Brooklyn is living a day in the life of Travis. :) She is will probably have a new appreciation of the effort Travis puts in week after week. Great effort getting it done.
I’m so glad the doctor thinks you can heal from this injury . Great to see your family stepping up and helping ,Brooklyn did great . The show must go on. Lol
Travis, I feel your pain. When I was 18, I got thrown from a horse in the middle of November - At that time in Virginia the ground was frozen, and it resulted in a couple of small fractures in my spine. I had to wear a "sacral corset" for 8 weeks. Back then, it was a full-sized, metal-boned, contraption from my tailbone to my upper back! I felt like a Barbie doll! I couldn't sit right in it, couldn't breathe right in it - I was just plain miserable! I do hope the brace they have you in isn't quite as bad as those old ones! Miss Brooklyn, you did awesome! I think you just found out that using a wheel hoe can be an effective exercise program. I know it sure works for this old lady! And Girl, you make it look easy! As for field peas, yes, please! I'll definitely be growing some.
Travis, I was very sorry to hear about your accident. I wish you a speedy recovery. Gardening can be hard work at times, and Brooklyn really stepped up to help you out. What a nice gift from your lovely wife. Ya’ll make a great team.
Found this video after looking for when you planted those 'Tennessee' peas. Didn't find that video yet, maybe it wasn't on film, but glad I saw this sweet video. What a gem of a video! You two are just wonderful together. That is true love right there! 🥰 Had to comment though, that my saved pea seeds are germinating at least 85% even at 4 years, after the year saved. Kept indoors, glass jars with O2 packets, after they are completely dry. No freezer storage or anything. South Carolina growing conditions. No way I'd be happy with only two varieties to rotate through. 😆 I have a five year rotation, and only two of those years are for new pea variety trials. Love the versatility of these delicious peas! The cream peas, like White Acre, make a great baked bean, at maturity. Shelled very green used for succotash, instead of frustrating to shell limas, and so on. What mine do, in regards to aphids, is they show up in droves on only about 2 plants per 80. So I use an exam glove, and horticultural soap, plus neem oil in a jug. Pour some into the glove (over the plant), and wipe the infected plants down while squishing. Do this every few days until there are NO more. Gross, and you lose production for a bit on those few plants, because you can't help squeezing blooms and such, but it stops the spread. (For me, this is faster overall then trying to get neem oil out of a sprayer so often.) Stink bugs and the weevils just have to be drowned in soapy water, as often during the day as you can get to the plants with a bucket. Don't save seeds with a puncture hole.
Great job Brooklyn!! Getting a second opinion when it comes to a doctor that immediately starts pushing surgery is never a bad Idea. Prayers for a full and healthy recovery.
Watching this and just want to say how much I am encouraged seeing you labor together, proving the partnership benefits the Lord wants us to have. I've been blessed this way also. Prayers for Travis' continued healing.
Also want to add, it takes a great teacher with great (and I don't mean just abundant) amount of patience to really teach. My husband taught me how to drive a car, a tractor, lawn mower and keeps teaching me everyday on things. But we learn from each other. You have to be open to accept what that person is teaching. I guess that's what keeps us together so well. God Love him, I don't know what I would do without my husband. (I don't think anyone else would have the patience lol) great job both of you on everything you do together. You are loving together, not just living together like I've seen some couples do.
Glad y’all got the 2nd docs advice! Y’all never think that we only watch y’all’s channel for the garden only! That’s a huge part but when life happens, is humans worry about you. Brooklyn you are doing a fantastic job! 🍭
Way to go Brooklyn!! Travis owes you big time :) My husband has had several compression fractures of his spine and fractured several spinous process bones due to horse accidents. He competes in cowboy mounted shooting. It’s a long healing process but you’re going to be just fine! Follow those doctors orders!
My husband has had 4 back surgeries and you never want to jump on the back surgery bandwagon. Its rough. I hope you're well soon. Take it easy and let the recovery happen. I think I'm going to throw some field peas in the ground this week! Why not!? Appreciate the video.

Hang in there and take care of that back...maybe one day I'll get to share with you how God 'healed' (not hilled...LOL) my back. I continue to be praying for you (both).
You are blessed to have a wife like Brooklyn that has such good instincts. Be patient my friend, listen to your local doctor. Even if it takes a few months just let it heal.
Glad they saw that crack. As hard as it is, do take it easy cause the less you push it, the faster and better you’ll get healed. And yes the brace is rough to wear, but you’ll get there soon and be back to normal doing almost everything again, maybe not a water slide, haha.
I love zipper cream and pinkeye purple hull! I used to enjoy watching tv or just sitting on the porch and shelling peas but a family member bought a electric pea sheller and now their ain’t no going back to them good old days. It can shell out in 20 min what takes me all day to do.

That was one narrow squeak by with respect to your surgery! Where are the little bosses? We have not seen them in a while. Hope they are doing well. God bless your family! You both are such a sweet couple.
They've been spending a lot of time at their "Nana's" house and at different camps during the summer. They'll be back on the videos sporadically throughout the summer.
So thankful God intervened. I love the Scripture that talks about bearing one another's burdens. Brooklyn is bearing your burden. It will make your marriage stronger at the end of 8 wks.

Though tiring, I came to enjoy stepping up and taking care of him and things around the house.
@@LazyDogFarm Travis, I've fractured most of my vertebrae over the years. Always have some pain but just take lots of breaks, lay flat for a bit. Doc wanted to put a bolt in my spine but I would have lost all flexibility. Keep on swimming, swimming, swimming.
She has been doing a great job keeping everything going. I'm sure she'll be glad when we start planting some cover crops and the harvesting slows a bit.
I just had to go in "The Surgical Center " & got an "Spinal Shot " in my lower back. My Dr. said I should never get back surgery because my back is in too bad a condition. So the shots helps with the pain. They say if you ever have back problems , you will always have back problems. Take care of your back while your young.
Travis, most Yankees don't know what butter beans are, much less Fordhook butter beans. And if you tell them lima beans, they think of those dried things that make enough gas to float a hot air balloon, not the fresh green beans. I'm out in Cali and sure do miss butter beans. Where I am, nights don't stay warm enough, so I had to give up planting them. Sure do miss some of the good Southern foods that just aren't readily available in a lot of other places. So glad y'all got that other opinion on your back. Many blessings.
@@LazyDogFarm Yes, indeed. I was surprised to see that a company sells butter peas commercially. pictsweetfarms.com/product/butter-peas/southern-classics/traditional-preparation/82546/
Brooklyn's not only easy on the eyes but she's mighty handy as well. Solid pick. I understand that the White Acre variety of field pea shows resistance to pea curculio. I'm alternating OMRI listed Monterey Garden Insect Spray (spinosad) with Azera (azadirachtin and pyrethroids) which is even labeled for leaf footed bugs. Nothing organic will stop that pea curculio though, so bring out the Sevin and don't look back. I'm trialing six determinates and six heirlooms so I'll send you those results. Take the time to heal while you teach Brooklyn along with the rest of us..
My hats off to Brooklyn. She did a wonderful job. We are loving you two together in the garden we laughed and enjoyed this video so much. Cant wait for the next one. I hope you cooked that hardworking woman a good meal JERK! 😜🤣prayers
I love my pink eye purple hull peas and my regular black eyed peas I been growing them here In Minnesota for a long time 30 years. I aint into crowder peas much but y'all did a great job showin how to do it. Yes sir I do save my seeds for next year save $3. God gives us timeouts from time to time and take some time to listen there maybe a lesson coming your way. Thank you for what y'all do here it does make a difference.
BTW, my dad used inoculant when he planted soybeans...but instead of water, he used milk. He said the inoculant would stick to the seed better than using water.
Great job Brooklyn!👏👏👏👏 I know you smile for the camera and try to keep a good attitude but I also know life has dealt YALL a hard hand. I know you don’t know me but I’m proud of the way you’ve stepped up. I also know you’re worried about Travis. Please know many people are praying for your family. God bless you both. I love peas but haven’t had much luck keeping the aphids off of them. Hopefully this year will be better.
Thanks guys. We used to have quite a bit of aphids on ours too, in addition to the weevils that would sting them. Didn't want to use the Liquid Sevin stuff, but that's the only way we were able to keep them clean. Thankfully we only had to spray them twice.
@@LazyDogFarm I bought some at Home Depot yesterday. It doesn’t bother me to use what works to be able to produce a good crop. Better to spray than to watch the bugs feast and destroy. Thanks for the solid advice.
Travis if you take a mix of calcium 6 to 8 tablets a day half in the AM and the other half in the PM with your meals you can cut your recovery time significantly. John S.
Praising God with you all for that divine second opinion appointment! Whoop! Whoop!
For sure! Thanks Jodi!
And may I add, Brooklyn stepping up to make things work; awwwwwesome lady! Can't find many women like that any more. Awesome.
Blessed to have her for sure!

As a women, I appreciate seeing a women use the wheelhoe. Great job Brooklyn! 👏🏼
She was a pro in just a few minutes with that thing!
Completely agree! And she did a great job.
Now that’s love, you guys are a cute couple.
It was a fun morning playing in the garden. Thanks for watching Barbara!

Yes! The show must go on!
I bet Brooklyn has a whole lot more respect for your hard work now.
Maybe so. I think it helps anyone to experience what goes into getting all this stuff producing.
Grandpa always said "you can grow more on a crooked crooked row" . Lol
My dad always said, as long as a snake doesn't break its back going down the row, the row is fine.
Very true. Just gotta make sure they're all crooked though. Can't have one crooked row and three straight ones. lol
Our GOD blesses those who bless others. Glad prayers were answered!

I've also found that most folks don't know the difference between a "butterpea" and a "butterbean." Got some educating to do!
The ole pea curculio is a nasty booger! Haven't ever heard about the white acre resistance, but that sounds promising.
Brooklyn, you are a champion! Great job!I really see it watching your sweet family! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Pat!
Am thanking the Lord for this beautiful opportunity for you both to be such a living testimony for others.
Yes! God Bless you and your family Robin.
Brooklyn is my new hero. You two make a good team
Thanks R P!
Go Brooklyn Go! You two make a great team! Blessings on your family.
Thank you! You too!
Go,Brooklyn!!
Country giri,can survive!!
God bless
Haha! That same day she was asking me where was the shotgun so she could take care of some pigeons that keep getting between our barn roof.
My hats off to Brooklyn. She did a wonderful job. We are loving you two together in the garden we laughed and enjoyed this video so much. Cant wait for the next one. I hope you cooked that hardworking woman a good meal JERK! 😜🤣prayers
We were fortunate to have quite a few folks bring us meals the last week. So thankfully she didn't have to cook.
Love the fact Brooklyn’s not afraid to give credit to the Lord. Thumbs up y’all
Always!
Good to hear you're growing the good stuff way up north! Thanks for watching!
@@LazyDogFarm y'all know you can take the boy outta the south but you can't take the south outta the boy
I’d never tried them but my wife is from south Ga and she’s scrappy! Lol she makes field peas and rice with conecuh sausage it is so dang good!
BTW, my dad used inoculant when he planted soybeans...but instead of water, he used milk. He said the inoculant would stick to the seed better than using water.
Not a bad idea! I could see where it would stick better.
You should be really proud of all that hard work Brooklyn. Props to you girl!!!!
Yes she should! She did a great job!
We love field peas. They go great with cornbread. I usually just make it a meal!
Yep! Add a little ham hock and it's a meal!
Is that a pepper at 20:11! Holy moly
Yeah, that's a Big Jim pepper. They get huge!
Travis if you take a mix of calcium 6 to 8 tablets a day half in the AM and the other half in the PM with your meals you can cut your recovery time significantly. John S.
Appreciate the tip! I can do that!
Great job Brooklyn!!
Yes indeed!
Brooklyn you did a great job
Yes she did!
You need to try Dixie Lee peas! They have the best flavor. Not as fat as crowder, green when shelled and grey color when cooked.
