Nice car. I have my father's 740 T with 21,000 miles. I had to replace a piece of the exhaust pipe... I even reused the original clamp. I take it out a few times a year to take dad for a ride.
The IG comments weren't too far off tho, had this vid got uploaded on 1st of April, comments would have gone "We gotta get a betting pool going, how long until the rear quarters get skewed one way?" 😅
As for the wagon cage, color-matched with gussets on A-pillar.
For the antenna: volvo sells a repair kit for it. This has the tooth cord in it that you need to repair it. It's a bit of fanagelling but you can do it if you have some patience.
The kit is the same for 740, 760,780 and 940 (maybe even early 960?)
For the roll cage: the contrast color would be bright ORANGE. That would be nice.

You could get to 12psi when new on the 740 if you bought the Turbo Plus kit which was a dealer installed option.
Wish I had a factory manual, but from 87 with only 44k miles I can’t complain. Gold exterior with same interior shown, although this red 744 has much nicer interior.

Basically my exact car, did an IPD cam, holset he-35 with tims turbo exhaust housing, ipd springs, s60 r rims with Hancook v12s, no rust, took every panel off, cleaned coated and reinstalled, 1990 tail lights, fancy new turn signals, standard, sunroof (the metal one) leather etc etc etc etc. but guess what, no where to keep it, lost my job, sold it to a ding dong for like 1500$ 😭 that was like 3 years ago and I’m still heartbroken

I appreciate that you are planning to keep it clean and stock, as that is my intention for mine as well. Mine is a tan wagon with the tan houndstooth seats.

I happened to find a super clean 91 940 turbo sadan before winter hit and I've been dreaming all winter about what ide like do do with it after seeing this I may just have keep him stock. I live in Maine and it's gotten hard to find a clean volvos. In the last 5 years I've bought two 91 240 wagons a 95 940 na sadan and the 91 turbo sadan. I have to have every one I see
If you’re going to do the headliner yourself a lot of forums say you should use glue but that can soak through some fabrics and make it look low quality. i had to redo mine twice before i got it looking how i want. normally the foam itself has deteriorated and caused the fabric to separate from the headliner board, so usually it’s best to scrap the factory fabric, and scrape off the old foam. i’ve found that you can get 6’ wide 8th inch foam and it was perfect at least for mine. contact cement seemed to work the best, applied with a paint roller lightly as to not push it through the fabric and just adhere as directed.

you should STEEL-IT the cage. they have a kinda darker silver. would go great with the blue, have some pop to it, its super tuff and holds up over time and actually has steel in the paint making it weldable!

For the headliner fiber board you can put fiber glass epoxy on the board and it makes it wayyy stronger and it lets the fabric stick to the board better
do you run an afr on any of your cars or just send it with a controller and boost gauge?
I bought a 79 240, the only thing wrong with it really was the engine wasnt runing too good, trouble with cold starts etc, a good solution was a carburetor swap, getting rid of the semi injection, so what I did is I pulled the motor & put a 5.3 vortec in it, it should run good now 👍

For the cage in the blue car, colour matched blue would be my play but if you want the cage to pop maybe a silver with the same metallic as the car?
I was thinking white would look nice with the roll cage. My 740 has a crappy paint job and the interior is shot i love seeing these with nice paint and interior. Its a wagon with 300k miles 740 gl red leather interior. the paint is supposed to be silver but it looks more like a matte gray.

I’m looking to buy my first Volvo, initially I was set on an 850 but now I’m leaning towards a 740 😂
If you're just going to be driving like a regular person, the 5 cylinder is pretty sweet, even just the 170hp n/a one. And the 850 seats are super comfortable and supportive, people commonly swap them into older volvos.

Kool car. That settles it, I'm keeping my garaged 1989 740 GL, (auto) 114HP completely stock, with 95,600 miles on it.
I drive it like a "old lady" when in reality actually I'm a "old man".
I know you're going to replace the headliner and I'm wondering how that can be done on the sedans, as opposed to the wagons where you have a huge rear door opening.
My solution for my far-rear area headliner is to use "all metal flat head sewing pins"... the trick is to protect your fingers with a metal thimble and push them in from horizontal angle so the imbedded portion can't just easily pull down and out. Not pushed straight in
where various types of pins can easily pull down and out with the open window wind.

1988, then GLT 16 Valve with B234 was available aswell, and strangely the Turbo weren't the fastest model for a short while if I recall correctly. Did you get that engine in the US?
