    Damn that H3000 is packed! Lexicons have plenty of breathing room! But oh boy is this cool, I've watched a couple of repair videos of spx90 and pcm70 (the channel was bradthx, useful info on repairing and troubleshooting 80's rack gear), but opening rack gear and working with it is super scarce! Even guitar demos/playthroughs.
    People who have some knowledge of electricity/digital stuff and diy spirit, as well as being able to afford this classic gear are few and far between, and even less people who are willing or able to make videos! This is really gonna be a treasure chest of a channel over time. If you're a judoka as well, did judo for a couple of years at the start of the uni! I'm pretty sure you're gonna be one of the top channels to watch with a daily cup of coffee.

      You are 100% correct. Not much content upgrading and repairing. Someone has to lead the way. Not sure it is me but I will do my best.

    Thanks for making this video! Would've been nice to see you reposition those jumpers but I read your comment below on how you tried filming it but it didn't really work out. Looking forward to more from your channel. :)

    Nice video and cool upgrade. Well done.
    I have an H3000 (owned since around 1989) and I need to replace Cap C68 (1uf Cap). The original Cap burnt when turning the unit on after in storage for a while.
    This cap is according to the schematic used in the +18v Power supply. I am going to solder in a new Tantalum Cap, but concerned whether the cap failed on it's own or some other component may have failed causing the cap to fry. Thanks.
    Phil

    Hi! I am the originator of this upgrade (I am not the seller who sold you this, though). It is a mix of several official upgrades which in the end did not work properly. Some of the presets make the machine slow down, for example Press the program button, type 320 and press enter, press program button again, now turning main dial going from preset 320 down to 260 at moderate speed. Watch what happens once it reaches 300 area. Mine slows down suddenly at 300 and below! If someone figured out how to solve this problem please share here. I suspect the EPROMS need to be some other speed or some specific speed.

    I have the exact same box, old yellow soft keys (upgraded to kitchen sink,via Burbank, Ca) but have no idea how to connect it to my Apollo Twin X interface, do I need a mixer due to the xlr only outs? I am aware of the xlr cable reconfiguration
    No patch bay since I only own this one outboard
    Any help?

      To make it work in my guitar rig I bought some XLR to 1/4" adapters. Seems to work great. Here is an example

      @@michaeltoren cool so you didn’t have to change the xlr wiring? I read that Eventide uses a different hot-neutral-ground wiring

    Have you tweaked the #519 “MicroPitch” (actually the Multi-Shift algorithm, I think) to the Michael Thompson long modulated delay yet?

    I got my first black faced yellow soft key unit from a touring 80s act
    (three number serial)
    so it has seen some hard times so I sent it out to Dave at Studio Electronics in Pasadena for the Kitchen Sink upgrade
    But here I am 6 years later and still haven’t plugged it in
    I need the XLR cable mod info and more time would be nice
    As I think the hot and the neutral are swapped or something
    And then what?
    It’s old school xlr
    How do I connect this Beastie to my Apollo interface?
    Or do I need a patch bay or a mixer
    Help a brother out
    😱

    Hi Michael, do you know if there is a difference in sound to the different H3000's? like the H3000S, SE, D/SE, D/SX even if they are upgraded? it's so awesome that you have a channel! can't wait for more video's

    • @michaeltoren
      @michaeltoren  3 роки тому

      My gut feeling is that there wouldn't be a sound difference between the different models but I haven't compared. I would think Eventide would have standardized the boards in the units for cost reasons and made the differences in the memory chips.

    Well, I kinda would've appreciated to see how you scraped off the jumper and soldered the other jumper. Everything else is pretty self-explanatory from the instructions.

    • @michaeltoren
      @michaeltoren  2 роки тому +1

      I actually filmed the process but during editing found that most of the footage was the back of my hands. Unfortunately none it was usable for the video.

      @@michaeltoren Appreciate your reply! I can see how that could be a challenge to film. I did succeed scraping off the jumper with a small round file from a hobby kit I bought at Home Depot, and putting a dab of solder between the exposed solder points. I didn't film it either but just sharing what tools I've used that worked for me. Thanks again for sharing your process!

    I think your chip placement is wrong. That’s why the presets jumped from 200 to 500. I just did the upgrade myself and the order of the 2-4 chips is reversed. Counting up starting at the bottom.
    Check the documentation. Luckily it looks like it didn’t damage anything.
