I study medecine in belgium and I also want to do child psychiatry for the interdisciplinary aspect!! I just love the holistic approach in child psychiatry!!
*We are celebrating the 100 subscriber milestone already! Here are MY favorite things about psychiatry :)* PS Sorry about the audio & video being weird!!! My camera kept overheating (during winter). Thank you for being patient as I learn :) Thanks for watching!!! Dr Jackie
Thank you Dr.Jackie! I can't imagine how Child Psychiatrist like you deal with parents, it would be very challenging for me lol although I'd enjoy helping childrens
I really want to be a psychiatrist when I'm older because I'm really good at helping others around me, a lot of people including my older relatives always say how I'm very easy to talk to and extremely good at comforting when needed. This video was awesome!! but i have a few questions 1. Can you still be a psychiatrist and have past/present mental health records? (idk if that makes sense) 2. How long does it take to become a psychiatrist? 3. What education is needed to become a psychiatrist? 4.what attracted you to become a psychiatrist? That is all the questions i have :)) and again thanks so much for this video u did an amazing job!!
Hi! that's so great! I encourage you to take a look at my videos in the Become A Psychiatrist playlist specifically How to Become a Psychiatrist. All your questions are excellent and really common ones that I wanted to make sure I covered early on. Thank you so much!
Your first question is easy in terms of legally,, you of course cannot be prevented from pursuing psychiatry if you've struggled with depression or any other mental illness. However, it is important to know how treating others with mental illness will impact your own mental health and vice versa, how your history could impact how you practice medicine.
Dr Jackie , I really appreciate your efforts! I'm a medical student and an aspirant of USMLE . I'll be taking step 1 in 2023. Can you please guide me in a little detail about the scope ,life style and challenges one faces during choosing pschiatry especially in US as a resident doctor?
Congratulations!!! Good luck on your Step!! I'd say lifestyle wise, residency can be some of the toughest years in terms of busy/long hours but learning is exponential. It's important that you keep your friends and family close during this busy time and reminding yourself it is temporary. It really is important to keep what is useful and leave what is not.
+Ada Krista Bernardo yes! There are several instances we might order labwork such as making sure that there’s not a medical reason for someone’s symptoms, monitoring potential side effects of the meds we are prescribing or to even check the blood level of a medication. Thank you for asking!
hi!! I had to get rid of the instagram due to too many spammers! if you feel comfortable I'm so happy to answer as many questions here in the comments as possible :)

haha the better the parents are doing, the better the children do and vice versa so there is no child psychiatry without working with caregivers!
Team work makes the dream work.
