Right Justin is something else he always does a lot of shit for attention and he does so by throwing other women under the bus. He did with Janet, he did with Britney by overextraggering how they broke up and recently did his black female co star (forgot her name) for a upcoming film they did while filming later last year. That co star’s father had to call Justin out through social media

Janet has been revered recently. For the last couple of years, she was honored with the Billboard Music Icon Award, Radio Disney Music Impact Award, and was finally inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame a year and a half ago. Unfortunately due to the obvious sexism and racism in the entertainment industry and society in general, Janet was demonized for over 14 years and her record sales were never the same. While Justin Timberfuck not only didn't receive any consequences for his actions, he was in fact rewarded for it. After he had the audacity to throw her under the bus, I was no longer a fan of his after that and never will be again. Janet's legacy will never be denied. 3 of her studio albums are on Rolling Stone's updated 500 Greatest Albums Of All-Time list. Control is the highest ranked Janet album at #111, The Velvet Rope at #318, and Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 at #339.

Her legacy stands strong. It is there, and nothing a man did to her will take away from that. It's truly a shame what happened, and she took the blame for it, personally - and by the media. It's so sick.

The funny thing is his album Man Of The Woods sold only 422,000 copies compared to his older albums that sold 1,137,000. His singles like Filthy, & Say Something were the only singles who charted and only at #9 and has no US Certification. His Super Bowl performance was ridiculed, and told to be the most boring Super Bowl in history.

True I feel one of the other major reasons why Janet isn’t given enough credits is bc it seems a lot of times the media will like to regulate artists’s legacies to a certain group of new school artists based of their genre and especially their race. They do that with both Janet and Madonna with Janet they like to make it seem it’s only black R&B artists are inspired by her but that’s not true. It was said that Britney was scheduled to be part of the MTV icon special for Janet back in 2002 but her team had her back out bc they wanted to market her as the next Madonna.

The way she built up her career as you said from Control to the, THE Rhythm Nation 1814, get rid of the Jackson last name, delivering her self titled album and signing up for the most expensive record deal surpassing Madonna an Michael, that literally destroyed my jaw. I personally thank The Velvet Rope bc I have never found an album I could relate to in the way I did with it and the fact that I came true to myself and realize I needed help (therapy). THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Janet is seriously one of the most underrated legends. Janet is not to be played with. Janet has 10 number 1 singles, 27 top 10 hits. Janet has the biggest selling debut tour in history, Janet’s albums are all classics. Janet has the longest running number 1 by any Jackson family member, including Michael. On billboards list of there 100 artists, Janet ranked 7, Michael ranked 8th. Off rhythm nation alone, Janet became the only artist in history to have 7 top 5 singles off one album. 4 being number one. Janet also is the only artist to have number 1s from one album in three separate calendar years. Janet’s Janet. Has sold 20 million worldwide and the same with Rhythm Nation 1814. Janet was the highest paid performer in the world, twice, beating out MJ and Madonna. Not to mention Janet was named the second most successful artist of the 90s, right after Miz Mariah Carey. Janet’s dancing and singing will go down in history. Janet never used her family for fame, in fact in the 90s especially it can be argued her family used HER name to stay afloat. Janet is the blueprint. Janet doesn’t seem to get her flowers because of internalized racism in the industry. The ceo of CBS (Les Moonves) was obsessed with ruining her career after the incident (Super Bowl) because she wasn’t “sincere enough.” Seriously look it up yall. Not to mention the velvet rope is still one of the most influential and important albums ever and is a precursor and helped shaped alternative R&B. I could go on and on about Janet’s impact, beauty, accolades, but you get my point. I stand up for Janet more than any artists because she has been done so wrong. Thank you again for this video

While I understand what you mean, I think her career became overshadowed after 2004. Her contributions to music were widely recognized in her prime. I think the only way she was overshadowed was because of Madonna. To be frank, Madonna was a controversial, white pop star. And while Madonna and Janet fought and advocated for very similar things, I believe Madonna was simply more recognized because she appealed to 'white America' and a broader demographic. This by no means insinuates Janet wasn't big. She was HUGE. She has put in the work and made strides for so many others. However during the 80s - and I can only speak about what I've read, Madonna was more centralized as opposed to Janet.

Janet is my girl, my hero and one of my personal top 2 favorite female artists of all time alongside of course Madonna. It’s crazy how Janet was blacklisted for something that wasn’t her fault, but people for a long time didn’t realize how influential Janet is to the world, her 1993 album Janet was the first album by a female artist to debut atop of the billboard 200 through the Niseln soundcan, her album the velvet rope is considered to be the pioneer to the alternative R&B genre/movement that flourished into the late 2000s and 2010s, paving the way for FTA Twings, Tinashe, The Weekend, frank ocean, Miguel and Beyoncé, her song alright featured rapper heavy D was one of the first time to feature the pop/R&B singer and rapper collaboration before it was popularized by Mariah Carey in the late 1990s. Janet has done so much for the culture and I’m glad she is now getting flowers so many legends recently have only gotten their flowers once they passed away including Janet’s own brother Michael Jackson and her close friend Whitney Houston. She’s truly the Empress of Pop and we all have no choice but to bow down
Side note: I hope you do similar videos on M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj they are two of the best and most influential female rappers of the new school hip hop era but they are always discredited or overlooked for their legacies and impacts to the culture

I agree, the Super Bowl incident doesn't fully explain everything that has happened in the 16 years since. The success of her album Damita Jo was totally impacted by being blacklisted and not being able to promote as broadly as previous years. By the time Discipline and Unbreakable were released in 2008 and 2015 though, she was performing greatest hits medlies at awards shows and had earned a lot of public goodwill after Michael Jackson's death. I think now the problem is the music she has released. Singles like No Sleep and Made for Now just don't compare to her legendary hits and her last few albums have repeated similar themes and sounds. I think a good marketing machine could launch a great comeback album, but right now she's not evolving and making her best work.

Janet was, is and will always be a QUEEN. Her impact to pop culture is undeniable. The SB may have cut short her commercial dominance 5 years earlier but I feel that ageism is also a culprit here. The industry is unkind to women over 40, especially to women of color. JANET IS AMAZING. I didnt even grow up in any of those eras but I prefer her music over any of todays music. she is a legend, to name some of my favorites, nasty, rhythm nation, when I think of you, if, together again, doesn't really matter, and I LOVE that's the way love goes and all for you. it saddens me what happened to her after the super bowl, along with madonna, whitney, and Mariah she is the greatest female artist of all time. I think you should do a video of Janet's true album sales, she has been incredibly under certified and some of her albums have sold over 20 million copies worldwide (janet. is probably close to 30 million by now) I really wanna know her actual sales because she is so underrated and deserves more credit for being the icon and legend she is. great video:)

People like to say Madonna is the Queen of Pop, and she is, but I truly believe there was 2 Queens of Pop that debuted in the 80s, Madonna and Janet. Every female pop artist that came after them drew inspiration from at least one of them, if not both. Control through All for You was Janet's commercial prime, but I truly think she could've had at least a few more hit album cycles, or at least one great hit song from a fairly praised album similar to Confessions on the Dance Floor and Hard Candy had it not been for the Superbowl and Justin fucking Timberlake throwing her under the bus. Janet was truly being erased, and she did not deserve any of that.

Janet needs to do a collab album with some of these legendary artists she's influenced, and I mean bigger and better artists than Daddy Yankee. Collaborations have helped artists like Madonna and Beyonce stay relevant and stay on the charts. I think it's interesting that Janet has not yet collaborated with young female artists like herself, which the other two frequently do. A feat with Beyonce, Rihanna, Janelle, or even Ariana or Drake would be a massive hit. Now that it's 2020 and we're in the age of social media and streaming, being blacklisted doesn't mean as much as it did in 2004. Plus she has her own MeToo stories that she talked about a lot in the 90s. Bringing it back up now would also boost her status. I think she can log a few more number ones if she wants them with the right music and promotion.

  • @rvegas81
    @rvegas81 3 роки тому

I enjoy watching these videos! I love /stan for all of my female pop stars. They're all great.
I'm a little older than a few of the reviewers(album rankings or why Janet was so big) on Why Janet Jackson was so big. You have to remember that it was either her, Whitney Houston or Mary J (towards the end of the late 2000s). They were the Beyonce or "it" RnB artists for my community. Beyonce and Ciara have made no calms about copying or getting their style from Janet. Ciara's 06 albums and Beyonce's 2013 album reminds me of a direct inspiration (or really extension of these three legends in my opinion.) to Janet Jackson's style and music.
To be fair, Janet and Whitney Houston really pushed boundaries on what was acceptable for behavior like Madonna. They all had their controversial moments. It seems like society has forgiven those two post-Michael Jackson's death.
I remember that I couldn't wait to see the next Janet Jackson video or album that was being released. You know it was always going to be fire. Janet Jackson and Madonna did a lot of images changing in the 90s, and I was always found that to be cool and unique for both artists.
Where Janet Jackson lost me at is her music- post-Super Bowl controversy. I remember being excited and looking at 106 and Park and the tv VJ's were debuting her new 2004 cd. I remember looking at that TV. Was that Janet's new single? Whose Kanye West? I was shocked it definitely was a letdown compared to the earlier albums she released. Apparently, a lot of people thought so too. I remember that a lot of people talked about that on the campus quad the next day. It was noticeable, and the music sounded so-so. Janet Jackson's music didn't sound as fresh as it used to. I remember a few years later, I saw a clip of her with Nelly. I didn't realize it was her lead single for that album. It came and I didn't see it anywhere.
Madonna and Jennifer Lopez also had downturns in their career during that time, and people thought those ladies would never make a comeback. But they did! They had bigger comebacks than Janet. I honestly thought it was so weird that Janet did have some power that she used to. I became a Janet Jackson fan, again, with the single Feedback. I was completely blown away and purchased the CD! I was like, Thank Jesus, Janet Jackson released a cool new album like this!!
To me, this put her back on the scene. I remember seeing the videos being actually played on MTV and BET for the first time in several years. But it seems like the Music Shows would not mention her name, or they would say-Oh yea that's Janet. I remember that the Media also began putting Madonna and Michael Jackson into the legendary status, which I thought was odd considering that Janet Jackson was looked over (08/09-This is It Movie + 4 Minutes). Considering that Janet was directly competing with them or giving them praise in interviews.
The Feedback Album and tour is, in my honest opinion, what brought Janet back into the spotlight, along with starring in few big-budget movies Like Tyler Perry and Saturday Night Live. I remember thinking that it was really weird that Janet had such a downturn in her music career. But with this decade, she's had a good career with acting in a lot of projects. After Michael Jackson's death, Janet released 2009'S Make Me. I was disappointed again. And after that, I could never get into Janet's newer stuff.
I always found that her music was delayed or stuck like Toni Braxrtons in that late 90s/early 200s vibe. I felt like Erykah Badu, Def Jam's Floetry, and Madonna had way more upbeat or creative music to keep my attention. They also seemed to play those ladies a lot more than Janet Jackson at around that time. I thought this was so odd? What happened!
For me, Madonna won the battle as far as realizing cool new music or being able to keep a fresh music image out there. Which I would have thought would happen the other way around. But Janet's done great with her acting career and Live Concerts this decade, with a lot of publicity. I'm glad that she's back in the spotlight again. She has a great future career. It'll be interesting to see how her music fares with Urban and Pop radio audiences. All of these ladies are legends in my book.

I like her so much. Her voice is so sweet and her vídeos so amazing, this woman is ICONIC, but unfortunately life is not always fair, and what happened with Janet was really awful. She deserved better, one bad moment at superbowl almost destroyed her career like everything she had done before didn't matter anymore! She doesn't have the voice of MARIAH or Whitney, the stage presence of Britney or the pop outrageous moments of Madonna but she definitely has a beautiful voice, great performances live, and she had a strong message of power and freedom for women in her music...before Beyoncé, Britney, Rihanna and many others there was Janet...

Janet is quite literally one of the women to set the stage for so many amazing artists to follow. It truly is a shame that ONE moment led to such a horrid reaction, and blatant disregard for what she's achieved!

When listing people she influenced, Britney Spears definitely should've been mentioned. She doesn't have as much depth and artistry as Janet but she's taken from her the most, in many different ways.

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO...
I'M APPALLED NO ONE HAS EVER MENTIONED THE FACT THAT SHE WAS ACTUALLY ASSAULTED AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE BECAUSE SHE WAS DEFINITELY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPOSURE OF HER BREASTS ON LIVE TV..!!
I WONDER HOW THINGS WOULD BE IN TODAY'S WORLD OF THE "ME TOO" MOVEMENT WILL THEY STILL TREAT HER LIKE A PREDATOR OR WILL THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND CONFESS THE OBVIOUS TRUTH OF THE SITUATION, THIS WOMAN WAS ACTUALLY THE VICTIM AND THIS WHOLE DEBACLE ON THAT DAY BUT YOU DON'T SEE ANYONE BLACK BALLING JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE....HUMMMM..
    I WONDER WHY.

It's so interesting to think, what if this happened today? Would it be the total opposite reaction? Would there be outrage against the man? How many men in society still have plentiful careers despite allegations or misconduct? This situation really raises a lot of theoretical questions.
