  • This weeks video sees us riding into Stirling Point at Bluff which is the southernmost point for New Zealand's longest road, state highway 1.
In a previous video a few weeks ago we rode from Te Anau to Orepuki where we stopped to put on wet weather gear due to an approaching storm and now we continue that same ride through to Stirling Point in Bluff which is a distance of around 100km. As we pass through Invercargill we move from SH99 onto SH1 for the last 30km and enjoy riding to the southern endpoint of a road that travels more than 2,000km running the length of the country. SH1 starts in Cape Reinga in Northland then runs down the down the centre of the North Island before continuing on into the South Island from Picton and then continuing down the East Coast of the South Island before cutting inland after Dunedin to Gore and then heading South to Invercargill and finally to Bluff.
It was great to finally ride this part of the country and see Bluff and the Southern Ocean from the southernmost tip of SH1 enjoyed with an awesome riding crew. Making lasting memories.
    Ride safe, have fun.

    Nice!
I am enjoying exploring the rides around Christchurch on my new bike...
I have never been to Bluff though... 🤔

You should definitely do Bluff one day, but maybe wait until some warmer weather happens along

Rode 'round the South Island in 2019(?) with South Pacific Moto Tours. Your narration took me right back, though we didn't go south of Invercargill. Good times. Thanks.

There was a lot to enjoy riding around Southland and we barely scratched the surface. Looking forward to going back there and spend a little more time

Lived in Invercargill back in the late 80s. How was the wind on the Bluff straight and you prknow this, that the bluff highway has the longest S bend in the southern hemisphere

Wind on the Bluff highway was okay, was much more windy back on SH99 as we rode along the southern coast towards Riverton. Having said that, none of the wind in Southland came close to the wind we experienced coming through Burkes Pass towards the lakes. That was some wild stuff and the torrential rain that came with it was just the cherry on top 😎
