  • Little clip warming up last week for a few weddings I had over the weekend.
Absolutely loving the Eavestaff Mini Piano I got a few weeks ago. My thought process was, get something smaller / lighter than a full upright for my conservatory at home. That Eavestaff however, weighed an absolute TON and took a serious amount of sweat and tears to move!!
Thankfully my brother in law Stuey is a tank and he came with both enthusiasm and a physique like 90s Arnie and we managed to shift it together. With help from my Dad also at my house end.
The piano was going free on Facebook Marketplace in my hometown and I had been after one of these for a while so I was incredibly grateful to the lady who kindly let me have it. She told me she had loved the piano but was struggling with arthritis and could no longer play. I assured her it was going to a loved home where it would be played every day.
Most gigs I’m playing popular covers that everyone knows but the odd one I can venture off piste a little bit more. I’ll play some more obscure covers / song that I personally really enjoy playing. This song is one of those songs that I might play in that environment.
When I was younger I was so obsessed with playing what I wanted to play and how I would be perceived quality wise that I didn’t play what people probably wanted to hear a lot of the time. Sure, a small minority would still be engaged and enjoy it but most might not be. From a business and longevity perspective of wanting to have music be my career and main job / life I had to change this as I now fully understand people want to connect with what you are playing and doing and this is much easier with popular songs that they would know. The nights are more engaged, the venue is happy and hopefully people are happy.
Some will argue there is a balance to be had but I genuinely enjoy playing anything now and have found myself searching for covers that are well known but that are not necessarily played live by acoustic cover artists often.
I haven’t had much piano playing experience but I am enjoying the process of learning . Feels like there is a long journey to be had on the progression front .
I’ll keep posting these little clips with some chat. Hopefully it gives a little insight into life as a musician .
    Take care all :)
