into the old recycle bin!
    It's not even a hard fix, just set the cut-scene to trigger off the NPC proximity not the player so the player won't start it before the NPCs are close enough... Wave after wave of adds keep spawning and the NPCs wont get on the boat. seems like a pretty major bug considering it is preventing you from starting the entire expansion.

The Island expeditions just need special hidden items, secrete loot, real treasure, or at least give you the AP you found, It feels like work, making money for the man, and only get a slice for yourself.

    I love how even though they had the m+ titanforge issue (which they fixed afaik,) they said in yesterday's hotfix bluepost that they had fixed a bug where offhands were titanforging and they shouldn't be, but that they wouldn't remove those items from the game. I don't begrudge my raid leader the 395 off-hand he pulled in a +5, it helps my raid team, but I really look forward to when Blizz announces the BfA alpha because this shit is friends and family early access.
