High Vis vs Reflective | Choosing The Right Cycling Jacket

- To clear up any confusion, hi visibility clothing is not the same as reflective clothing. Jackets, jerseys, gloves and shoes with reflective elements are essential for night time riding.
Reflective clothing like the super impressive Proviz Reflect 360 range, use technical materials such as Scotchlite logos, stripes, pipes and chevrons to reflect the light emitted from car headlights (and even just the surrounding ambient light). This greatly improves your visibility during dark light conditions.
Reflective clothing can be a black jacket with reflective piping, so would be OK for night time use, but near invisible during daytime riding.

I like to combine the two and use proviz 360 for daytime HiViz and nighttime high reflectivity.
I’m shocked to see so many cyclist on the road at nighttime wearing black and without lights on their bikes.

I'm done with that channel tbh, it's so elitist. No we shouldn't have to wear it, but would we rather be right or alive? I don't live in Holland or Japan where attitudes are different so I'm going to make damn sure I can be seen. That presenter made sure he wore the most uncomfortable vest for cycling. There's tons of stretchy, breathable hi viz cycling tops and jackets.

Best thing to have is definitely a good hi-vis green reflective vest that doesn't restrict your movement.
You are very visible in both day and night conditions, and is imho a much better option than a fully reflective vest/jacket.

I really like my high viz rain jacket for when it's an overcast or rainy day. Makes a big impact indeed (to avoid big impacts :-)) So as much as I am really impressed with the all reflective jackets. I'll stick to my high viz one with reflective elements.

Can´t we have 2 colors on 1 jacket?
I ride mostly during the daytime and do like HiViz. Though nothing will protect you from the distracted drivers and their mobile devices. I used to fear the drunk or high drivers or those too stupid to drive properly, now it's all those plus mobile devices. When cycling is no longer viewed as purely recreational, we might get safer bike lanes.
We're starting to get a lot more protected bike lanes in some cities, it's just slow. NY, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and most major west coast cities are all making good improvements
Can you recommend a good pair of reflective pants that won't get damaged in the lower back area?

On a reflective jacket what happens when you spill water on it

Very interesting but i found a better solution, available whatever i wear: a front and a tail light(s) that iluminate the bike and under the bike all the time. This also will permanent iluminste the reflective elements of the bike itself.

Quality jackets are very expansive and i rather buy another flashlight with those money.
This is not true. My proviz 360 reflect is so reflective that it reflects even during the day.
huh? I have the 360 CRS in red. It doesn't do that. It only reflects on direct light (the reflectivity is slightly less than the original grey models, but of course red is more visible during daylight)
