    Random fact about bats. If you didn’t know, bats have a special tendon that allows them to lock their toes in place and allow their muscles to relax while hanging. Bats can die while hanging upside down and will remain in that position after death until dislodged.

    In this mine, they must have found lots of ore, to make that big cavern. Not bad for a smaller operation. Thanks. Really liked this one.

    Great videos you have and thank you for sharing them. For those that may know who Giant Gelodyn was, Giant Gelodyn was a brand of high explosive manufactured by the Giant Powder Company, a prominent explosives manufacturer in the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was a type of gelatin dynamite, a powerful explosive made by mixing nitroglycerin with cellulose nitrate. Giant Gelodyn was known for its strength and reliability, making it a popular choice among explosives users. However, like other explosives, it was also dangerous and required careful handling and storage. The Giant Powder Company, the manufacturer of Giant Gelodyn, was founded in 1867 and went out of business in 1920. So, this may help you to figure out the time frame of this mine. I doubt the mine was being mined in the 1940, since screw-on drill bits were also available for mining around the 1920s during the time of Giant Gelodyn. While the design and materials of drill bits have evolved over the years, the basic concept of a screw-on bit has remained consistent. This type of bit allows for easy attachment and replacement, making it a practical choice for mining operations. The strangest part that I cannot figure out unless someone has been there before is the egg Carton. Idaho Egg Producers, which is part of the larger Idaho egg industry, began operations in the late 1990s. Specifically, it was established in 1999 when several egg producers came together to form a cooperative aimed at optimizing production, marketing, and distribution of eggs.

    33:30 and thereabouts, Atlas/Giant Gelodyn is a newer product (compared to other finds) and would be 1936 onwards, though I think what you have there is 1950's trademark.

    Working in construction many many years ago and hanging off the sides of buildings on swing stages , we of course had steel cables for the stage to go up and down the buildings we also used hemp rope prior to the nylon ropes created for safety ropes, In the more modern era of the hemp rope you could reverse twist the rope and the rope manufacturers used a dye. If the rope dye was green meaning it was still safe to use, If it was red it meant do not use it. Moisture and mold would permanently change the color and if OSHA inspected your rigs and found a red dye you were going to be in a lot of trouble with them and also to your personal safety. If you see a hemp rope in a mine you might want to see if the same applies. Great video, thanks

    In regard to the bats over in the states, isn't there always a fear of rabies? in the movie Cujo they were portrayed as being aggressive and attacked, is that real or over dramatized?

    • @danhalen4231
      @danhalen4231 Місяць тому

      I’d say overdramatized. Most wild animals don’t want to be bothered and will try to run before attacking. Like most wild animals if you continually provoke, they will attack.

    You should be much more cautious around bats, as they have a relatively high risk of carrying rabies. Rabid bats are reported in every US state and around 5% of all bats tested are positive. The main risk with bats is that you may not know that you have been exposed. They flap and fly around, and can easily bump into you and leave a tiny bite without you really noticing. With so many other hazards in abandoned mines, it would be really unfortunate to be infected with rabies when you could have avoided it.
