Another book I don't have (do have it in PDF form, but reading Fighting Fantasy in PDF is a bit of a pain... In fact it's pretty much impossible). This one looks a really interesting one with its link to Orb and the three evil adventures making an appearance (I'm guessing they cause a bit of chaos in the book, but at least with hindsight we know they'll all end up diving into the world serpents maw to an unknown fate... along with yourself, the ninja!!!). Also, thanks for the shout out at the beginning.
Another great review, and looking forward to the WOTT reviews. These fantastic books don't get the love they deserve.

@milthyswinbuckle5158 I couldn't agree more fella, they are such great books and were a big part of my childhood. Yep, I'll crack on with WOTT beginning with the prequel Ninja

Haha the lightning-bolt font on the cover of this book inspired me to use a similar style for my childish creative endeavours at the time... This was one of my favourite FFs, great art (I was greatly disturbed by that crocodile-man hybrid) and it was one of the few that I managed to get through without too much difficulty.

@johnnzboy Agreed, the crocodile man is frightening and looks like something from John Carpenters Thing.

@DavidGraeberWasRight Yeah it's a hidden gem, worth seeking it out and I have a lot of time for the two authors. Must catch them at the FF fest some time!

My favourite gamebook. The beginning is original to some degree, and the quest makes sense. The only troubles I had was with the Red dragon, I had to took several attempts.

@PetrBouda-un9qo Yep a tough encounter for sure, how did you fair with Sword of the Samurai?

@ChrisHolley-k1v Well, to be honest, never played Sword of the Samurai back in the days as this was the last gamebook from the Fighting Fantasy series that should have been printed by the Perseus publishing before it went bankrupt (they published 40 of them). And I was not a huge fan to collect all of the Fighting fantasy gamebooks back then as I did with Lone Wolf series (which makes much sense as it was an actual series with a stronger hero).
I only read the Sword of the Samurai in PDF form two years ago, and I liked the rules - you have one of four special skills like dual wielding swords (which is somewhat rare, the first similar concept was in Appointment with F.E.A.R., where you can choose one of four superpowers), and an honor which is similar to fear in House of Hell. And the whole fantasy Japan setting is nice and a welcome difference from "generic" fantasy.
