From the Vault: The Incredible Lightning Link

- It took absolutely no persuading to get Brownells Gun Techs™ Keith and Caleb to return to Rock Island Auction Co., and today Keith has..... a machine gun in his pocket. OK, not exactly. But he does have an SWD Ligtning Link Automatic Connector, an dirt-simple device that can turn your ordinary semi-automatic AR-15 into a machine gun, after the successful filing of your Form 1 and $200 check with the ATF. That was before May of 1986, when civilian manufacture of new machine guns became illegal. Just like complete machine guns, existing Lightning Links at the time were grandfathered, and their value has appreciated - to between $10,000 and $15,000. The equivalent value of a complete machine gun for a tiny device made of two pieces of ordinary sheet metal! The good news is a Lightning Link is the ATF-registered part and is not "married" to an individual AR-15. So if you have 10 AR-15s, you can shoot ANY one of them with your Lightning Link. But good luck finding one: only about 900 Lightning Links were made by SWD, Inc., and registered with the ATF. Which may explain why Rock Island's example sold for $18,400!

It wasn't intended as a _"you should pay to exercise your rights."_ He was stating that, under current statutory law, you have to pay the $200 tax and the premium that a registered machine gun has just for being registered. That is a statement of fact, not opinion. Too often, gun people can't see a difference between the way things should be and the way that they are now. I could freeze frame this video, screenshot the close ups, and make a template of this device that can be scaled to the size needed, and make one of these easy-peasy. With like, 2 screenshots. Now how the hell do the traitors - I mean ATF - intend to keep people from making these? As long as a photo exists, the item can be replicated, unlike an ACTUAL machine gun, which has dozens if not hundreds of parts, requires tooling and/or dies, and a healthy knowledge of mechanical engineering. This lightning link requires a 2D tracing and a few cuts with a Dremel.
How the hell can anyone sit there and say with a straight face that a glorified bottle opener is a machine gun?!
Then again, the only reason I don't make one is I couldn't afford the ammo to shoot full-auto even if I wanted to.
Some chad made a swift link out of the wire of a coat hanger on UA-cam. You also can’t forget about the shoestring machine gun.
If you look at a side view of the way it fits there is a very simple way to make a full auto without a add in part. Well, a add in part does away without the other add in part.

You demonstrated the link operation backwards. The paddle is not hit from the front pushing the link back. The paddle actually goes forward and pulls the link back. Small detail. But wither way at 15 16k these are sleeper nfa guns most economical machinegun in the registry. They are actually very durable and hold up well with a kns protector. Also they can be repaired if they break its no big deal. Also the number of registered links mentioned is a little low. I spoke with Wayne last year and I won't give the exact number but is greater than 1000 but less than 3000 he registered. Again great piece of NFA history and only way to have a modern machine gun. You can run a link in a hk 416 if you how. Drop in autostart and lightning link only way you can leagly have a fa 416. Link is half the cost.
Only a government employee could be stupid enough to consider that to be a machine gun!
With a secret ingredient called crime, you in fact, do not have to pay to play.
The biggest roadblock to abolishing the NFA will be the people that spent 40k on an MP40.
False. Please stop perpetuating this lie. 99.99% of people who own MGs would give their left nut to be able to buy and build new ones and could do so for pennies on the dollar if Hughes was repealed. MG ownership is for people who love the guns for what they are: shooters or collectors. Shooters would love to own new MGs they can't get now and collectors would love to get other historical guns that are currently being used/abused by shooters for cheaper.
MGs make shitty investments. Illiquid, highly regulated, and unless you registered hundreds of sears pre-86, you probably aren't making much money if you're entering the market at today's prices. You would have been better off putting your money in an index fund.
