When star wars got re released in theaters in the 90s my dad took me to blockbuster and bought me a giant star destroyer on a stand don't kno of its rare but I treasured that thing
Man back in the day when the POTF2 figures came out I thought the following figures were hard to find.... 1.)Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight 2.) Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues 3.)Leia Organa Bespin Fatigues 4.) Leia Gold Bikini (AKA Hutt Slaya Leia lol) 5.) The SOTE line 6.) The EU line boy I was wrong.
If I had a time machine and used it to travel back in time to buy up rare Star Wars action figures, would Jean Claude Van Damme as Timecop come after me?
When it comes to Star Wars figures, people say rare to stir interest or to justify price. If one can buy something whenever you want REGARDLESS of the price it’s not rare is it. Something that hardly ever, ever, ever comes up for sale. IS RARE, period!!! Carded vinyl caped Palitoy Jawas, they’re rare. Genuine prototype rocket firing Fett’s, they’re as rare as a day passing without The Junkman making a video. 😂 Hope you’re keeping well J’Man.
I've had 2 blue snaggle tooth figures and have been buying and selling vintage Star Wars for nearly 35 years. I've had double or triple digits of the main line (not including last 17 in that). Old Bluey is rare and I agree not extremely rare.
I think when people who place items on eBay and other auction sites, and they use the word "rare" to loosely to help sell their items. Some items may be rare, but not all. Limited edition is truly rare because it's limited. Very good video, junkman.
I've had a vinyl cape jaws my whole life, I was once told by an "aficionado" that he "wouldn't even be looking at, is there so extremely rare that even during the early 80s they were faked" guess I'm a millionaire lol
For both Luke & Obi-wan there's variations. Like Luke comes in yellow hair or brown. Obi-wan comes in white or gray hair. Not to mention Han Solo has both regular head or what they call bobble head.
Ree-Yese with original weapon and original card back. Card back thin in one corner, I must have been really careless upon opening this one... Guess I got it around 1986 or 87 and would have paid one Guilder.
I think collectors should have long since adopted the term "prized" or "must-have" for items that are just that but not necessarily all that rare. Predatory sellers and full-of-themselves bragging collectors need to be called out more for blatant misuse of terms for effect.
I wonder if blue snaggletooth and yak face are rare sometimes I have the feeling that the last 17 power of the force in my area. I never saw one of those in flea market or garage sales
An uncommon occurrence is an occurrence that does not happen every day, is unexpected, but not particularly surprising. In contrast, a rare occurrence happens so seldom that an individual might not encounter it in a lifetime.
Good video--I agree completely. I wish we COULD make a new scale, but sellers still wouldn't use it correctly. "RARE" is extremely overused on Ebay. With vintage comics, now the overused term is "KEY" which is a term taken from coin collectors within the last few years, and it's annoying.
Ya gotta search lots too. Sometimes the figures aren't named. The buyer is relying on you, the collector, to know what's what. Got my 2nd Blue Snageltooth in a lot. Got my A-wing by luck (that's a whole story). But, for sure, I will agree, the word "rare" is misused and abused by those trying to make a quick buck. Collector education is key. The rest of collecting comes down to personal stategy.
My position has always been to collect what you like. Nobody is going to get rich and retire off of a few Star Wars figures. Have fun, relive the memories of your childhood and just enjoy.
I wish it was that easy, as I've gone through the journey of toy collecting. I found out that money and toy collecting go hand and hand with most collectors . The appeal to characters like yakface and blue snaggle tooth is generated by hype and how expensive they tend to be. It makes people want them more, and people tend to be in awwe when someone has them in their personal collection . Part of the appeal is the value that collectors put in them . I don't know how many times friends ask me" how much does that figure go for " . Lol tell that to collectors who afa their stuff and look for the most mint figure they can find . Some people think differently when it comes to these toys .
I have two Blue Snags. Is it rare? Yes, but you have to also take into account what a seller thinks he or she can sell on eBay. Is the seller more likely to sell a blue snags or a regular old Jawa first?
Great video JM! It's the perfect storm of people thinking rare means an extremely low number (like single digits) while getting a false sense of availability by finding them on a global marketplace like eBay. I've only seen one Blue Snaggletooth "in the wild" and have never seen a DT Ben/Luke/Vader, VC Jawa, or Stormtrooper Luke. The only other rare item in my collection I didn't get from eBay is a Revenge of the Jedi poster that I happened upon in one of my local vintage toy stores. How do you feel about "uncommon" as a bridge term between common and rare? I'm thinking most of the Final 17 here. There's a decent shot of running across some of them at my local vintage toy shops, more than rare figures but not near as much as common figures.
Rare just means there is more demand than units available. I have a Blue Snaggletooth sealed in its Kenner bag. It's pretty valuable. Having original weapons I'd also less common
Reminds me about one of the starwars board games I'm making. It seems one of the game board action figures I need for it is a somewhat rare online. I can get it online, however not from the places online that I want to get it from, the ones I have gift cards for. However the one character I already have for the board game. I'm glad I was able to get with a gift card. What makes the boardgame epic is the next character I need for the game. I can't wait until I eventually get the character to play the board game.
I consider figures like the Blue Snaggletooth and the vinyl cape Jawa "rare" because they were made for a short time. Same with the Yak Face. The final 15 (or 17) are similar for that same reason. The double telescoping lightsaber figures are in the same class but more rare.
@@ThatJunkman oh, I didn’t realize either of those facts. Then it would be a little more difficult, but not impossible, to figure out, but nly if those production numbers can be found. Maybe the play sets with red snags cancel out the blue ones sold separately?
To many me any figure that was ònly producè in foreign countries ör limited protype or in case of blue snaggle tooth in a sears only exclusive are the rear figures

Rare is a relative term. If there were 500 million of one toy released and 499 million of another toy, then the second toy is more rare than the first. Even though they are both extremely plentiful, that doesn’t change the fact that one toy is rare is relation to the other. Yes, as I've said before, I bought a repro blue Snaggletooth. I think it's great and just as good as the real one. I have a few repro weapons of the rarer ones, too. I'm a vintage guy, too, and have my vintage Kenner SW line (with a few major variants) I grew up with complete, thanks to the repros finishing it off.
@@ThatJunkman I don't get it either . I collect vintage figures too and to me ,my personal opinion ,It would be like I would be lying to myself if I bought repros . Don't get me wrong, I can see why people tend to go that route . $500 plus for a vintage snaggletooth is alot of money. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm all in when it comes to having nothing but ogs In my collection . Here I thought rare was when it was slightly pink inside and just a little juicy. It would really mess up the market if we could mine the landfills and dig up all the action figure and toys that got tossed out back in the day.
Hey, great video! I really liked it. And you spoke very well. Have you been working on your public speaking? Have you been practicing with marbles in your mouth?

Ebay brings rare items to a more accessable market place, I think that's why people are getting confused on the rarity.
