He's made a hybrid style between the new boxing orientated stance and his old kicking situation. The variety will do him well when it comes to his timing. Chandler can crack so I'm glad to see him more mobile compared to his last few fights. This footage has actually made me pretty excited for the fight. He looks sharp 👌🏽

I've always loved the uppercut combos he throws. He does seem slower now than he once was, but thats to be expected with aging and putting on more muscle. I hope he returns with a bang
The only problem I see is because of his bigger size, he's going to gas out even sooner now
Nothing to do with age

He will not be taking anyone down lol Compared to others in the 155, he's a bum when it comes to ground game.
That is cardio. Going that fast isn't really training technique, only reinforcing whatever form you have at full retard speed.
Even a Glimpse of the old style is sending Goosebumps.
I thought the same.. nice to see him using alot of kicks again.. i dont love how heavy forward he is with his head though. Its working with the head gear and big gloves but if he carrys that to the cage it could spell trouble
As long as he only fights pure strikers
We can see the OG McGregor!
But as soon as he verses a wrestler he ain’t doin those kicks
yah mans@@whereswaldo52561
@@whereswaldo52561 Dont worry i think he is experienced enough to know better and not doing the same in the cage
This definitely wasn’t a glimpse of his old style. This was 100% his new style. Standing taller instead of staying low and long, bobbing and weaving instead of distance control, nothing about this was similar to his old style at all.
I really wish he would go back to the old style of fighting; it used his strengths to his advantage much better than this modern boxing style he’s incorporated.
great to see Conor putting in the work.
Puttin in the wooouk
@@Charlestwrry2726keep it in your pants, brother
But I don't believe it that much tho cuz he was showing these thing ahed of second and third poirier fights
He's slowly putting in the work lol
Connor has always put the work in against lesser opponents. He loves beating up bums. It's against quality opposition that he has a problem against. I thought the guy he was sparring with was Brendan Loughnane for a second there but na, it's just some Irish bum that's easy work for Connor. He doesn't like to challenge himself by getting quality opposition into the gym, he just beats up bums to fuel his ego. Did the other fighter even land a single punch? This sparring partner is definitely not adequate to the level of opposition Connor will be facing in the cage. Still though, it's a step up from pensioners in a bar.
I love to see that Connor’s still got it, just the one thing that’s changed because of the boxing is that he seems a lot more flat footed now, if he’d go back to the in-and-out fencing style he used to fight with then I think he’d become champ again and he probably would have beat Diamond (of course excusing the ankle break as well)
Looks like he has been working on that calf kick defense. The single leg defense was nice too.
Damn I miss his traditional karate stance when he was in his prime
I think his body has changed too much go go back to it. Needs to be slimmer and more fluid/flexible
@@AbelR91 hes past his prime Karate stance wont do him any good when your physical prime isnt there anymore... certain things are better executed hen your mind and especially body are in top shape

I actually thought he didn’t look that good here… who knows I guess.
The blend and incorporation of all his new found styles looks promising, the tighter closer Thai stance to mitigate low kicks and takedowns, along with the TKD/karate bladed stance to throw the wild kicks and probing hand strikes
I hope he comes back, makes it (whatever that means) and retires well on top of his persona. I wish well to everyone
I hope he comes back and utilizes a full toolset. The guy can win the first 2-3 rounds against pretty much any lw with his own skillset. He just needs to make adjustments in that 3rd round so that he doesnt just give the round up if he's slowing down or if theyre figuring him out a bit. He's got to do like he did in the diaz fight. Add some clinch work in the 3rd and 4th and if youre up in the rounds they have to come to you

@@illmat1cI honestly believe people reinjure themselves more from hesitating due to having that injury opposed from just training regularly with proper recovery

Which one?
There was a couple times it looked like his leg was bothering him and then it looked almost like he was doing all those crazy movements to try and prove it wasn't bothering him which is you watch after he stops that takedown attempt he starts raising his knees almost to his chest and I think that's why cause his leg bothered him from hopping on just it backwards to stop the takedown.
I wonder how the leg will hold up - I don't know of any other athletes that would allow such impact to a support structure. I hope it is well.
That right hook to the body/left head kick was brilliant
Because the other guy was stood right in front of him doing nothing while he threw a 3 punch headkick combination. That would never happen in a real fight with no gear on in the UFC.

2:38 That lead uppercut into the straight was a nasty 2 piece combo 🔥
Guess incorporating more muay Thai was the only way to get around eating calf kicks all the time which fucked him up good against poirier..
Come to think of it, it's the logical thing to do... The bladed karate stance was really susceptible to calf kicks, so was the boxing stance heavy on the front foot. And since he already became more square with his boxing stance compared to the bladed stance, opening up even a bit more to a Thai stance in certain situations makes sense... He's not becoming a grappler, so protecting himself from too many low kicks can only come from checking or hip movement, especially now that he's not as fluid anymore... And teeping and roundhouse are already engrained in him anyway from his karate background, just smaller shifts from sidekick to front kick and hitting the roundhouse with the foot or the shin.
Looks good, happy he's throwing kicks and looks like he's working on checking thr low leg kicks, the competition has gotten so much better now, but hope he can still compete if he so chooses

That lead uppercut straight is money he’s been working on those body kicks as well
Good to see him like this! But he needs more teammates that put the heat on him...these lads show too much respect to give him proper pressure
What do I know but I think the boxing stance doesn’t help is natural movement compared to when he had a side ways stance he looked a lot more fluid with the karate stance and another think I notice he doesn’t use his legs as much as he used to
Wishing him the best I love watching sparring and msn Connor is looking alot more fluid . Not like the old Connor but this is promising 🙌

Glimpse of failure
Can't wait to see Conor's comeback. Many are underestimating him now, but he'll always remain an extremely high level fighter.
when was his last win though... underestimateling or just stating facts? He's not the Eddie Alvarez Conor at LW with his in and out darting style. He's bigger, stays in the same positions, waits for counters instead of driving the counters by feints and punches... he's simply a different version from when he won Gold. Nothing bad about it, it's not underestimating, it's just reality. Do not forget he broke his freaking tib so definitely changes mentally have occurred too...
I agree, hes really high level fighter but not one of the best anymore
Extremely overrated
Extremely high level fighter for 7 minutes, unfortunately against Poirier he couldn't even win the first round and he was more or less finished from the moment he got taken down toward the end of the round. At the time he's meant to be his most effective Poirier still beat him, over 3+ rounds he has nothing for the elites.

Two things - 1 I know this is only sparring and 2 I’m a McGregor fan but I’m not sure we’ll see him fight again even if it’s announced and if we do I can’t see him winning. His old style was gold. The karate stance, piston like right handed jab and straight left that followed, light on the balls of his feet bouncing around and moving. Now he just looks so heavy and rigid, heavy on that lead leg, slow, no fluidity, not to mention he hasn’t been an active UFC fighter since 2016 which will be 8 years ago soon. Miss the old Mystic Mac 😢
0:28 imagine Conor vs Gaethje with that exchange??
That left hand is deadly, he has that crazy power still, it's just such a shame his ground game wasn't up to the same standard
Conor’s ground game is still really good
his ground level was actually pretty top notch for a striker - did surprisely well against khabib when most of his previous opponents got ragdolled on the ground by him. anyone will look like an ameteur when against a top level wrestler like khabib
Such a poor casuals take
People are mistaken he’s ground games elite
His ground game is no weaker than his standup - he is excellent at both it's just there are people better at both at the very top level these days.
Oblique kicks in sparring 💀
Fr, why he throwing spinning kicks and head kicks too? Clearly an ego spar
0:27 men i fucking love that punch, i keep on putting on repeat
I think Conor’s hands look so much better now since his poirer fights in 21 ! Re watching the second fight conor was doing well with his hands. The leg kicks were money for poirer and his hands started landing clean from there. Good tonsee conor checking the leg kicks. Don’t know if we will see him fight again though
You can clearly see he’s holding back. He doesn’t want to hurt the sparring partners, and is actually respectful of them. Too many people go into those sparring wars which aren’t good for anyone (of course there are times for hard spars).
That’s why he’s not THAT fast… as with more speed usually comes more power/more chance to hurt someone.
Not sure about you guys, but I’m hella excited to see him come back! He’s clearly having fun with it and is driven to come back and make it happen!
We might see another legendary run!
Maybe not the same run but i hope to get a few more legendary wins before he retires.
Lol! Definitely holding back with those headkicks, a knee stomp/oblique kick and throwing hayemakers vs semi pros and dropping somebody with 16oz gloves on, those headkicks would drop you if you didn't block it. What is it with the cope in all the comments, just say the truth you don't need to lie. Only thing holding him back was the fatigue from rounds of sparring if we're going to be objective.
Your speed comment was just... moronic. What more do you want from him? Sprinting at the opponent? He was teep kicking, head kicking, body kicking, and throwing his left hand as quick as he could with 16oz gloves on and some fatigue.
@@Disinfo321 None of these guys are semi pros, you don't get flown out to Dubai for a training camp if you're just some guy. Also the only bad sparring etiquette was the oblique kick he apologised for. The headkicks were clearly pulled (not to mention he has shin pads on) and the only reason your man got dropped was because he threw a naked leg kick and dove into a straight punch with his chin in the air. Compared to the videos of other pros (Strickland, Cerrone...) actually flatlining guys at a local gym this is pretty damn tame.

Question for anyone who actually actively trains MMA. 1st let me add that I have watched MMA pretty religiously since around 2003, & I am very knowledgeable on the different disciplines, fighters, & techniques. I have been in more than a few street fights & i add all this for the reason not asking some other guy who watches MMA on i am more knowledgeable about it than most other fans who dont practice it. I want a actual fighter to answer if possible. The question is, watching these sparring vids & others of Conor & other fighters as well why do they spar with the big gloves, i know you arent trying to KO sparring partners nor do you want to risk a hand break but sparring with boxing gloves constantly seems like it would lead to bad habits in an actual MMA fight as multiple times i watched the fighters hide there faces behind their gloves for defense like in boxing, but that wont help you in MMA with the smaller gloves. Do you usually try to spar with the big protective gloves & just try to not let defensive boxing habits creep in & focus on head movements & angles or what? Rampage has a good MMA/boxing hybrid version of it to me with his tuck & roll that he defends with & returns fire with hooks. I witnessed Conor use a type of the boxing glove cover up in his MMA fights against Diaz 2 second time they fought)& Poirer 2 (second time they fought) kind of a modified rope-a-dope but those were honeslty 2 of his less impressive performances. He was great with the subtle slides JUST out of way & angles & head movement more karate 1st then boxing oriented at his peak now lately he seems like boxing 1st then then a little muy thai oriented. So why use those gloves &/or spar that way if you wont have 12oz gloves to hide behind on fight night is what i an asking? Is this ALWAYS the norm? Do coaches ever point it out like "you do that with MMA gloves & your going to get hit" or something?
Only thing I worry about is that he’ll never have the same pop in that left hand. Iv broken my left ankle and it’s never been the same since. Probably 75 percent normal

@@combatsportsculture6469 Alex Pereira is HEAVY on his lead-leg yet it isn't a problem for him at all, now is it? Because that has nothing to do with it. As long as you are reacting to the low-kicks, plus reacting to them correctly that's the main thing. Be realistic, most fighters are front-foot forward fighters, very FEW humans can actually fight off of the back-foot. Yet, not all of them get obliterated by low-kicks so it's clearly not just about the stance or weight-balance. It is about your vision to see them coming, your timing to react to them in time, & your technique to react to them correctly, are the real determining factors above all else for defending low-kicks.
You're just reserved because you seen McGregor get stopped by low-kicks before so of course you're naturally gonna assume the worst subconsciously & be looking for that weakness again moreso now, which is justified, I get it, but it's not the case because he has clearly adjusted to them & he already proved that in the 3rd Poirier fight, now he looks even sharper at reacting to low-kicks so i'm happy for him. I see great improvement here, not "holes" or weaknesses. He even baited a few of those low-kicks then countered them immediately so if his opponents underestimate his low-kick defense & take the bait then they might get KO'd in the process if they truly believe he's unprepared for low-kicks because he will counter them, as he is fully aware now unlike before. McGregor is a great counter-striker & he's great at setting fighters up, he's great at "playing the game" meaning he is great at letting you think you are doing well then blasting you up out of there with 1 big counterstrike, that's why he gets guys to go first and throw at him in the 1st place even when they know he is an aggressive counter-striker, because they think they are doing well plus they think they will land otherwise they would not take the bait if they knew it was bait but most fighters do not understand when they are being set-up. Period. These things matter way more than just your stance or weight-positioning. There is so much more nuance to this game. There is so much more beneath the surface. There is so much more beyond what the naked eye can visually see or perceive 💯 That's why the old saying goes "only believe HALF of what you see, and NONE of what you hear" 💯
@@Capital2x my man, good in depth assessment.
I got to respectfully oppose you on the pereira example, it’s not a good comparison. Simply because they have vastly different styles, also Alex pereira does not fight front foot heavy. As I’m sure you probably know, he comes from a traditional kickboxing background, he stands pretty upright, light on his feet. What makes him so effective besides his obvious experience in kickboxing is the fact he doesn’t load up often. It’s very hard to see his kicks coming because he doesn’t tend to load up also he doesn’t turn his kicks over.. he makes this work so well for him because he has exceptional power, and very little telegraphing.
Conor did not used to be so front foot heavy, that seemed to have changed after the Floyd fight (rightfully so) why? Because it’s very effective to fight this way in boxing. Because body position, head movement, and foot placement is so critical.
Conor is clearly not as effective in mma with this style, and there’s a reason for it..
what made Conor so good was like you said his ability to counter guys, but not from lulling them or making them “feel safe.”
It was his ability to time them… his perception of distance was second to none this combined with his feints and timing along with relentless pressure were what made him so good in his prime when he was running through everyone.
Fighting heavy on your lead foot negates all this… you can’t be light on your feet you become “stuck in the mud” as he would say, you’re in a different position compromising your in and out footwork therefore compromising your distance/range management, leaving you no choice but to block, catch (or counter) (which can absolutely be effective if that’s your game, the more square kickboxing approach) but that’s not what made Conor great.. it was his ability to press forward, move in and out and use his exceptional perception of distance and timing to his advantage. That’s what he was so dam good at. Style wise Think like the difference between wonderboy and chito Vera… the wonderboy in and out style just suited Conor better… it complimented his attributes and maximized their advantage.
Now absolutely NOT to say he can’t move forward and adapt to this style and find success with it and make it work… it’s just a head scratcher because it’s almost like he’s trying to adjust his mma style to adapt to his time in boxing. When what he was doing in mma was working so well, he didn’t need to make any changes aside from just getting better at grappling. His stand up needed no adjustments.
Of course this my opinion based off of my own knowledge. So there’s of course room for debate, everyone’s going to have their own opinion. And I don’t mind having knowledgeable discussion about it with people such as yourself, who know what they’re looking at, let alone talking about. It’s interesting to hear other insights and opinions.
Thankyou for your response 💯
I see stifness and weakness in that division 😂😂😂
0:27 slips the right and counters with a lead upercut and a left . beautifull
I love the fact he's using that teep kick again that used to be a very effective weapon
Can't wait for Chandler's fight, its gonna be entertaining for sure whatever happens.
This is not real mma even his training partners are yes men that give conor the sparring that makes him feel like karate kid .the lil twinkle toe move he was doing to go forward is HILARIOUS ...😅😂 what a character this dude is ...
You’ve obviously never done any martial arts the sparring partner is throwing back but McGregor has great distance management he always has, mix ups are great but sure you give advice sitting on your sofa after you shift at tesco
I was thinking that if he hired killers to train with this would be so different
@@joeslowgon4096 yeah there throwing back a lil bit , they have to.make conor think hes that good lmao... if you think his sparring partners are kilkers but his skill is just that good your delusional,, hes like 30lbs bigger than these guys and it looks like theyre doing a defensive drill n only allowed one kick and jab at a time gtfoh 😆🤣
1:36-1:42 beyond glad to see that amount of athleticism after the injury. ☘️🍻
This is why Randy couture was so good. He used to mix it up very well and his game plans were on point. Connor’s needs to change his approach. Everyone knows he has a slip semi-upper then two.
