    Pure curiosity; when you are reviewing these pro shoes, do you ever think “there is a better shoe for you”? I understand shoes are one of the most important pieces for pointe, so it may be offensive to a pro...so maybe you don’t suggest it... but so much goes into this process soo interesting

      this is 4 years later but if you are still wondering, principal dancers have been dancing for like 20+ years professionally and basically their whole life training. So in that time they have probably tried and been through so so many pointe shoes that they are very secure in how they want their shoes, what kind of shoes etc. So its very rare to find someone at that level to need a new kind of shoe (i've heard of dancers who retire if their shoe is discontinued too). I also don't think it would be offensive to try and get them in a new shoe, but they are at such a level of mastery that they know more about their feet and their needs than a fitter would. This is unlike dancers in training who are still exploring their needs or first starting en pointe, but even then, many dancers in training at a high level have a shoe they prefer and stick to.

    wow the budget people must love her... 2 months! She's over here doing everything possible to make them last while most company girls are driving mack trucks over them and tossing them after each act. =P

    Great video. I could not tell if the tips of her pointe shoes ribbon were burned or not ? When i was on pointe the tips had to be burned. I remember dancers using a lighter, and burning slightly the tip of the ribbon. I used clear nail polish to avoid the ribbon from coming apart, and it was safer than using a lighter.

      melisande balleste she uses stretchy ribbon, so I’m not sure. I use nail polish on mine as well because burning stretch ribbon doesn’t work well for me

      Rosie Posie thank you for your response. I am glad there’s a stretchy ribbon in my days which was late 80s options were limited in terms of shoe ribbons.

    Thought... You see so many ballerinas have the custom of cutting down the side but keeping the height of the heel... Why don’t the pointe shoe makers just make the shoes like that from the beginning instead, since it’s such a popular and common custom?

      I think it's because students don't want that. Plenty of students wear the same shoes as professionals. If the satin always came lower, the shoe would be more prone to slipping off the foot. Since not all studios allow rosin, (mine doesn't) the shoe would keep slipping off small heels. Most professionals have unlimited access to rosin. They can also use glue and sewing to keep on their shoes. Students can't glue their shoes to their heels every class. And if the satin was lower the drawstring is also lower, which means it might be uncomfortable for some people.

    Man, I really dig your channel, I think you're awesome and the information you give is so important for dancers. But you might have even better videos if they weren't so overexposed. The white totally washes out all the details that are so important. You might think about doing some cool super close ups. Just overall you're so professional and it's a shame that the production value of your videos doesn't equal your top level professional presentations. But even if your videos are a bit washed out, you're so great I'd still watch them!

    How can I get flexible ankles?

    • @virginiapearson6518
      @virginiapearson6518 5 років тому

      Stretching is the only way to get more flexible.

    • @sadiec4967
      @sadiec4967 5 років тому +1

      I have extremely flexible ankles and I wish they weren’t as flexible. I recommend doing strengthening along with stretching. Like when you do eleves through a song after sit down and roll through pointe until flex even with a Thera band!
