  • How to use Casting Lures | Popper | Floating Stickbait | Sinking Stickbait |Offshore Fishing
We teamed up with professional angler Ryan Hanks to talk about using floating stick baits, sinking stick baits, and poppers. In this video we show the best ways to rig these baits. We head over to a local canal and cast the popper, sinking, and floating stick bait to show how Ryan works these baits offshore. This style of offshore fishing is very effective and is a great complement to slow pitch jigging.

Great vid, tons of great advise. Would be great if you could also add a few more rod details since imo this makes quite a difference on how these lures present themselves in the water.
    All in all, fabulous stuff.

One trick new to me, maybe old practice with you,
is to use perfection loops (with mono/fluoro 40lbs
or greater). Cuts down tackle clutter and noise
when attaching your lures. Most of the time using
quality split rings that you tie on your perfection
loops. Some S. Cal west coast anglers tie the P. loop
straight to the lure. (depends on type of fish targeted).
Nice to see you team up with Ryan Hanks. Like where
    ya are heading.

The slow pitch game is new to me but always enjoyed chasing schools busting water. Always up for learning more. Not hard to find Spanish and false albacore nearshore up here in the panhandle.

Could have used this video a few weeks ago so that I would have had s stick bait ordered and on my spinning rod prior to this last Tuesday. Some false Albacore swam by and I did not have a Jig on my spinning rod. I got so excited I tried to cast my new Johnny Jig slow pitch rig like a surf caster. Did not even think to put my thumb on the spool. Needless to say, the reel spooled up to warp speed then tangled and snapped the line. took me about 20 minutes to untangle the mess I made.
Folks in these parts use an Epoxy Jig or a deadly dick and rip across the water as fast as they can reel.
What stick bait do the Northeast Albies like?
    Time for another Jig order.

What’s the name of those big split ring pliers?

  • @FinessaYT
    @FinessaYT 11 місяців тому

I prefer to put the ring on my lure first then hold the hook in my left hand and stick bait/splitring in my pliers/right hand this doesn’t allow you to slip into the plot ring since you’re holding it firmly

What reel size/gear ratio do you recommend for throwing SINKING stick bait to Mahi/Wahoo? Torn between 18000 and 20000 (Saragosa).

What knot are you using to connect braid to leader? And how long of a leader do you recommend? Last year the tunas were boiling and due to the fact that I had a really long leader, the knot kept hitting the guides and I couldn't get much distance casting. Needles to say, lost the chance to hook a tuna.

Use an FG or PR knot, they cast through the guides great. Most guys use 8-10' of fluoro. Ideally, you want your connection knot to be between the reel and the first guide when you are casting.
