Peak Disney right here. If I knew the 90s were going to be some of the best years of my life... I would've really tried to make it last and savor those years to the max.
Easily one of the best old-skool shows with the best opening theme song 💯💯 My brother and sister watched this through childhood, I never did. But after watching I think maybe 3 episodes or so, I liked it too. I get a vibe to wear FUBU clothing, a bucket hat, and a pair of cool Chuck Taylors from sum'n like it. Man, the nostalgia is just heavy. That was how dope the '90s was.
Same here I remember I used to always watch this Show back in the day as a Kid that it’s really sad they put it on TV on Disney Channel anymore nor make actual Good & Great Cartoon Shows anymore like they used to back then in the 90s & 20s & just may never happen like that again sad unfortunately 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭
They cut out all the non-episode footage and replaced it with footage from other episodes and basically used the second OP. The Pistol jumping on Pete's belly is a completely different episode than the one that was ultimately used. I wonder if the non-episode footage was due to copyright issues? Now I wonder what the TaleSpin iTunes intro looks like since half of the intro is non-episode footage animated by Sam Cornell Studios with episode footage spliced in.
Of course it wasn't copyright issues, Disney owns this show 100%. The real reason is almost certainly that the footage animated exclusively for the intro has not been preserved on film (whereas the episode portions have), and as such they can't remaster the intro-exclusive footage in true HD. That's obviously also the reason why they re-animated the title card shot. In my opinion, a much better solution for the intro sequence would have been to take the highest quality NTSC master tapes they have of it and do an advanced upscaling/remaster to HD of the missing shots. It should be doable since, as far as I know, that's how the entire HD remastering of "Rescue Rangers" has been done (a true remastering from film elements would show more grain, to mention one thing).
A funny thing I recently found out watching the series on my DVD collection of it is that most of the clips used for the intro (and all variants of it) come from a single episode: Episode #5 - You Camp Take It With You The shot of Goofy waving while at the front door of his house, with a plunger stuck to his face. Max and PJ together fist-pumping during a side hug and yelling “Yes!” at the window of their treehouse, a telescope mounted on the railing next to them. A shot of Max centered in a window recovering for an enthusiastic yell by lower his head and closing his mouth. This shot in the intro is synched to a low-pitched “yeah” from the artists singing the theme of the show. A shot of Goofy and Max trying to drive down a dangerous winding road, Max having to steer while Goofy tries to reattach the trailer of their jeep, the vehicle knocking off the guardrails of the road. This is immediately followed by the later shot of Goofy being thrown through the air when Max has to stop the jeep, with Goofy landing upside down through the skylight of the jeep in the passenger seat, sitting up after successfully reattaching the trailer. A diagonally panning up and left camera shot of Max looking through a telescope from the treehouse he and PJ hang out in. The sequence of Goofy accidentally getting himself tangled up in the extending tent poles for the tent he was trying to set up for Max and himself, eventually falling into a large sack and getting further tied up. The shot of Goofy (obviously following on from being tangled by tent poles and the sack) stuck by his shirt sleeves, being carried up into the air by the inadvertent glider the poles and torn sack have turned into as a result of his struggling with the poles and getting caught in the sake. A shot of Max and PJ giving each other a big arm-wheeling high five while both they and their fathers behind them are wearing camping clothes and gear. The shot of Goofy giving Pete a sideways hug (the latter looking annoyed and unsure), ending with Goofy squeezing Pete’s shoulder a little too hard to the point that his arm slips up and squeezes Pete’s face into a headlock, all while Goofy is distracted by imagining what a fun experience camping would be. A slowly panning shot of Goofy bouncing and rolling on a large boulder, which briefly hangs going over the edge of a cliff, Goofy realizing what is about to happen as he clings to the top of it just before it drops. The shot of Goofy’s face close up, him saying “Gawrsh” as the camera rotates around upside down while looking at him, cutting to a wider shot showing Goofy (in his fisherman outfit) hung upside down by a rope tying him to the branch of a tree, making a shoulder shrug. The shot of Goofy (again wearing his fisherman outfit) catching Pete by a sash he is wearing, preventing him from falling off a cliff, while Pete is wearing a military style outfit and hurting from a bear trap that has closed on his rear end. The shot of Goofy holding up a match (wearing his fisherman outfit), lifting and cupping his hand to call out to Max to come over for a campfire dinner.
Probably best if it doesn't. Quite a few shows from the 90s that got brought back didn't do so well. Animaniacs is one example. I never got to see it since I don't have Hulu, but I heard the show got "woke".

@Missthegoodays That's about the only way to do it now these days. Watching re-runs is pretty much the best thing we can do. The shows that ruled television in the 90s need to stay there because they aren't meant for today's modern audiences. Reboots pretty much fail nearly every time.
This song got me punched in this face in elementary school.
