Many thanks for capturing and sharing this wonderful story. Very inspirational from many perspectives (sport, culture, friendship, adventure, ...) - world class...
I motorcycled through Laos back in 2018 and this video brings back absolutely great memories of the country, I even recognized local shops I went to during my trip :D
Been traveling quite a lot with my bicycle the past few years (not at the same pace though hahaha) and I'm considering training for a BikingMan next summer... Thanks for the great vibes, keep riding ♥

Mad respect to all those who completed the race, those conditions looked brutal! Would love to see how the likes of Mark Beaumont, James Hayden or even Josh Ibbett would get on.
:-) maybe we'll see some mad machines joining 2020?
So tough.. amazing
Thanks for posting this video. It was really great to see the racers but also the scenery and culture. But what happened to the couple....?

I'm not knocking the incredible effort they seem to be putting in but why is this technically being called "bikepacking"? I don't see any camping happening, one guy around the 14 minute mark is saying he's going back to the hotel....
Hello, bikepacking refers to many practices including the one to travel afar on a bicycle with the minimum equipment, and not necessarily with a tent. If you listen carefully to the testimonial of the participant heading back to the checkpoint hotel station, he was planning to withdraw from the race. On a side note: wild camping in Laos isn't' something you want to consider too quickly as the the fauna can get really, really wild.
@@BikingMan Ah I see so he was only using a hotel because he was retiring? So how self-sufficient are they? They carry tools & spares obviously, they eat where they can at the roadside, but what about sleeping? It's a multi-day race isn't it?
they carry everything to repair their bikes, some are sleeping on the side of the road, some aren't, some are sleeping in guest houses. The races are completed between 48 to 120 hours.
A bit of translation would be nice.
Hello Stormrider, the film is subtitled in english, french and spanish? Have you activated the subtitles?
Marcus Leach must have been overlapping wheels for a cyclist to move over and derailleur go into his spokes. First rule of riding in a bunch, or around others. Don’t overlap wheels. But still mistakes will happen. We all make them.
1st rule of being a big dude - ride with more than 24 spokes.
1st rule of self supported bikepacking - carry spare spokes
nothing worse than having the rug pulled from under you, but you can prepare for these eventualities
@@granddolph yeah that dude gotta learn some stuff, man up, stop crying
