    He indicates that the diamond wheel will last years with reasonable care, as will a lot of things. However, he also indicated that the diamond "wears" and gets finer over time. It must one day become a honing wheel then and no longer a grinding wheel.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Jeff, Yes it's correct the diamond will over the time of years get finer and finer as it wears. However diamond is the hardest material so it's very durable. Where the line between a honing wheel and grinding wheel is drawn is difficult to say. The idea with the honing wheel is to remove burr and the materials in a honing wheel are often a bit flexible which makes it easier to avoid damaging the edge when honing.

    Is the DF -wheel faster than original grinding wheel? I am considering DF or DC because I need to grind alot of tools and I really need more speed out of tormek system. Currently using standard original wheel witch is frustratingly slow. I can't use bench grinder because of noise, dust and fire hazard.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому

      The DF Diamond Wheel Fine with it's equivalent of 600 grit would be faster on harder steels. But if you are looking to remove a lot of material I'd recommend the DC Diamond Wheel Coarse. Note that the DC is not a finishing grinding wheel though. Good luck and stay sharp!

  • @1kylemiller

    Do you recommend using the fine wheel to set the edge (burr) and then finish with the extra fine before using the leather wheel?

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  3 роки тому

      Hi Kyle. It depends of which tool and also what you're going to do with the tool. For most tools the DF 600 grit+honing wheel gives a great finish. But off course if you want a superior finish the DE 1200 grit is even finer.

      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому

      Hej Gustavo, thank you for the kind feedback. If you want to remove more material the e.g. damaged/chipped knives then a roughened SG-25 is mostly enough. If you want to reshape e.g. woodturning tools a DC-250 is the choice.
      It´s in general not as easy to give you the perfect answer, it depends on the amount of material which has to be removed, the hardness of the material and what type of tool it is.
      I hope I could answer your question. /Wolfgang

    Hi, I'm planning on buying a Tormek T-8 Custom with a DF-250 & SJ-250 combo - would that work, I mean grinding with the DF-250 and honing with the SJ-250, or is the grit gap too big?

    • @TormekSharpening

      Hi Karl! That combo would work perfectly! Just keep in mind the SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone will decrease in diameter over time, so you'll have to change the jig setting when switching to it from the DF-250 Diamond Wheel Fine. Stay sharp! :D

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 роки тому +1

      Hej Alessandro, depends how damaged it is and how much time yoou like to invest. Heavily damaged is for some still sharp ;-). In general the DF with 600 grid is absolutley fine. The coarse with 360 grid is just meant to remove material, but you need the DF afterwards.

    For sharpening kitchen cutlery at a farmers market would you suggest course diamond or fine diamond, then finish with extra fine or leather?

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  Рік тому +2

      Hello! good question, and we can't give a straight answer I'm afraid. It totally depends on the condition of the knives, but i would guess they can be quite beat up? Worth noting is that you won't get a good edge off the DC-250/200 Diamond Wheel Coarse and then honing. If you have the coarse wheel you'll have to finish with either the fine or the extra fine before honing (we recommend to always end with honing). So i'ts really a matter of preference. Check out our grinding wheels guide for more info: tormek.com/en/knowledge/the-tormek-way-of-sharpening/grinding-wheels-guide. Personally, i would go for just the DF-250/200 Diamond Wheel Fine, since it should do an efficeint job while leaving a good edge. Then IF it turns out you feel you need even faster material removal or a higher polish down the line, you can add whichever wheel you feel you need.
      Or email support@tormek.se for additional support.

    Unfortunately the video dragged in the first 5 minutes, I had to leave because it was way too slow. Thought I’d let you know it was impaired and needs to get to business

    I know why you love them! They cost $400 a wheel!
    I hate this company.
    Just turn your own wheel from plastic, hdpe, or corian and slap a proedge belt on it. Boom $25.
    I hate this company.
    If you buy the t4 factor in an ADDITIONAL $105 for the truing tool. You absolutely need it.

      Hej Richard,
      we are really sorry that you had difficulties in sharpening some of your tools. Our products are developed and manufactured in Sweden. We aim for a really high quality-standard. Most of our Jigs are patented and developed to deliver high-quality results. Depending on what you sharpen the TT-50 Truing Tool is for sure useful but not mandatory. It does not come with the smaller Tormek T-4 but does with the Tormek T-8 which is build for professional use.
      Stay sharp and safe!
