I was just thinking the same thing as I clicked on this video not even a minute in. It’s refreshing to see content that has a genuine vibe. I appreciate you both sharing.
I was just thinking the same thing. This is one of the best homestead channels I’ve come across in years. You have no idea how much they have helped me so far this year. And I’ve been gardening since I was a young.. I’m really appreciating your knowledge.
Love your videos. It’s easy to see that you know what you’re doing. There are so many videos where the people are just making the video and not teaching anything useful. Keep up the good work and God bless you.
Great information! I love all the details. That’s a really cool tool! My hubby might not want to lend me his drill for gardening 😂! You all are both so interesting. Thank you for doing this!😊
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and thanks for helping empty my wallet on Amazon. I think I'm definitely going to switch to the driptape this year over soaker hoses. Where do you source larger amounts of hose from and all the associated valves, tees, etc?
Love your channel! The videos are always filled with such helpful and timely information. Thank you very much and keep up the great work! Side note, I love how neat and tidy your garden is🌸
Started my tomatoes and peppers at the same time, may take another month before the peppers are ready to go but the tomatoes I'll be transplanting this week hopefully. I took inspiration from yalls trellises on your tomato video and made one similar. Can't wait to see them take off
Absolutely wonderful channel! Dad explains the process of indeterminate tomatoes so completely. I have had to follow multiple people to build my knowledge, but there are always gaps in their teaching. This video was very thorough and I find myself without questions. I especially loved the explanation of pruning and fertilizer use. I can't wait to watch your video on peppers! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Best of luck!
Just found your channel and love it. Great and meaningful content. I have a question; would you use the same amendments for bush green beans? Thanks and keep up the great content. God bless you all.
You have a great channel! The information you put forth is invaluable to me. There are too many channels where the presenters act excited and speak too quickly. You take your time and make it easier to comprehend. Thank you.
Love your channel. Very different than other gardening channels but in this market, different is good! Growing conditions in your climate are very different than mine in North Texas but I am still able to learn many things from watching you and all your years of experience. Thank you for sharing with us and may God bless you and your family with prosperity and peace for honoring Him.
Thanks for the very kind words! Yes our climate is soooo different than yours but maybe there might be a tiny bit of information dispersed throughout our videos that can be a help to you, thanks for watching! the Lord's blessings be with you!
Wow! Thank you Ryan for your very generous Super Thanks! That is so kind of you! We're glad you enjoy our content so much! Do you have any gardening questions we can help you with? For those of you who have given us a super thanks, your questions are certainly at the top of the list to be answered first! May God generously bless you for your generosity!
@@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork I'm not sure if it's been addressed in a previous video, but have you ever experimented with biochar? God bless you and your family.
I've tried using biochar in the past and honestly I couldn't tell any difference in my results so I discontinued using, I wouldn't be surprised if it is helpful in poorer soils but mine certainly isn't poor, I have very biologically active soil and that's probably why I didn't notice any benefit. Have a blessed day!
Very timely and beneficial information. We are in Portland and just about to plant our peppers. How long and wide are your beds? Do you use the entire five gal of soil amendments to each bed?
I noticed Dan is quite tall and keeps his face away when he adds the dusty amendments. I’m thinking for the rest of us height challenged people would probably mask up. I don’t think inhaling the dust would be very good. I love your channel. Thanks for the tips on growing peppers. I like your trellis.
Wow! Amazing! Thank you so so much @tassiegirl1991! You are the first person ever to give us a Super Thanks! That is now something no one else can claim! Congrats! It's late at night here (past midnight) and I can hardly wait to tell dad tomorrow about your Super Thanks you gave us! Of course we'll get an answer to your question too - it's at the top of our list! May God bless you for your thoughtful generosity!
One of my gardens is on a property with horses. Would horse manure compost be an okay substitute for the cow compost? I'm also coastal and have been looking into composting the sargassum/seaweed that regularly washes ashore.
I had to figure out that your typo "bar" meant "but" and then it made sense. 😊 Greensand is also called glauconitic greensand. That's all I could find as far as other names for greensand. Hope this helps! Happy gardening!
It needs 10 psi according to the manufacturer, so if you could elevate your source high enough to give you that kinda pressure I'm sure it'd work great! Blessings!
What fertilizer did you use for the germination on pepper plants? The one you did for us a few videos back? I put my bell pepper plants in full sun and the sun made them wilt and die. I since have germinated more and put them under a shade cloth and they seem to be doing a heck of a lot better.
We used the seed starting soil mix on our peppers during the germination stage. Either of our seed starting soil mix videos have a recipe you can use. Hardening off is c=necessary for most plants - looks like you missed that and burned your peppers.😬 Blessings!
We have a patio with clear roof I had them outside for like 2 weeks, took them out for a few hours brought them back in, then got up to a day then a couple days ect…they seemed fine so when the nice sunny weather came I planted them. What would a normal hardening off be like?
Wait wait wait. Actually now that I think about it. They were extras that I didn’t harden off. I planted the ones I wanted in bags and some had two together in one cup so I had to leave them and separated them later. So yea you are correct I didn’t harden them off may have been some shock as well. But I’d still like to know what you would do for a hardened off process.
I actually don't harden them off because they come from the greenhouse and they don't need hardening off. But if I were to harden them off it's just a matter of putting them in sunshine for an hr the first day and then 2 hrs the next day and then 4 hrs the next day then plant them😁
I have two rows of Yukon potatoes already growing and was wondering if I could plant a row of peppers and how far away from the potatoes should they be planted
I'd plant peppers at least 3 feet away unless you have a way to keep your potatoes from falling over, peppers need a lot of sun and heat,I'm afraid the potatoes will block some of the sun and heat if they're very close together.
@@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork Well I paid $70.69 for one on Amazon that was probably worth the 69 cents! You guys are so talented I bet you could sell them for more than that.

Thanks! (Just to be safe, I removed your post that had purchase/ transaction info :) I found it on Amazon. Yes, most - if not all - of the wooden sifters on Amazon look cheaply made. The mesh/grate should be actually fastened to the frame and under tension to strengthen the frame and hold it together. Do you prefer tall frame sides like you bought, or shorter frame sides like we use in our videos?
Planting out my peppers today, great timing. I’ve planted mine in pairs the last couple of years and have had great production. Curious if you do any additional fertilizer as they grow. Thank you. God bless you.
No, everything is there for the whole season, I typically front load everything so I don't disturb the biology by adding amendments mid season. Blessings!
I've never done a soil test and I've grown more world record tomatoes and eggplant than anyone else has ever grown so I think that is proof of what I'm doing,I've learned in the 50+ yrs of growing how to read the plants health and adjust the amendments accordingly, I'm not trying to brag I'm just stating the facts. You certainly don't have to do what I'm doing and you can certainly grow nice tomatoes another way but I like to grow nutrient dense food knowing that it has all the minerals to keep us well,if your soil doesn't have all the minerals in it neither will your produce! It may seem like a lot of amendments but remember most of it is compost. Have a blessed day!
I love your videos but if I have to buy all those amendments it gets spendy. If you tally up all the amendments on your list in the description it’s way over $500 Maybe your idea of not expensive is $500 but for someone with not much of a budget that is a lot. If anyone wants to financially support my garden please send money. The Tilther alone is $600.
That's why we are starting up an online store to sell amendments. We aim to provide better amendments at cheaper prices and in the quantity you need. Of course you can put less quantity on your beds than what we show and still get better results than nothing, that's for sure!
Not sure how you came up with 500.00 for amendments, but I'll assure you that isn't correct! Most of what is put on is compost which cost 2.25 per cubic foot, the rest of the amendments cost about 5.00 so 7.25 to amend 120 square ft I believe is very reasonable. Thank you for watching and have a blessed day!
