Destination Huapai Tavern With HOG Auckland Chapter
Back on the road again with HOG Auckland Chapter riding to the Huapai Tavern following a scenic route around the northern and western edges of the Auckland region.
This video was filmed at the end of July as a group of around 20 bikes left North Auckland Harley-Davidson on a sunny Saturday afternoon before finally arriving at Huapai almost two hours later for refreshments and a bite to eat.
During my commentary I mention that Old North Road was the main road north which isn't quite accurate. Probably better to say it was one of a number of roads heading north and travelling through Riverhead Forest before tapering out prior to Helensville where it then passes the baton to other roads to plough onwards to Northland.
I should probably also clarify my comment concerning Bethells Road which leads down to Te Henga (Bethells beach) and confirm that, yes, the road is actually open providing access to the beach and also an alternate way to access Scenic Drive in the Waitakere Ranges. The caveat around that is a large section or two of roadway currently set to single lane controlled by traffic lights as the road is rebuilt following serious slips during some not-so-recent weather events in Auckland.

Riding North On a Sunny Weekend On Auckland's Northern Motorway
Переглядів 2222 місяці тому
On this weeks video I take a quick dash along Auckland's northern motorway on a sunny weekend riding northbound from Albany and exiting at Millwater. This was recorded at the beginning of a solo recon outing last summer and the reason to put it up now is to remind myself that it's not always cold or wet and sunny days will come back again. Ride safe, have fun. Rhastafarian by Audionautix is lic...
In A David And Goliath Encounter We Leave An Aston Martin DB11 AMR Far Behind
Переглядів 8122 місяці тому
During a recent ride through the Waikato we shared the road with an amazing looking Aston Martin DB11 AMR V12. Eventually we had to overtake them as they needed a lot more road room to exercise all that muscle. It looks like this fairly rare model is packaged with a twin turbocharged 5.2 litre V12 generating 630bhp and has a top speed in excess of 330kmh so it carries a whole lot more brute for...
We Left Bluff To Ride To Motorcycle Mecca In Invercargill
Переглядів 1882 місяці тому
This video was filmed back in April on the 30 km journey from Bluff to Invercargill where we rode back down the Bluff Highway to the Motorcycle Mecca Museum and Cafe for lunch. After our meal we travelled onwards through the Catlins and up to Mosgiel for the night so we certainly got in our fair share of riding during this southern tour. The weather wasn't the greatest on this day but that just...
Playing Cat And Mouse With Two Highway Patrol Cars On Auckland Motorway
Переглядів 4,6 тис.2 місяці тому
In todays video I encounter two highway patrol cars who are travelling just under the speed limit on state highway 1 and rather than queue up behind them I decided to overtake them in probably the slowest overtaking manoeuvre I have ever performed on my bike. What would you do ? My usual instinct when overtaking or travelling alongside another vehicle on a highway, and I think this is the same ...
Auckland Harley Davidson Special Event - Ride With Ray

Last weekend saw Auckland Harley-Davidson Managing Director Ray Pratt lead out more than 50 Harley-Davidsons from the Mt Wellington store onto the Southern motorway down to Mercer by way of the Hunua Ranges and Mangatawhiri. It was great to be part of it all and have the camera rolling to capture some moments of a very special day. Ray Pratt has been dealer principal of Auckland Harley-Davidson...
Crossing The Harbour Bridge Riding To Auckland Harley-Davidson
Переглядів 3983 місяці тому
This weeks video was filmed on a Saturday morning in April riding from Albany on the North Shore to Auckland Harley-Davidson at Mt Wellington travelling on state highway 1 and crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The weekend traffic can sometimes be very heavy but on this day traffic was reasonably free flowing and the roughly 30km journey took less than 20 minutes without any incidents or hol...
This Really Is The End Of The Road

This weeks video sees us riding into Stirling Point at Bluff which is the southernmost point for New Zealand's longest road, state highway 1. In a previous video a few weeks ago we rode from Te Anau to Orepuki where we stopped to put on wet weather gear due to an approaching storm and now we continue that same ride through to Stirling Point in Bluff which is a distance of around 100km. As we pa...

Who Would Ride Nearly 500 Kilometres For Fish And Chips Anyway ?
So why do u totally change the way u drive around cops, u should be driving very carefully all the time, 90% of people dont realise its legal, so u are pissing off 90% of people
In respect of lane splitting there was no change in the way I was riding when going past the police vehicles and any other vehicles and the commentary also makes it clear that the main thing about lane splitting is be safe and don't be a dick about it. Thanks for watching.
Great video thanks! Gonna do the loop tomorrow on my Trumpy Bobber 🤘🏻👍🏻
Hope you enjoyed your run around the loop, it’s always a good day 😎
I ride that stretch from Manukau to the city most days and back and done lots of touring. I see numerous patrol cars. Never been stopped. So long as you are riding safe with proper gear (even if i am a bit quick sometimes and lane split) they have always just left me alone. I am always expecting an over zealous one.. its probably matter of time.
Same as me on every count, hardly ever been stopped and as long as you lane split sensibly without putting yourself or others at risk they tend to leave you alone. Cheers 😎
What a shit day at the end. Yep if you don't go over the speed limit I can't see any issues with passing a Cop car. Thanks for the video.
Cheers, thanks for watching 😎
That is a crime fake gun or not ....
Yup, I have to agree, at the very least a crime of gross stupidity
The problem is when people see cops on the rd they shit themselves and slow down. You don't have to go same speed as cops if they are doing 90 on a 100k motorway just stick to the speed limit but watch out when they are actually doing 100
Exactly 💯 😎
❤ride it before its illegal. Fks sakembe wary for moronic tourist drivers. Take your dryzabone. Ride safe ❤
Thanks for watching, agree with everything you just said 😎
Its imp grotto you gotta keep an eye on 😂❤😊
definitely got to look out for the imp grottos 💯 😎
Sounds like Bob and knob bobs laugh
exactly the sound I was going for !
@@HughBeRiding what sound is that knobbs or bobbs
yaaa hes back....
Good some good film from yesterday's ride which might just make it to the UA-cams one day 🤣
Nice ride dude 👍
yeah, it was one of those great weather late winter rides 😎
Keep left unless passing mate. You are one of those people holding up traffic
I was passing mate and looking in the rearview mirror there was no single soul being impeded by me. Strangely hardly anybody is keen to zip on past a highway patrol car which is doing 98kmh in a 100kmh zone, hence the cautionary approach.
Luppo Lipsham 👍🏾
Well spotted 😎🤘

Which is the best setting? I have a TPX 2 and I thought the police use the K band? if this is the case and the setting is NoK then does that mean you’re not going to get any alerts from the K band?
Hi, I couldn't say whether it's "the best" setting but I use HwyNoK mode which means I won't get alerts from K-band which includes fixed speed cameras, red light cameras, mobile camera vans BUT is also used by a huge array of other GPS/Navigation/Radar devices mobile and fixed which will completely overwhelm your radar alerts. I tried it briefly and it was not a great experience. None of the penalties for those enforcement-based K-band activations include demerit points and that is the thing I am most keen to avoid. What the HwyNoK setting will pick up is Ka-band which is used in Stalker Dual Radar units deployed in enforcement vehicles all over the country and will most definitely include demerit points if you are unlucky enough to be stopped and ticketed. I suppose in the end it comes down to whether you want alerts going off ALL the time or only want the most painful stuff to be brought to your attention as you are riding along. As always, it's your own decision. Cheers.
@@HughBeRiding Thanks mate that makes sense. I live just out of Cambridge and ride Raglan, Coro loop and the epic country roads we have down here and the only alerts I have got so far have been railway crossings and travelling behind some cars as it picks up the sensors. I would imagine motorways would be very different story. I appreciate your advice. Great videos!
thanks mate, glad you enjoy them
Thanks, Hugh. Happy to see you’re back with another great video 👍🏻
Cheers Ian, see you on the next one 😎🤘
Great vid as per norm HughBe, strange not seeing BlueThunder in the lineup, took me a few moments to notice it wasn't there but Mahalo in it's place....lol
Cheers TJ, took me a moment to recognise the corner marker at Waikoukou Valley Road/Old North Road intersection 🤣 Great to see you back on the road with us😎
Takapuna to huapi only 15k big ride
Actually 27km if you ride by the most direct route but we prefer to take the long way around and on this ride I clocked up 143km door to door while anyone riding from the south shore would have travelled further. Our regular casual Saturday rides usually average around 130km-300km while our monthly longer distance day rides will typically cover around 500km-600km. Just saying.
Hi i like your video
Glad you enjoyed it 🤘😎

Hell yeah! The trouble is, I can't fit my shovel on the bike. 🤔 (My gold pan and sluice box are not much good without the shovel!!).
A surprisingly common problem 🤣🤣
can non harleys riders join the ride, have a least 1 bike in the ride that wont break down
good one Jimmy
Mates and I rode the length of the West Coast and out via the Haast Pass on our dirt bikes (XR and XT 500's) back in 1979. It was gravel all the way. Supreme fun for a bunch teens out exploring the South Island.
Sounds like an amazing ride. Great way to make some everlasting memories 😎🤘
Epic ride ❤
nice 2 c someone ride a familiar strip of road, cheers
glad you liked it 😎
Woo!
that's what I thought too 🤘
Absolute loser probably just got his restricted and genuinely thinks what he did was slick...
Yeah boy!!! 🤘
Stretching the legs 😎
Clickbait. It suggests you raced the Aston with a slow HD! Any 400cc Japanese bike is faster.
Who hurt you as a child ? I'm sorry for your suffering
The AM driver could easily have overtaken the slow traffic, as well as you, but he wasn't trying to boost his ego or self-confidence. You were. And I'm a motorcycle rider, in case you're wondering.
And I have no illusions about what the AM or any of those other cars could do if they wanted but they didn't. I'm a motorcycle rider too, just trying to get home safely. I think your ego story might be a bit of self reflection. Ride safe.
@@HughBeRidingActually, NO, you don't think that. You just have to give some kind of smarty-pants response. Confirming what I wrote about your ego. Ride safe, and respect the double-yellow line AND the speed limits.
Harley bag of spanner’s against one of the most developed cars on the planet. What a joke 😂😂😂😂
Looks like $300k well spent to me

I love riding my motorbike... Never get that much filtering space here in Christchurch though!!
Well you just have to work with the hand you are dealt I suppose. Ride safe ! 😎
Lol, your funny HughBe, byebye Mr Bond
We stopped to put on wets in the gorge and by the time we got going again mayhem was already happening on SH2 so we changed course and came across that gas guzzling super car which later became a speck in our rear view mirrors 🤣
Lane splitting is surely preferable to contributing to congestion.
Absolutely, it's exactly that and in my opinion safer for the motorbike rather than the alternative of being in stop start traffic waiting to get rear-ended
Shame the AM wasn't up for so fun 😅 tbh from my experience 90% of owners of those fast luxury cars have no idea how to drive them effectively 😂
True that! It's almost like they threw down quarter of a million plus on a car and then got too scared to drive it. Great looking car though 😎
You can say that about almost any driver in any vehicle on the road
🫤
😼🐭
Yeah its a lot more difficult to pass in a car for sure. Love the bike for that aspect. Nice ride up there 👍
Yeah, that is certainly the case and a good enough reason to love being on the bike, especially when the countryside looks so amazing🤘
Refreshing look at lane splitting/filtering. I was in similar circumstances not too long ago, and I found the Auckland traffic pretty bad too. Cars just trying to push me out of my lane, etc (not looking basically). I always get nervous in rain with the white "lines", etc.
Cheers, yes, you certainly need to keep your mind on the job and anticipate a few moves ahead 😎
There needs to be more gravel on country road corners so Harley riders avoid these areas. 😂
Good news for you, there's plenty of gravel and potholes too on the state highways 😎 Doesn't seem to keep the Harleys or any other bikes from touring though
🏁🏆
😎 🇳🇿
Nice ride along 😎👍🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for commenting 😎🤘
I love listening to music. Why not enjoy it while watching a great ride... it's all joy.

lol I was on that road a few hours ago driving home from work. love it
it's a tidy little road, certainly get's it's share of trucks 😎
Nice one!
Cheers Leon, looking forward to go back and spend more time in Motorcycle Mecca, that place is amazing
😎👍👍
slowest overtaking move of my life 🤣
GET OUT OF THE FAST LANE DOPEY
there is no fast lane dopey well when the speed limit is 100kph only a right lane to pass slow traffic or sit at 80 t0 90 in the other 2 lanes.
yup, was really holding up hundreds of cars impatient to speed past the highway patrol
@@HughBeRiding haha I noticed the speeding cars as you passed the at under 100kph REEEEEly rushing aight..
I don’t see cat and mouse. I do see someone riding his bike like he drives a car. Hogging the right lane while going slow as you do leaves you too open and exposed to danger. Use the advantage of the noble bike and ride it like it’s meant to be ridden.
Nimble not noble😂
thanks for the tip, you certainly know how to do things properly
Rider of 50 years here, low rider 2022, in most instances the NZ cops will accomadate a biker doing a few k,s over to stay safe. I was told that by a cop. Dont sweat it. I wouldnt hammer past at 130 but if you do get pulled over just mention without the attitude you are riding to stay safe and frankly in a traffic jam at 100 klms hour it aint safe. Chuck in all the visitor drivers and it would be easier to get into trouble. Do what you need to to stay in the clear.
Yeah, I suppose it depends on who you run into. I have been pinged by zero tolerance roving units before with no sense of humour on 3kmh and 4kmh over the posted speed limit. My policy is don't give them that chance to make an example and get their quota.
