The guy you bought the corn from actually lost face among the people. They laughed at him and you can hear someone say to him 10:00 "he sees you as a beggar and wants to give you money" A general note on Kurdish culture, if someone works for you, you can give them extra money for their hard work. However, at shops or stands like this where the money is fixed- giving extra money is a sign of pity/charity. We would give extra money to beggars or sometimes very poor people who don't want to be seen as begging but just sell something symbolic. However for someone who is well-off and running a business (small as it may be) they want to be seen as equals and it would hurt their pride if you didn't accept the change. I realize that this is not the case in many Middle Eastern countries and you were doing it out of good intention, but Kurds are a bit different culturally when it comes to their social pride.
I do not agree with your thinking when you say extra money for the one whose hard work seems like a pity, this man next to the seller man just jokes with his friend nothing more.
I am happy you had a good time there, the white drink you had its a yogurt drink, usually in Kurdistan they have it in smoky flavor, so you were right its the same like in Turkey and Lebanon but this is Iraqi way and Kurdistan one have a specialty too which is made with smoked yogurt.

@@siton8492 I think Abu Mohammed may be referring to the one with Luke buying grilled corn in Cairo from what he called a cheeky vendor although there was initial misunderstanding I believe due to language barrier as explained by Arabic speaking viewers
@@pablocorpuscle9248 yes you are right , the video ‘s title “ don’t trust this man “ in the Egypt playlist . The corn seller basically took advantage of Luke and stole money from him. The seller was a scammer , but Luke’s approaching with the camera and constantly talking in English angered him . The seller told Luke that this is an Arab county and asked him to speak Arabic . Then his boss came and told the seller that Luke should not be filming him. Even if you don’t speak Arabic the seller was giving angry vibes and didn’t look like someone you could trust . Luke is very kind and wants to contribute to the local economy but his habit of tipping the sellers backfired him this time and there were other occasions the seller were not happy . Though some sellers appreciated his kindness. Luke , Harry and Mac are great guys but my advice to Westerners watching the videos is to read the comments. Many times locals point out the missing monuments that should’ve been visited and great recommendations for restaurants. Most importantly, they will explain how to avoid bad situations

Luke, the fermented drink you had is called mastaw- it is yoghurt mixed with water and ice. The taste isn’t for everyone and many middle eastern countries have their own version eg Iran - dough, Turkey - Ayran. As a Kurd growing up in Australia my siblings and I called it “yoghurt shake” 😂
