omg!! you saved my life! I'm a new paint and sip night instructor and I been having to manually freehand trace each image myself on each canvas. I knew there had to be an easier way!
A simple thumbs up is not enough for this tip!!! I have had this problem a lot where I draw something great and didn't have my sketchbook with me. Now I can easily transfer it!!!! Then i can practise shading on the one not in the sketch book. Maybe my sketchbook will actually start getting fuller now. Thanks so mutch is not enough thanks at all. Thanks times a million.
I recently just drew Baymax because I've been trying to perfect your shades into color technique and when I took it to school everyone said it was cool (I have kinda like a secret market to buy drawings now) so one of my friends asked me to do the exact same thing but I said it was gonna take a while, now I will probably give it to my friend by tomorrow
Good technique video. I have not seen this sketch- transfer - good paper before. I have been been using the sketch- black outline - tracing paper- 6/7B graphite outline then redraw the outline over good paper. Your video has not only reduced my transfer stage by a good three hours, it is a multi times use, functionality, but also I am now going back to a high detailed drawing which I'd ran out of enthusiasm to complete. Thank you also for showing the, 'Beware of black finger tips', stage. Cheerio!
This is such a helpful trick! In the video, you said that you didn't know if the technique would work on a canvas. Whenever I paint and I need to have an outline, I print the picture (if it's a drawing I did, I just use paper I have ), I get some chalk, and I then cover the entire backside with chalk. That way, I can just put it over the canvas and draw the outline. You may already know this, but I just wanted to share this tip, for it is very similar to the one you shared :))
There was a drawing competition at my school and I drew a sketch in my sketchbook. I got carried away and went over it in pen. I frickin’ loved the drawing and wanted to trace it. Thanks for the tutorial.
I just want to take the time to say that you are one of my biggest inspirations (on youtube anyway). When ever I feel bad about my art, I just watch one of your videos and it really becomes my happy place and inspiration. Thanks so much Percy
Thanks for uploading this!! I used transfer paper back in 4th grade ( I am now in 6th) and I forgot how to do it. Now thanks to you I remember, and you also gave me great new tips!!! Thanks once again!!! BTW I 💗 your videos!!!
Wow! What's surprisingly pretty cool is I actually found this out on my own having full page sketches print whatever I'm doing on the pages before or after that page. Huh I knew I'd find this out somewhere on here. I already knew I couldn't have been the one to discover this. It's cheating if you ask me I can't appreciate my work if I did this. Peace out people
I did this with a still life sketch in art class at school! We had to transfer it so that it was less sketchy so we could watercolor it! Thank you so much! 😘 love you, Percy!
This video was sooo helpful! Thanks so much for posting it....I have a bunch of tracing paper and NOOOO IDEA OF HOW TO USE IT.... Until now! So thanks again :)
Thanks a lot! I recently drew my favourite manga character but wasn't able to make her mouth in my first attempt and had to rub over and over multiple times. I got the perfect mouth but the paper got all messed up due to constant rubbing and started to come off at some points... I didn't want to put the drawing on another paper and simply trace it hard to transfer the impressions which I could use as a guideline and also didn't want to use carbon paper cuz it makes the paper you're tracing on so messy! But your method is really great, I'm gonna try it out soon. Thanks a ton... ❤️
What's the difference in using the tracing paper vs just using the graphite on the back of the Original and tracing it? Also, I've found that if you trace the picture with a mechanical pencil, NO LEAD, it works really well. 🤗
Amazing technique! You can also use baking sheet as a clutch alternative for transfer paper.

You should tape down the transfer paper and original. If the original moves, you’ll have to start over.
