As a former submariner, my heart goes to anyone who falls victim to these catastrophes. The sea is unforgiving and indifferent, and I pray that we can find them and also learn from this incident.
I can't stop thinking about the dad and his 19 year old son that are stuck on it :( imagine knowing you can't do anything to save your child. As a mother it makes me sick to my stomach to imagine being in a scenario like that with one of my kids.
Ikr and to have people count down your husband and son’s demise is just a psychotic level of messed up. Ppl who are reacting like this need a psychological evaluation ASAP!
Seriously. After watching how much my nephews bled while learning to walk I didn't have kids. I would just be a nervous wreck all the time, can't do it and much respect to all of you who do it.
I just can't imagine that father and son! The thought of knowing that your 19 year old son was going to die and you couldn't do ANYTHING to save him just wrenches my gut. I don't care how much money you have... Nobody should have to watch their child die. I feel horrible for all of them, but as a mother, the father/son pair has hit me the hardest. My heart goes out to all family and friends and the company... Those that designed and worked on that craft are probably devastated, as well. And yes, I'll be praying for them.
🤦 obviously you don't understand what happens in a catastrophic implosion. Let me help you out so that you don't feel bad although it's not going to make you feel good. When there was a failure in the vessel, doesn't matter where. When it lost integrity, in less than 1sec, something like 20+ million tons crushed them, pulverized them and squirt them out like toothpaste or chez wiz out of the failure point. It wasn't dramatic like movie. There was no time for them to look at each other's eyes and know their imminent demise. There was no crying, no pain (is it takes more than a millisecond for your brain to even register pain and if your brain doesn't exist in that millisecond, you're good.) No fear, no regrets. It would be like you hugging a nuclear bomb as it blew up. There won't be any recovery because there's nothing to recover. They are but silly string squirt out and spread into the sea. 😳 It's literally The Circle of Life Simba...🤷
They would have been dead literally in an instant. They wouldn't have even known they were in trouble. implosion at those pressures happens at hypersonic speeds. They were dead before their brains could even register what was happening. As far as dying it's probably one of the best ways to go. Only quicker death I could think of would be spooning with a nuclear bomb when it detonates.
@@bsrcat1 actually, at the time I wrote that, they were saying that it could have malfunctioned and be bobbing somewhere with them trapped inside (considering it was bolted shut from the outside). Of course, knowing now that it imploded, I'm sure you're right. I still feel bad for the family and friends of the passengers and for the crew that designed and built it.
You don't drown if the pressure hull lets go: you get "diesel'd" the pressure crushes the sub so fast the air inside gets auto-ignited and any organism inside gets instantly (we're talking under 10 milliseconds here) turned to nothing.
I sit in that sub and once the doors close I am freaking out. Literally going insane from the claustrophobia. That’s even before the thing get close to any water. No thanks.
This is honestly one of the most horrific stories I’ve heard lately. Knowing that you have only a couple days left to live, underwater, with no way out would be absolutely terrifying
@@PatrickGotHands I don’t think they’ll have enough time to starve like that (then again they may consider killing one another for more oxygen - especially the dad while thinking about his son). The more time to live, the bigger the chances of rescue… then again I don’t see how on earth could they be rescued
@@PatrickGotHands They probably explode before all that happens or freeze to death. Because if anyone knows how cold Canada is, they wouldn't dare. That area is freezing cold. It doesn't matter how advanced the tools are. It will run out probably.
Even if they make it to the surface, they are still trapped without outside help. Doubt they could smash any of the windows either. Horrible way to die.
It’s kinda weird laying in my bed while watching these videos, knowing that there are people trapped at the bottom of the ocean, people in a literal war, and more. Makes me appreciate life, honestly
I jsut was thinking this. It's sad I'm here in my room safe watching this on UA-cam and they are stuck with Noone but themselves dying at the bottom of the ocean
Idk laying on bad and writing comments calling out us and eu Gouverment is the best thing you can do as a privat person to fight war. Writing comments here won’t help the divers
The world is seriously fucked-up currently, man... however, I think it's been that way practically since forever as far as humans go and it's safe to say that it's been way worse for the whole "I'd really like to survive" community.
Now knowing how the submersible imploded, it honestly fills me with relief. Those people died instantly after about an hour, and probably experienced little pain, whether mental OR physical, before death. My heart goes out to the family and I hope learning that they weren’t in pain gives them some closure.
The unfortunate reality of this is that there is nothing saying they died instantly. Being crushed against other human bodies and drowning at the same time isn't something I can see being instant. Not to mention the time they were down there with no power in a cramped up space losing air. My heart goes out to these people because I actually made the mistake of trying to imagine it and couldn't. This sucks
As a submarine veteran, I can say that there are few things more terrifying than the thought of being a disabled boat on the bottom of the ocean and all that that entails. There are drills and training but chances of survival are slim to none. Please pray for them.
Most people don't remember the kursk and the fact they could hear banging making morse code when they were looking for it. I've visited a Oberon class a few years ago. Mechanical failure is a death sentence
There's no way I'm getting on a sub. Even if it's above water. I'm not clostrophobic, but just staring down that con tower... terrified me. Being on a boat on the surface, cautious but fine. Purposely sinking!! No fucking thank you.
@@notbonsai671yeah they made that decision. But if we as human beings can no longer empathize and have compassion for our fellow man then we on the surface are more fucked than the ones in that submersible.
@@notbonsai671you don’t have to agree with their choices or how they spent their money. But those who say they deserve it or happy that they may die, don’t want them rescued are awful and in need of a new heart. It’s NOT okay. I can’t even begin to understand why you or anyone would think that way
@notbonsai671 Ya, it's a risky thing they did. Yet people do stuff like that all the time. If an amusement park ride goes wrong and someone dies, which happens fairly often, you don't go "welp, no sympathy because they chose to go on that ride". Or somebody's parachute doesn't open, you don't just go "welp, shouldn't have skydived. Hard to have symathy." Or a rocket explodes going into space, or anything else. Why would that make it any less of a tragedy?
The part that Brett didn’t touch on which I think is really important to the whole story is that the pilot of the sub was the owner of the company. He was shady businessman to say the least. He fired their chief safety engineer for pointing out that the vessel was not rated for the depth that they wanted to take it to. Defrauded potential customers out of several hundred thousand dollars. And to top it all off, avoided having the vessel undergo rigorous safety checks which is the standard for any deep sea submersible for the sake of “not hindering innovation.” Sounds to me like the guy just wanted a quick buck and wanted to cut corners to make as much as possible off of his customers. For his complete disregard of safety for other human lives, he deserves to be at the bottom of the ocean. It’s just unfortunate that everyone else on board the vessel had to suffer the same fate.
Not only that there are interviews where the ceo talks about not hiring experienced submariners because they're all old white guys and he wanted his crew to be more diverse. Totally this dudes fault
@@OneJumpMan33 Doesn't mean we should wish death on people which is the point. What's done is done. Those people didn't care whether it's the guy's fault or not. They just hated him because he was rich. And by proxy, everyone else on that trip. Hell the 19 yr old just wanted to spend father's day with his dad and originally didn't want to go. Nobody deserves to die. Doesn't matter if you're the scourge of the earth. I'm just happy death was instant. Something we all could wish for.
As someone who lives on the water, lives on a boat and has been trained as a diver, there is nothing worse I can think of than to be in this situation, knowing you are going to die slowly and no one may know what happens to you.
yes being stuck and running out of air would be horrible, considering some of the dodgey engineering on the sub it is most likely it was a catastrophic failure.
Yeah, I think I’m done reading comments now 😅😂, people like you I have so much respect for. I can’t do that I have to much of a phobia for the deep and it’s getting triggered big time by this video and comments 😅😂. Coincidentally enough the thing that cause my phobia was the creature at 3:47
Do you just like… slowly fall asleep? If they run out of oxygen? :( I can’t imagine being in that situation… Them not releasing weight, floating to the surface, or using the “backups” makes me think they are stuck, or are already hopeless… but I’m really trying to hold out hope for all of them. That is so heartbreaking
I guess now you know what fish goes through for a unnecessary reason ( a meal for a human ) Shame more people can't extend their sympathies to non human animals .
No matter how stupid you think someone is, you do not wish them death. There are five people stuck in a submarine, suffering and hoping someone will come save them. What's worse is that they fired an employee who would not green light the submarine because the windows were only made to go down 1,800 ft when the Titanic shipwreck is about 4,000 ft deep and they just didn't want to pay for windows that could stay in tact with the high water pressure
Exactly. That's why I have no sympathy not for any of the OceanGate representatives on the sub because they maxed out their stupid meter. It is a perfect example of winning the Darwin awards. The other guys were likely suckered into it though which is unfortunate and I can sympathize with their families.
As someone who has served aboard a submarine, and understands how terrifying being hundreds of feet underwater is, resurfacing and coming back home after weeks is the best feeling to anyone on a submarine.
As far as submarine goes, this is a pretty dangerous design, it’s a shame they didn’t hire experienced retired and active submariners to go over there safety features and procedures. I don’t think they have any scrubbers on there only an oxygen supply and it’s an oxygen rich sub, with no way to get out. I don’t mean any disrespect, but catastrophe was inevitable eventually it was going to happen.
@@SuperDriver379 yeah, its not on the surface, the Coast Guard and Canadian military would have found it. It probably can't travel any faster than a brisk walk so to think they are more than a few miles from the ship that brought them there is just empty wishing. I doubt they fell below crush depth, you would hope it is capable of much greater depths than the Titanic wreckage. They had redundant systems to return to the surface, but they didn't seem to use them, so my guess is a hull breach. At least they died instantly. If they were sitting on the bottom, only the US Navy would have the tiniest chance of locating them and that is if they would be willing to redeploy assets and they could get there in time. Even then there are no rescue vessels anywhere near and that is if the Navy hasn't scrapped them.
But he was a terrible person. He literally murdered his passengers through deliberate neglect: The viewport at the forward of the submersible was only built to a certified pressure of 1,300 meters, although OceanGate intended to take passengers down to depths of 4,000 meters. Lochridge learned that the viewport manufacturer would only certify to a depth of 1,300 meters due to experimental design of the viewport supplied by OceanGate, which was out of the Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy ("PVHO") standards." So they weren't x-raying or checking for structural fatigue after dices, the window is only good to 1500 m, and they ignored safety protocols... And didn't disclose this to potential passengers.
Absolutely horrible that so many people are wishing ill will on those explorers who did nothing wrong. I hope some kind of miracle happens and that they are rescued. Thoughts and prayers from Texas.
Jealousy is pretty disgusting. That's what these people are all about. They're jealous they don't have money. (but won't do anything to change that and would rather be useless, disgusting people)
There aren't alot of fail safes at crush depth. It is kind of like going missing in space. I guess the bobbing on the surface is a slim chance. But it is a submarine and therefore has a low profile. Would radar even detect it?
The actions of the Suleman Dawood I think speaks volumes of his character. I didn't know him personally, but he set his fears aside to make his father happy. He is an admirable young lad and the people who speak negatively of the victims just because they had money is disgusting. Rest easy.
He sounded like a kid who didn't want to be on it, but according to the news. Really wondering if he actually wanted to go on but was just scared (some people are deathly afraid of things and that's normal), or if he was guilte, forced or threatened.
As someone who has followed this situation from the beginning. My heart breaks for those on board and their families...even the company and military looking for them. It just boils my blood people would celebrate. Someone responded "Rich people problems." to my saying I was praying. I was flabbergasted and disgusted!

Yeah, I've seen people range from joking about their friends finding them all the way to wishing people like Biden or Trump dead in that sub. It's astonishing that there is SO little regard to the families or to human life in general. I already know that those families will sue the living CRAP out of Oceangate.
Calm down, the memes are making fun of the structural integrity of the submarine, and how it was put together by basically cardboard and toothpaste and looks like it was made by a 4 year old. It’s not that deep.
The people who went knew the risk and the chance that they could possibly die. That , as well as the fact that these were wealthy people, doesn’t make this any less horrific/tragic . But because we live in an age where people would slaughter the unborn in millions just to keep their current lifestyle human life has no meaning to them.
Zero empathy. Only empty, soulless people could ever wish such tragedies on people. Im agnostic, and seeing so many beatiful religious people praying for them, has honestly been pushing me closer to god the past few days. I am questioning so much just because of the way people are behaving about this.
I don't care one bit for David Pogue. He's in the Elite club, tweet about Vaccine and herd immunity, talk about Wef and Climate change. He's a pyramid follower, so good riddance. The rest of the crew make me sad
I would not wish this on anyone. Absolutely terrifying situation. But I still can't wrap my head around the fact that they would spend that much money to go down on something as unsafe as this. I hope they are found safely soon.
To be honest this is the first time such a situation has been worldwide news. Obviously submarines have sunk in the past (particularly during times of war) but before now public perception was probably that it wasn't so dangerous.
Lots of people have things they want go see or do so badly that they feel that it would be worth spending anything or risking anything (including their lives) for. However, many, many people also can't really imagine a universe without themselves in it, so the the idea that they could actually die feels more abstract than real.
I personally don't think it was made clear to them...they'd be viewing 'something' through a TV camera. on a tiny screen, the same image (the EXACT SAME IMAGE) they could have gotten on shore via a ship sending down an RCV. It's like going to a Rolling Stones concert, sitting WAYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyy in the back and viewing the "concert" on a giant monitor. So this horror story proves one thing, right? Let's hire MORE woke employees as soon as possible. Their ineptness proves why they should be subjected to the SAME degrees of competency as anyone else.
The best thing that could happen is if it implodes when the comm was gone less than 2 hours from starting the descent because no one would suffer, they wouldn't even know that happen. But being trapped inside that thing knowing you will die in 4 days along with other 4 people must be absolutely horrifying.
My family did a submarine tour in Hawaii when I was seven and the only thing I was afraid of at the time was a shark maybe getting too close. My Mom sat with me and she kept pointing out all of the cool ocean life around us and it helped. However, I couldn't imagine being in the situation all of those missing people are in. It is truly terrifying and the people being so callous and unfeeling about it are heinous. I do feel that outside of scientific exploration, the Titanic should just be left to rest. I've watched documentaries about recovered objects being auctioned off rather than being curated in a museum. I'm not above spending money on stupid crap sometimes, but no one needs to own one of the dining menus.

I don't think it is accurate to say they knew. From what I heard they picked up noise that was probably the sub imploding. An employee called David Lochridge repeatedly brought up concerns about the thickness of the hull and the fact that the windshield was only able to be rated to 1300 meters when the sub repeatedly did dives over 3 times this depth. Additionally no tether was used, as mentioned the sub could only be opened from the outside, and the sub had already been lost for hours during dives before. Unfortunately this was an accident waiting to happen and my prayers are with all aboard. This is an experimental vessel and it is unlikely that the people onboard even knew the risks.
They did know the risk. A passenger who went on this before said they had to sign a waiver because of how unregulated the sub was and that death is mentioned on the first page 3 times
Now I'm beginning to have a little bit of a hard time feeling bad for these people. They absolutely should have known this. Whether they were told or asked, they should have had this information either way, which makes everyone on board extremely wreckless and irresponsible.
@Lynn-vf7lf That's understandable. After finding out more about the vessel, I'm beginning to have a hard time feeling that bad for them when all of them knowingly got on there and went that deep when there was a huge possibility of it imploding the whole time. All of the glass on it was only rated to go a third of the depth they were going to, so its possible that they never even made it the whole way down. It was just so incredibly irresponsible. And if they didn't know to begin with, they should have asked these questions before ever getting on board to begin with. So, this is really completely on them. Who I really feel bad for right now more than anyone is their family members.

UnfortuNtely they are dead The window manufacturer only warranteed the window to 4000 ft. The company didnt want to pay and take the time to create a window that could be proven safe to 12000 ft. From my observations, it appears that envy frequently incites individuals to respond in an adverse manner, sometimes even resorting to negative online interactions, irrespective of the nature of life events, be they positive or negative. This raises the question of whether one's close circle, primarily family and friends, truly have one's best interests in mind.
it’s so sad to see those comments made about the people on the sub. yes, they have money, but they are still people with real lives and feelings. the fact that people are showing zero remorse for a son still in his TEENS is heartbreaking, i’m praying for not only the people on the submarine but also the twisted ones hoping for their downfall.
I’m just shocked that this company doesn’t have a backup sub on standby for just this type of situation. You would think that regulations or insurance companies would demand it.
It appears submersibles currently don't fall under any sort of concrete regulations and I doubt they are insurable as an asset for that reason. It would be interesting to know more about the liability insurance of the business and what was specifically excluded in the liability coverage. The participants signed documents acknowledging that they were aware this was an experimental vessel and that the trip came with inherent risks including the possibility of death. Information has been brought forward tho that some critical elements were knowingly incorporated that weren't up to spec without disclosure of this information to those who signed up for this. It may get interesting from a legal perspective if there is concrete evidence of gross negligence as the liability waivers may not stand...who knows. I can only hope that by some miracle these people are alive on the surface somewhere and will be found before it's too late.
It wouldn't matter! There's only just a few submersibles that can reach these depths. Think of it like Mr. Everest...The elements make it next to impossible to survive in. Yes, people survive the climb and descent of Everest, but we know the elements are just treacherous. There are, unfortunately, quite a few dead bodies on Everest, yet, no one can bring them back, because it's too dangerous and just to risky. As of right now, in my opinion, there's not much anyone can do.
Misery doesn’t care if you have more money than other people. There is a 19 year old stuck on that sub in addition to the other poor souls trapped there - people are brutal

People die everyday. Don’t pretend you actually give a damn about this situation. When you go do certain activities you should be aware of the risks that are included with it. The worst part is that the people boasting about their indifference, and even glee, in regard to the (very likely) loss of human life-- and a loss of life in a really horrific way-- seem to be the same sort of people who love to go on about how "compassionate" and "tolerant" they are-- the type who love to scold others for their lack of "empathy" when it comes to their views on political or fiscal policy. For the submariners, a Big Thank You for Your Service! The person ultimately resposible for this accident, Stockton Rush, happens to be on board on the Titan. I don't wish death on anyone but this is a great example of money doesn't = smarts. Too many red flags with the company for any calculating person too risk their lives. I wouldn't be willingly bolted into any space with no means of escape. Much less 2.5 miles underwater in an experimental craft made by a man that had ambition over safety in mind. Sure hindsight is 2020 but you think some billionaires might do some fact checking. One of them also took his son to his demise on this submarine.
I've followed the Titanic story for many many years now, and have seen a lot of the expeditions that has been to the Titanic. The Titan sub is the first private sub that can get to that depth. Robert Ballard who found the wreck in 1985 first used a manned sub called "Alvin", one of the first sub that could reach nearly 4km/2.5 mi. Ballard eventually used a ROV to further search, and eventually found the Titanic. More subs went over the following years, many in the 90s involving PH Nargolet (who is the Titanic expert on the Titan sub currently). But I wanted to compare a particular sub to the Titan. It is called the MIRA subs. They were the subs used by James Cameron to film footage of the real Titanic for the 1997 movie. (As a fun fact, when you see only one submarine in the movie, that is the real Titanic, when you see both then that is footage of a large model of the bow wreck). The MIRA sub marines were quite revolutionary for the time. Having similar safety feature as the Titan like the drop weights, ballast balloon and so on. But additionally the MIRA subs always went down in pairs, so if one sub had an issue the other is there with them. The sub also had an orange painted top to it, so if it was bobbing on the surface, it can easily be seen. The entrance hatch is a small but thick hatch that can be opened from both the inside and outside. And importantly it is on the top of the sub so they can open it on the surface and get able to get out and get more air. The sub has two arms to cut or move stuff they need. Later on also using a small ROV that can be controlled by the sub. Compare that to the Titan sub, it seems like we haven't considered the old safety methods because of our confidence with the new tech. But as some misconceptions, the concerns for the sub going missing wasn't at the point they lost contact. With it being so deep the signal is extremely poor and at Titanic signals cannot reach the surface. So the loss of communication was expected. The worry started when they didn't resurface in the given window. Which is when the coastguard was contacted. Even though Starlink is now being used for the first time on this expedition, the sub doesn't use Starlink. The sub uses different methods to communicate underwater. Starlink is used for thr surface vessels to talk to other ships or the land. Which is why we have the updates we have. This isn't Titans first expedition. It has been going to Titanic since 2019, and has proven to work rather well at Titanic. But in this case it seems there may have been an unanticipated issue or failure. But after all this is done, there will be inquiries and regulation changes I am sure. Hopefully, mandating safety aspects like from the MIRA subs or even Alvin.
This is so horrifying and tragic. My heart goes out to these people and their families. I could never do this kind of trip. Imploded. Crushed out of existence in milliseconds. Far better outcome than a suffocating death lasting days.
They wouldn't have seen it coming or felt a thing.
It imploded not exploded they were basically crushed to death under the pressure
It imploded. The water crushed the craft in an instant.
This sucks

If an amusement park ride goes wrong and someone dies, which happens fairly often, you don't go "welp, no sympathy because they chose to go on that ride".
Or somebody's parachute doesn't open, you don't just go "welp, shouldn't have skydived. Hard to have symathy."
Or a rocket explodes going into space, or anything else.
Your an arsehole at best even if he was a shady businessman he obviously Thought is was safe he was on board!

Why I skipped the navy.
As far as submarine goes, this is a pretty dangerous design, it’s a shame they didn’t hire experienced retired and active submariners to go over there safety features and procedures.
Celebrating a death of any person (that wasn't just a really horrible person) is just terrible and I can't belive it.
But he was a terrible person. He literally murdered his passengers through deliberate neglect:
The viewport at the forward of the submersible was only built to a certified pressure of 1,300 meters, although OceanGate intended to take passengers down to depths of 4,000 meters. Lochridge learned that the viewport manufacturer would only certify to a depth of 1,300 meters due to experimental design of the viewport supplied by OceanGate, which was out of the Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy ("PVHO") standards."
So they weren't x-raying or checking for structural fatigue after dices, the window is only good to 1500 m, and they ignored safety protocols... And didn't disclose this to potential passengers.

That was very informative and eye opening. Thank you for sharing this information.
They did know the risk. A passenger who went on this before said they had to sign a waiver because of how unregulated the sub was and that death is mentioned on the first page 3 times
They should have known the risk its on them.
You couldn't pay me to do this. I can't swim, i fear water that's over my head, and this would be the totality of my worst nightmare.

The window manufacturer only warranteed the window to 4000 ft.
If there are only 3 subs in the world that can go that deep the owners of the other 2 aren’t going to be your reserve.
Kinda ironic. Titanic was known for having too few lifeboats & now the same story happens again.

Thank you. I hate how people acted. I blocked a lot of accounts and unsubed so many
I've followed the Titanic story for many many years now, and have seen a lot of the expeditions that has been to the Titanic.
Thank you for this, I had no idea this sub had been down there before.
Thank you, I found the information you provided very interesting, to better understand what happened. All the best.
