- The Carthusian cloistered monastery is located in the mountains. It depicts the lives of monks who pursue the truth of eternity in a small space. The frugal and simple life of the monks, with its one meal a day without a side dish, the raggedy clothes worn on a sewing machine, and the hard labor, sends a symbolic message to the modern world of greed and competition.

The sincerity and peace emanating from these men and the world they are cloistered in reminds me of how catholocism used to be like. This was truly refreshing!

I think it's supposed to be only on Fridays -- abstinence required by the statutes -- bread and water. In this case, plain rice and water. Just eating rice without vegetables or a little protein will surely lead to poor health consequences.
@@Eunoia-hv3gm Yes, I agree. I wonder if these monks do regular or the occasional fast during intense prayer. I know many religious people fast on a regular basis. But eating only once a day is also a kind of fast isn't it? It's a 24 hour fast.
@@chaisepomme4070 Yes, in the next video they are seen eating other things. So the rice only day is probably their equivalent of the bread only day that the statutes command.
Where do the monks get their plants from for their gardens?
Monasteries, even cloistered ones, accept many donations from the outside world and can even make requests to the faithful for things they need. Much of their food, clothing, equipment and medicine, that they themselves cannot produce, comes from donations
Asians love steps! Thailand, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, stairs everywhere - I feel for the physically challenged folks that I saw struggling ever so slowly up flights of steps each and every day...
Maybe the only cloistered men…I don’t know……but there are many cloistered nuns in monasteries.

Yes, the one who rings the bell ua-cam.com/video/38eMVy1eHJk/v-deo.html. There are two German monks depicted in this documentary (I'm German myself, so I can understand when they talk in German in the background). The press report linked to by Wikipedia about the Charterhouse Our Lady of Korea said that the one who passed away was 55 years old, so it is the younger one of the two. The fire happened about 3 years after all this was filmed. At the time of filming, he was 52 and I believe in part 1 there are subtitles saying that he was 52, so it must be him. Rest in Peace and thank you for your prayers for all of us, as we now pray for you!

Paul following the customs of the jews or the pagans is not lying. Eating as the jews did or eating as the pagans did is irrelevant. What is relevant is teaching them about the Savior.
