Actually this is a nice video without the editing, it doesn’t ruin the viewing experience and I’m sure it’s less work for you, if it means you’d publish more repairs I’d definitely vote for no edits. As for the hole in the pcb that’s a great tip actually for designing these things if it’s a pad with connection right in the middle leave a hole so when you push down while soldering the excess can come out from below (hopefully) 😂

That's fantastic... As group we came up with things to investigate, and it can even show sometimes when we replace a part, things might not go as expected, I have never seen a chip like that,... That can be soldered in that way. So this video was a learning experience, in what can happen replacing this style of chip. Great video... Any time we can learn something new. That's fantastic. 🙂

Yes, nice catch. Horrible design of that chip though. It could have been worse still if the PCB designer did not have a hole on the back side of that chip. Probably the indent in the pad is to both increase surface area and to provide for a overflow cavity in case too much solder paste has been used.

from what I could see when you tried to add more solder to the gnd pad there was definitely some air bubbles coming through the molten metal

Did you leave it charging to check that the LED went from flashing red to flashing amber to flashing green, then solid green?

I wish he did 🥲 I received the speaker back now from Richard and it still doesn't charge, nothing changed.

I have RockBox Chunk on the bench with a not charging fault - no sign I can see of an FP8207 - black, white, and red wires to a 4-cell battery configured two parallel in series. Just about charged up by my bench psu now - though probing the pcb some components are shorted.

@@mikepanchaud1 This video was published as an instant premiere which is like a live stream where we can all watch the video at the same time, it plays without the option to skip forward and it has live chat. That was 2pm this afternoon. Once finished it becomes a normal video on the channel. There is a live stream tomorrow as you say on @theelectronicschannel with Carlos, Detlef and myself

    Hi I'd appreciate your help!
I recently also have some charging problems and wanted to check things out inside the speaker. Well I already failed to open it (Dockin D Fine 2+)!
Do you have any advice how to open that thing?
    Thanks in advance!!!

Hi, I have a Dockin D Fine and the green led flashes very quickly when charging. The pal speaker only lasts a short while in use. Is this a bad battery? I have been using the speaker for 5 years.

This did not fix the charging issue. I've now received the speaker back from Richard, and it is experiencing the same exact issue - still not charging. I'm losing hope with this god damn speaker 😆 Thankfully I have a second one of these, but I wanted to use these in stereo. Womp womp.

Strange because it was charging at the end of the video 🤔 What is the charging LED indicating now?

    • @filipthedev
      @filipthedev 5 місяців тому

@LearnElectronicsRepair How do you know it was charging at the end of the video - have you plugged the board/battery in, charged it for a bit, and measured an increase of voltage on the battery? 🤔 Because I haven't seen you do this.
The LED charging indicator is blinking red just like before, nothing new. But the battery isn't actually getting charged.
I've had it plugged in for 2 hours - the battery went from 9.99v to 9.79v. Same conditions, charger, battery. I've even tried a fresh battery out of my second speaker as well as its charger - same result.

@@filipthedev On the video at 40:25 there is now a voltage drop across the current sense resistor (there never was before) so at this point there is charge current flowing into the battery. Can you check if you still see a voltage across these resistors please. If your multimeter has a millivolts range

@LearnElectronicsRepair I did yesterday, but now I can't even get the board to turn on. Plugged in a charged battery, which is at 12.1v, but after plugging in, it trips the BMS and goes to 0.00v. After unplugging, it goes back to 12.1v.
Also tried charging right now, but now I get no LED whatsoever. Something is really wrong with this thing.
