Random fact about bats. If you didn’t know, bats have a special tendon that allows them to lock their toes in place and allow their muscles to relax while hanging. Bats can die while hanging upside down and will remain in that position after death until dislodged.
I'm glad you're not a one man band anymore Gly. Tell Laura THANKS for helping make the channel even better. I'm so glad the community is growing. You need another million subscribers. It's only fair for content this great.
Hi from uk guys👋👍 wow I could not help notice if freeze frame at 10:20 looks like a soul trapped in face of wall 😱 you guys take and thank you for sharing your experiences with us all 👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍 👋
Tremendous amts. of White Quartz in that 1st. mine/adet. So great to see! You two are really thourough as you move through an adet. You explain things, objects, & how the mine was developed. We love it!!
Gly and Laura, Thank you for letting me hang out with you both for a bit each week. Look at that scenery. They always say, location, location, location. What a beautiful location. I really and truly appreciate the videos.
As a fellow content creator, I can agree and emphasize enough the amount of editing it takes to have relatable and interesting videos. Thank you Gly and Laura for the extra work that most dont see.
He G & L that's great news about all the new subs. I am excited to hear that. It's a soda here in California too. Though I have heard people refer to a soda as Coke even if it's other flavors.
We appreciate your knowledge and I've decided I'm not trying out to become a miner. Watching what was left behind is incredible each time you both show us.
Congrats, Gly & Laura for another great exploration!! At 45:43, exceptional discovery of the IDAHO BEST egg container. The round Emblem between the IDAH BEST should stand for the O in IDAHO!! But I’m sure y’all already know that. Being able to see the Eye-Bolts in their work-positions in the rock is another great bonus!!
Great video/adventure, thank you. For a future Q&A can you please share how to tell the difference between a Collapse, and a section being Back filled? To us lay people, watching on video, sometimes the rocks seem the same. Thank you
Gelodyn based off what I could find it's a gelatin type explosive there's several online although there fairly hard to read but it looks like it's from a Atlas company
Great videos you have and thank you for sharing them. For those that may know who Giant Gelodyn was, Giant Gelodyn was a brand of high explosive manufactured by the Giant Powder Company, a prominent explosives manufacturer in the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was a type of gelatin dynamite, a powerful explosive made by mixing nitroglycerin with cellulose nitrate. Giant Gelodyn was known for its strength and reliability, making it a popular choice among explosives users. However, like other explosives, it was also dangerous and required careful handling and storage. The Giant Powder Company, the manufacturer of Giant Gelodyn, was founded in 1867 and went out of business in 1920. So, this may help you to figure out the time frame of this mine. I doubt the mine was being mined in the 1940, since screw-on drill bits were also available for mining around the 1920s during the time of Giant Gelodyn. While the design and materials of drill bits have evolved over the years, the basic concept of a screw-on bit has remained consistent. This type of bit allows for easy attachment and replacement, making it a practical choice for mining operations. The strangest part that I cannot figure out unless someone has been there before is the egg Carton. Idaho Egg Producers, which is part of the larger Idaho egg industry, began operations in the late 1990s. Specifically, it was established in 1999 when several egg producers came together to form a cooperative aimed at optimizing production, marketing, and distribution of eggs.
Tuggers are attached to slushers, the eye hooks were used for points to attach a pully so the slusher cable has freedom of movement 🏔️⛏️ stay safe you two!
33:30 and thereabouts, Atlas/Giant Gelodyn is a newer product (compared to other finds) and would be 1936 onwards, though I think what you have there is 1950's trademark.
Working in construction many many years ago and hanging off the sides of buildings on swing stages , we of course had steel cables for the stage to go up and down the buildings we also used hemp rope prior to the nylon ropes created for safety ropes, In the more modern era of the hemp rope you could reverse twist the rope and the rope manufacturers used a dye. If the rope dye was green meaning it was still safe to use, If it was red it meant do not use it. Moisture and mold would permanently change the color and if OSHA inspected your rigs and found a red dye you were going to be in a lot of trouble with them and also to your personal safety. If you see a hemp rope in a mine you might want to see if the same applies. Great video, thanks
Vertical shaft originating from below is a "rise". I worked in the Bisbee mines during the summers between school sessions. Those miners who making rises were paid more than us regular stope miners. Falling rock was always a threat.
In the 80s a guy at work was always goofing around with me on a job. It got odd so I'm king around here right. There was a big gulp coke cup(southern) with 50 flies I caught them and said look in the cup.! They all flew in his face and up his nose and he slacked up joking around.
Pew Pew? 😆You mean side arm? Can’t you say side arm on UA-cam? How about “hand me my piece Laura” is that legal? How about “hand me my Smith/Glock/Ruger” etc? When people say pew pew I think of a childs response around an outhouse 🙄 lol. Cool episode though as always.
I got hit in the face one night taking the garbage bin down to the road in the dark by a bat nasty feeling wings flapping on my face its a steep hill with bushes on one side 😮😮
In regard to the bats over in the states, isn't there always a fear of rabies? in the movie Cujo they were portrayed as being aggressive and attacked, is that real or over dramatized?
I’d say overdramatized. Most wild animals don’t want to be bothered and will try to run before attacking. Like most wild animals if you continually provoke, they will attack.
You should be much more cautious around bats, as they have a relatively high risk of carrying rabies. Rabid bats are reported in every US state and around 5% of all bats tested are positive. The main risk with bats is that you may not know that you have been exposed. They flap and fly around, and can easily bump into you and leave a tiny bite without you really noticing. With so many other hazards in abandoned mines, it would be really unfortunate to be infected with rabies when you could have avoided it.
Random fact about bats. If you didn’t know, bats have a special tendon that allows them to lock their toes in place and allow their muscles to relax while hanging. Bats can die while hanging upside down and will remain in that position after death until dislodged.
Interesting! I now understand why some cave researchers have found mummified bats still hanging from the ceiling.
In this mine, they must have found lots of ore, to make that big cavern. Not bad for a smaller operation. Thanks. Really liked this one.
Really glad to see you two exploring together. You are so lucky to have each other.

Glad your legs didn't give out. Looked like arduous climbing. I enjoyed the beauty of the day! Thanks again, stay safe!
The egg box!
For square eggs where the contents were packed in a square plastic cube...true! 1949
Giant Gelodyn, from the Atlas Powder Company, circa 1950.
We appreciate your knowledge and I've decided I'm not trying out to become a miner. Watching what was left behind is incredible each time you both show us.
I'm from Pittsburgh and it was always pop. On vacation in Atlantic City NJ, it was soda.
You guys work well together. Awesome content! 🎉

Thanks y'all I'll never eat pancake syrup again 😂
It’s pop in West Yorkshire too!
It's Coke in North Texas
Thanks for another cool adventure!
Why can’t it be waffle syrup? Or French toast syrup? 😆
Great Job !! Don't Eat The Molasses !!
Thanks for sharing from Australia stay safe good luck

Giant gelodyn is from around 1950
With the ore bin that high on the hill would they have a shoot to allow the ore to go to the trucks or a type of tramm system to be able to transport
Seen the size and height of that lower tunnel (haulage), they might have used mules or horses to pull carts?
I'm a hopeless romantic... "... where are the hands that dug the mines? What are their stories? Etc... etc... etc..." LOL!
Gly it's coke in the southeast but here in eastern Kentucky where i live it's pop and always has been but I can't speak for the states around me.
Dangly bats don’t bother me cept when the T.P roll is empty ! 🤦♂️ 🤪
✌️🤙

In Ohio we call it Pop. Lol
Soda pop
I like bats too…they have very important role in the ecology
you should bottle and sell the pack rat juice.
gly whats the most scary moment you have had in a mine ??
ratlle snakes , earthquakes ect
Was most of the blasting done with burning fuse versus electric wiring and timing?
Coke is a stereotype. Lived in Mn most of my life and we called it a pop.
What were they mining there ? What caliber is your pew pew and make ?
Vertical shaft originating from below is a "rise". I worked in the Bisbee mines during the summers between school sessions. Those miners who making rises were paid more than us regular stope miners. Falling rock was always a threat.
Atlas powder co, 1950
It’s POPCANS IN CANADA…BC ANYWAY

Was Gly swimming in pack rat goo
Laura is the reason for your new subscribers im gonna guess
I wish you guys could drag me along with you some time. If you didn’t show it I would not know it.
Thank you, be safe!
Killer!!!
I want to apologize for making a mistake of calling the Eye-Hook by the name of Eye-Bolt in my earlier Comments..
Giant Gelodyn, probably a brand name thing pronounced "Jello dine"
If one didn't know better they might think that "Guano" was a sophisticated brand of wine!
25:30 You guys are gonna wake up the Balrog!
I got hit in the face one night taking the garbage bin down to the road in the dark by a bat nasty feeling wings flapping on my face its a steep hill with bushes on one side 😮😮
Does 30' ahead of you give size perspective or just enough headstart when the mountain lion pops his head up 😂

It's pop in Indiana LOL
"No body parts".......nearly spit out my brandy.

I was getting mad at you not taking your pack! Not safe and you knew it! Remember folks learn a lot from you.
A one man show, huh? You owe Laura and your loyal supporters an apology.
Gly you are a wealth of information but you comedy sucks , not a fan .
The comedic side of Gly seem to show more when he was exploring with Mr. M.
explosive jello. Gel-o-dyne. nom nom
I wish you guys could drag me along with you some time. If you didn’t show it I would not know it.
Thank you, be safe!
Same here, 'cept I'm too old, but I could sit in the shade outside and wait for you two to come back out of the mine, ha
