- Here is a compilation of Volkswagen V10 TDI exhausts found on VW Phaeton and VW Touareg. Sometimes V10 diesel tends to sound better than a petrol car. Which diesel car is your favorite?
The VW Touareg V10 TDI was, simply, one of the coolest cars ever made. Like, ever. Volkswagen superboss Ferdinand Piëch was in the midst of his obsessive goal to make the best cars in the history of the world, an era that gave us the 250 MPH Bugatti Veyron, the 260 mpg Volkswagen XL1, the W12 Phaeton and maybe-possibly-nearly the W12 supercar.

We love old powerful engine cars from the 60's all the way to the '90s from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and American Muscle cars.

I’ve got a remapped 2006 Touareg V10 and it’s a beast. 350 bhp, 600 lb/ft
That's R50 territory figures. I won't map my 2005 V10 (I pamper it anyway, to last). I think the Aisin transmission on R50s has a different torque rating (higher than the regular V10) which is probably software based. Don't over-push it or it'll break (the bank) on your hands.

@Andy Raposo Rubio Well I can categorically say that it's not an under-performing engine in the slightest. It won engine of the year when it was released, pulls 36 mpg on the highway (over 630 miles on a tank of diesel) has more torque than a Viper SRT-10, and I've raced a Subaru WRX in mine and he couldn't even get away until we passed 100 mph
@Andy Raposo Rubio I've put about 6000 miles on it so far over 9 months and the engine has never had any issues at all. It's mostly electrical stuff which will break if anything. The only major issue I had was the air suspension failed immediately after buying it, and the seller covered the cost of a new pump and air lines. Beyond that it's an excellent car. I've since owned a Maserati as well, and sold it in favour of the Touareg.

Where's the exhaust? I only see a dark smoke with an old V10 TDI engine who are vanished from German, Swiss or Austrian market.
Interesting and all but still wondering why VW was like "let's jam a w10 turbo diesel into a luxury saloon."
They also made a Q7 V12 TDI 😉, they used the same engine that won multiple races at Le Mans, 500 cp and a massive 1000 Nm if I remember correctly. I saw only one time in my life that SUV on the street, they are really rare. Those were the good old times when VW or VAG group had the money to do whatever they wanted, and so the Buggati was reborn, first batch without profit, but now they're making millions. Nowdays even Mercedes teams up with Renault in order to cut costs!
To make a name for themselves. Cuz why not? These are the same people who made the Veyron and Chiron and sold each car by losing millions on them, same with the phaeton.

Ok, so hearing diesels and gasolines on camera and in real life, I understand this, gas engines sound good, even on camera, Diesels in real, especially v6's or inline 6 sound better than gas engines, BUT, I don't know why, the camera doesn't really register the diesel sound, on canera you can only hear a turbo sounding like an vacuum cleaner, IDK WHY, but in reality diesels sound MUCH better

There are 4 facelifts. For you its maybe ugly but comparing it to few othee cars from 2002 its timeless. The more often u aee it in real life the more it grows on you and ofc shitty wheels will fuck up. America didnt get any of the facelifts. It was build until 2016.

Actually the V10 is not a part of the diesel gate. In the phaeton only the v6 tdi (2013-2015) was part of the diesel gate
