Mechanical Fuel Injection carburetor for small engines (tested on predator 212)

  • Tired of cleaning your small engine carburetor and curious about mechanical fuel injection? No, this is not electronic fuel injection for a small engine. Far from it still! Looking for a boost in torque power for a small engine? Engine bogging down? The mods of a tillotson TCT carburetor tested here on a predator 212 non-hemi engine gives an instant torque performance increase in my 212cc engine and I'm looking to put it on my snow thrower and one in my stock appearing race go kart.
    There isn't much for small engine carburetor repair with this carb. It's a mechanical fuel injection carb for small engines such as lawn mower, snow blower, mini bike, go kart, rototiller, and several others. With so many people needing small engine carburetor cleaning this fuel injection alternative (not electronic - keep in mind) is a great little alternative. For some who may be doing a small engine rebuild of a non-working engine and need a new carb, This small carb doesn't need much adjustment at all with the mechanical fuel injection.
    HP stays the same, but this is a great predator 212 performance mod for starters getting into boosting their speed up in front of their buddies on off road go karts, or mini bikes. I'd check out a mikuni for some more serious push power, but this carb was a great fun and is going on one of my engine builds for sure. I bought 2, one is going on my snow thrower to give it a little more pushing power and torque for when the snow is thick.

    On my Predator mod snow thrower i would rather have the higher speed. I want to go faster and rarely have an issue with it bogging down. I will stay with my stock carb thanks. Nice job on the video. Very informative.....

    I do like the fact that you are building their your own Dino and such, but it would be really nice to get the torque and horsepower numbers together. Torque is very important but overlooked sometimes. I'm building a mud mini bike and would like to know torque values so that I'm able to get a good ratio of power and torque

    Nice info. Ideas for future videos if you have not already.
    Aftermarket camshafts - bottom end - mid range torque increase with that injection vs. Carb. Aftermarket head, w/ & without cam, pistons, injection ect. Then try fuel addives for power - marvel, E85, nitro ect. You probably got all those written down by now. Top o the day

    How does the tillotson TCT affect fuel consumption?

  • @hillwooky

    What is the actual model number of the carb in you video? It does not look like the ones that Go Power Sports sells. I bought the TCT from them and it has (TF-8A-6C 110 177) stamped on the side of the casting. At 0:05 on you video, your carb appears to have a brass inlet tube above the fuel line. What is that? Neither of the Tillotson "mechanical fuel injection" carbs that Go Power Sports sells have that brass tube. The only Tillotson carb that I can find on the internet that has that same brass fitting on the side is a "dual fuel" carb for a generator that can be used to meter propane.

      Not online, but i have done. The tct needs to be with it's proper "version" on a build. There is a version for stock exhaust, and a version for if using a header. They keep rpm low with bringing up torque so swapping to smaller gear makes an improvement for speed. With a header, stock carb goes faster than the original tct, but the tuned tct meant to be run with header has the edge over stock carb if using header. If you intend to further build the engine, the tct is limited. If planning on keeping governor in and getting the most from a small build with cvt the tct is great choice.

    How does it compare to a mikuni?

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 роки тому +1

      It can't, really. It has a very narrow venturi. Both can increase torque, but the mikuni can get gains in hp by raising RPM and sucks fuel. The tct can keep rpms lower while upping torque which is GREAT to keep rpms lower than a point where and engine could hit a failure point (stock flywheel and internals). However, if a mikuni is on the engine, you'll likely need to compensate other parts of the engine to prevent failure and get the most from the carb fuel delivery and increase in air as well.

    • @megoingfast

    Do you think this would be good for a mud motor?

    • @megoingfast
      @megoingfast  3 роки тому +1

      Really depends on pitch prop, diameter and other mods. The torque will be there, bringing back rpm, but changing props is your biggest gain on boats.

    • @kiawahman
      @kiawahman 2 роки тому +1

      Going to try the TCT on my Mud-Skipper Twister (with prop adapter and Tillotson 212e), it uses 2-blade aluminum long-tail props. More interested in torque than top speed, and not really interested in making recommended mods for higher rpm's than what the engine is initially designed for. After taking it out yesterday, I can say that bone-stock the Tillotson 212 is a stronger engine than the stock HF 212 hemi, (of which I've owned/run many). $40 is not much money for an adjustable carb.

    Calling this a "fuel injection" is simply wrong. It is a carburetor with enhanced atomization and the conveniance of not having to change the needles for a tun.
    How do i know it's not an injection? Well simple, you need either of two things, an electronic fuel pump and an ECU, or a mechanical connection to the crankshaft for the injection pump.

    • @nickopedia5669
      @nickopedia5669 3 роки тому +4

      you're forgetting one thing: diaphragms.
      I don't know if this specific carb does it as I know nothing about it, but some carbs (usually on 2 stroke boat motors) use diaphragms and the engine pulse to literally inject pulses of fuel into the intake, in addition to the fuel pump which is also driven by the intake pulses. Usually it helps deliver fuel while needing less of a venturi, and therefore less intake restriction at the high RPMs they see.
      This Tillotson one may or may not operate on the same principle, but it seems to have been executed poorly. The whole point should be less intake restriction, not more.

    • @toddwilson9453
      @toddwilson9453 3 роки тому +3

      Exactly right... this carb is neither "mechanical" nor "injected"... There is no mechanical apparatus that pressurizes the fuel, and the fuel is not injected... If you dig into the operation, it has a variable needle similar to a motorcycle carb... the advantage is the atomization of the fuel. Stock carburetors on these motors are the worst ever, and are easy to improve...
      NOT saying new one does not work or is not an improvement... Just saying that the term "mechanical injection" is very misleading...

      The PZ 19 equivalents, or the ones that are the same as other branded $10 carbs? 16100-ZH8-W61 and 16100-ZE3-V01? I purchased both of those listed just in case those are it. Had adjustable F/A and idle so looked good no matter what use to try out. Will be picking up a few more, but PZ 19 and PZ 20 is a pretty small carb where the slide control has been a pain to work with in the past when I did small engines.
