@@themacocko6311 it wasn't that, there was an expectation of respecting other people's boundaries... and not being a public nuisance. The self diagnosis crowd (as a movement) started as less of an attention seeking crowd than a sociopolitical one... largely as a pseudo-feminist movement to bring attention to under diagnosed females by cosplaying them and becoming their 'voice' -- which got swept up and weaponized by the privilege stack. You'd find this crowd, nearly all girls, starting echo chambers on livejournal. Some remnants remain... it went into overdrive with tumblr and in particular, the public recognition of Temple Grandin.. which in the fandom of, became code for secret genius without having to apply oneself. As a movement, they would take on many autistic organizations as well as targeting the families of a few reality docu series about autism - offended at those showcasing severe autism under the guise of social justice politics, this of course, extended to other mental health condtions as well as trans (though, trans folly was largely a former president turning it into an issue against the greater trans community's wishes, which ended up overwriting the medical standard and the old guard being called gate keepers, you can find some of those remnants on youtube, where many of these trans trenders were quite hostile to actual trans people as well.) -- you see it happen with many demographics, not just mental health, the co-opting of identities, and with dysfunctionally, often from the crowd screaming about appropriation the most... they end up becoming the faces of said conditions and movements, which causes more conflict and spreads greater ignorance to a largely unknowing public. But there's always being an discomfort with mental health... much of the public thinks of care as something out of victorian bedlam, they feel sympathy for the fictional protagonist of Clockwork Orange despite he was a violent sexual predator. He also has garnered a sense of hero worship for some. Mental health issues with children is even worse... in how lightly the public takes it and is conned into believing they need to provide safe spaces, let them act like Helen Keller before she was forced to adapt to the rest of society.
It's also, mental health conditions have become permanent in this age... badges of honor, when they used to be something that many people could recover from or even outgrow. Now to be diagnosed as a child is have a lifelong label, largely medical fashion, and never learning to cope with their disability or adapt to the world... permanent victimhood... that is chronically abused and misappropriated to create chaos and conflict, to excuse bad behavior.

@Corey Brown Gaming It's not exactly a sign by itself, anybody can bounce their leg, you can't say anything for certain just from that. But it does fall into the "repetitive behavior" category, so it can become cause for suspicion if someone displays an awful lot of these signs. Even then, it's probably better not to think anything of it unless you notice other types of signs or your family has a history of autism.

As someone who genuinely has DID (diagnosed by a professional, alongside PTSD and depersonalization-derealization disorder), this is not how we work AT ALL and it's absolutely disgusting because we're already demonized in some media. I can't say the same for every other person with DID, but I went to a special group where people with DID met up and we all have very similar experiences which are NOTHING like the crap these kids are pulling.
DID comes from extreme childhood trauma (usually SA, like it was for me). According to one of my therapists it's usually when our childhood brains are finalizing our personality but the trauma doesn't allow our brains to do that. Instead, it takes different aspects of our personality and separates them in our minds. Or, at least, that's what I remember my therapist saying I wasn't totally paying attention.
Although the majority of us do have a "child part", it's not really like that one video. A lot of times it's like a snapshot of how we were back when our personalities fragmented. The child part is often surprisingly mature, it just has a more childlike nature. What makes me especially mad that people are pretending to have this is because the "child alter" is usually the "victim part" (from when we were abused) and not just a cutesy person that cuddles with stuffed animals.
They also often showcase an alter that's edgy/emo/evil/etc. Many of us have a part that can be "mean" but it is what's known as a "protector part/alter". It is the alter that fights back when we feel threatened because we couldn't fight back when we were being abused.
There's something called a "Karpman drama triangle" that my therapist (and apparently a lot of other therapists) use to describe what sometimes happens with alters. There are three roles in a dysfunctional relationship: "Persecutor", "Victim", and "Rescuer". A lot of alters follow the karpman drama triangle to mirror/mimic the abuse because of trauma.
We often have a persecutor part that has held a lot of our anger and takes it out on others. For me, I couldn't control this alter and I often couldn't even remember what happened (a blank in my memory) and people would tell me that I stood up straighter, got this look in my eyes they'd never seen before, and was just plain cruel. Usually it was verbal but apparently I did attack my sister and mom once when I was in a situation I felt threatened in.
The victim part is often the childlike part taking the place of our younger selves. It is NOT an actual child. For me, this is the one alter I have not integrated with yet, but I don't have a strong desire to do so. For me, she is more energetic, has a higher voice, and really likes cute things.
The rescuer part is one I never really had, which may be because I had no rescuer (I ended up rescuing myself), but I often had other alters that didn't fit any of the other categories, if that makes sense.
Our alters are not completely different people. They are simply fragments of our personality/identity that are separated from us. I can be childlike without switching to my childlike alter. I can be rude without switching to my persecutor part.
My therapist (and all the other people of the group's therapists) encourages us to "integrate" our parts. We do our best to bring all the parts into one as we heal.
Sorry for the essay. I realize many people have different experiences with DID (one girl in the group was COMPLETELY different from the way I worked) but this is simply mine and what I remember one of my therapists saying.
It's not fun to live with at all. I hurt many people that I do not remember even hurting, I had to go to a mental hospital for 6 months because of how it affected me, and I had so much going on in my mind that I thought I was going insane.
Don't use DID to be quirky and don't self-diagnose yourself with it. It may seem "cool" but it's really not. I would do just about anything to erase what happened to me and get rid of all the side effects that came along with the aftermath.

If you want to see a good exploration of DID, play Xenogears. It's a great game and has one of the best and most accurate portrayals of DID I've seen in any media. It's also a major part of the story, not just some obscure side quest character. I highly recommend it, but do be warned the game is infamously hard to find. You can only find it physically on PS1, (playable on a backwards compatible PS2 or PS3) the PS3 PSN, or via emulation. I may also be part of the revamped PS+ mirroring Xbox's game pass but IDK.

Just wait for that one person that says that you're lying or whatever cos they have DID. This happened to me recently on another channel. Because I also stated that these alters can't just be made up on the spot as a adult and the condition develops in childhood. So fictive alters based on characters they've seen on a TV show recently and want to mimic isn't DID, its just cosplay and its faking alters. I only know I have this condition because others was scared of me cos I had no control over it. Now i have better control over myself and we are working together. I've never tried to treat my alters like separate people they are a part of me i just need to gain better control.

As a mother to none-verbal autistic twins, it really unsettles me that people would fake autism. I see my boys & how their world works, the troubles & issues they face day-to-day that the rest of us take for granted. I’m aware how different life is going to be for them & the things they won’t get to do or experience due to their complex needs or issues. There’s been many heartbreaks over this diagnosis. I have to fit into their world, most of our world isn’t accommodating for them & their needs (lack of disability facilities, quiet areas & safe spaces to self-regulate during a meltdown episode, allocated SEN sessions/less crowds & noise). I actually wish they had a different life, for themselves. It’s not a quirky trend. And here you have people wanting that?! No, they just want the ‘cute’ parts (the stims) which is only a minor part of autism. I never see them sharing the painful, overwhelming, exhausting, meltdown parts.
In other news : Most autistic stims are more subtle, hand flapping & ear flicking are really common. It is extremely common for girls to mask autism too, so females tend to not outwardly stim, they usually get diagnosed later in life because of hiding it so well.
To stim as hard as these girls, usually you would be able to tell they’re autistic without being *told* they’re autistic. It would be noticeable.

OCD isn’t just needing everything clean and tidy, OCD can be scared to leave your house in case anything bad happens to your family. It can be looping back around a route in your car because you’re convinced you knocked someone over. For me I once brushed my teeth 19 times in an evening because every time I finished brushing them it didn’t feel ‘right’ so I would have to go back and do it again because my house would burn down if I didn’t.

I have autism, and as a person who regularly stims these people on TikTok disgust me. I was diagnosed with Autism when I was only 4 and have lived basically my entire life with it. It has caused my near infinite pain and tramua, and still haunts me to this day. The fact that there's people out there who fake, fetishize, and infantize my horrible illness absolutely disgusts me.
As for what my stims entailed, when I was younger (ages 5 to age 14) I would have these things called "episodes" where I would act out a TV episode in my head and verbalize the voice acting and sound effects whole using my hands as props to symbolize movement. While I was doing my "episodes" I became completely unaware of the world around me and became fully consumed in my fantasy TV show I was playing out. Episodes usually lasted at least an hour, sometimes more, and there were constantly ongoing arcs and storylines. When I got a bit older (10 to 14) I started adding more structure into my episodes, playing "imaginary Pokemon" with my brother which was basically us larping as Pokemon trainers with consistent rules and an ongoing story where we caught new Pokemon and tried to win every Pokemon league. I slowly stopped doing episodes as a got older as it was super weird to other people, starting with doing episodes fully in my head and then not at all.
However, my more traditional stimming including moaning, speaking in gibberish, flailing my arms around, and contorting my body only happens when I get significantly stressed and tension builds up in my chest. I can try to resist it if I try hard enough both otherwise I can't control my stimms at all. It feels like my brain is fried and I can't process sentences properly. It's horrible. Otherwise I act completely normally outside of when I'm stressed if a bit awkward.
As someone who stims myself, all these people are very clearly faking their stims. The girl with the black lipstick is probably the only really mentally ill one. She just seems completely insane and disturbed, possibly demon possessed. And people usually fake DID because they think it's "cool" or something. IDK the idea that multiple people live inside you and all share one body is a cool concept that a lot of media, even media aimed at kids, sensationalizes and glorifies. Only problem is that it exists in real life and is a serious mental disorder. So a lot of kids pretend they have DID so they can live out their fantasy of having themselves, their OCs, and even existing fictional characters all share the same body so they can roleplay as them. It's also used for gender exploration, so yeah. It's all just pretend roleplaying, these kids just put of a mask of "DID" to have their roleplaying have "legitimacy." Which is wrong since DID is a real thing and their game of pretend just serves to further make a joke out of DID and delegitimizes real mental illness.

There’s a lot of actual autistics on that app that would call people out like that, so at least there’s a minority of decent people in the platform.
If these people who haven’t seen their dad since childbirth got a disorder for a month, they would have to go through being infantilized, ableism, and masking, and they would wish they were neurotypical again.

"A feeling I can't ever explain but I just want people to stop using MY disorders for color and attention."
I think you explained it pretty well on the surface.
There are several other frustrations I think that they're just trampling the internet with:
      -It's appropriation of a disability
-They want to glamorise and popularise the disability NOT for the disability, but for their own benefit
-By stealing and glamorising YOUR disability, they prove themselves non-genuine and misrepresent the disability, often stigmatizing it
-Even though it's painfully obvious to you, what they're doing, social constraints determine that you're the bad guy if you complain about it.
-"Oohhh, you must be just like 'the good doctor' or 'Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory' "
-It's the same principle with 'R U OK' day and all that other shit.
Mainstream society would do better if it's leaders and great powers never put too much focus into one thing, but mainstream society can't fucking help itself as it throws a blanket response at an issue and then bathes in the praise that gets thrown at it for 'coming in to save the day'. Yet nothing changed.
My point again. You have the words. My suggestion when we struggle to find exactly what to say it's too break it down into smaller pieces. It's the type of web that won't allow you to cut the strings, because they're all tangled together.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult (34) and I want to know just how anyone thought it involved ticking and twitching violently, and smacking yourself in the head. What it ACTUALLY is, is disorganisation, the inability to concentrate, struggling to finish tasks, forgetfulness and tuning out. It does make life a bit more challenging, yes. But ADHD sufferers actually thrive in many situations and are very competent in chaotic or creative environments and professions. It's monotony, processes and rules that drive us crazy, so we do tend to struggle in a society that revolves around those things. It takes a lot of discipline to do the small things everyone else seems capable of doing. But we are NOT sitting there smacking ourselves in the head. How insulting and what a joke.

I didn’t even know she had DID until she asked me what my name was and seemed like a completely different person after we met just a few days prior. Even tho I wasn’t close with her (I only knew her for a little less than a month) and don’t really keep in touch with her, it makes me so irritated to see these people faking it because they create such a negative stigma around those who truly have it and might make them want to hide it due to embarrassment from how Emily from tiktok pretended to have 127 alters and all the mental illnesses known to man presents her fake DID

(READ THE WHOLE THING PROPERLY BEFORE COMMENTING)
As a person who stims, shaking your hands & arms is a common way to stim. I usually shake my hands a lot when I’m really happy.
Also people almost never stim in public. There is a thing called “masking” & that where autistic (also other nerodivergent people) people hide their autistic traits in public. That’s why you hardly see people stim in public. It’s a thing you usually do alone to express & deal with strong emotions. People will look at you weirdly or sometimes even bully you if you don’t mask.
Edit: also stiming can be anything. It can be super casual like bouncing your leg. It can also be violently shaking your arms. Different people have different ways to stim.
Edit 2: The person could still be faking, I’m not saying they aren’t. It’s easy to fake stims. I was just pointing out that it’s not a weird way to stim like that. I get how people think that me writing “It really doesn’t look like they are faking to me” is a way of saying they aren’t faking. I get that, & it was wrong of me. I meant it as another way to say it doesn’t look unusual to me.
Edit 3: I just wanted to explain that I wrote the comment because Pegasus said something along the lines of “You shake your arms violently & call it a stim” because shaking your arms violently could be a stim. It’s a similar way to how I stim sometimes. I also explained why you usually don’t see people do that in public. It’s still kinda weird to record it though. Also if you are going to comment something like “I know this person & they stim in public” I just wanted to say of course that could happen. That’s why I used words like “hardly”, “usually” & “almost” when talking about masking. There are exceptions to everything, I was just explaining how people usually mask in public & what masking was & how that effects how little you see of people stiming in public. I wrote the comment to explain things that he said, not saying that the person wasn’t faking. I’m not a random hater or anything, I’m actually a fan of Pegasus & have been watching him for a long time. I just wanted to educate him & others of what I know.

She said that it was small, unnoticeable changes when a different side is out. It would be like, for example, someone would often put their hair in braids if the angry side is out. You can barely notice it, and it’s not like they are all people. The different sides are mostly based on the emotion, you also wouldn’t realize you had DID unless you were properly diagnosed and you definitely wouldn’t name your different sides.

And the people afflicted never knew which personality had come out. They couldn’t do it on a whim. They only learned of the other sites after intense therapy and because they had memory breaks and would see odd things happen in the house.
One woman honestly though she had an intruder that kept coming back to her house because things were misplaced. Another couldn’t figure out why she had 11 bags of sugar (each personality got keyed in on that sugar was needed so they all bought some during the week).

As an autistic person I hate the word stim it makes the activity sound “fun and quirky” which is why this exact behaviour has developed. The word is used by people who want it to sound quirky and fun, so now you think of it like that. It wasn’t supposed to sound fun. The definition of stim is a repetitive movement, and “involuntary actions or behaviors” still wouldn’t be right because stimming isn’t always involuntary, and this could be used for tics too. I stim voluntary when I’m not paying attention, even if I don’t notice

    • @alexx3477

1:00 as a guy with autism, this basically a mockery of stimming, I have seen people who stim extremely before (as in like they act very unusual) but like that is extremely exaugurated. How I stim personally is based on my tics. I have been diagnosed with an eye tick, and a hand tick, and i tend to do my hand tic very often, like literally every few seconds, and somehow now my stim is basically my tic, my hand tends to tic more often when i stim. I honestly can't describe my hand tick it's very weird.
7:00 that's literally not how tics work, there are multiple types of tics, some being what my doctor calls "aggressive tics" which is tics that happen very often and you can't control and you dislike. there are other ones i honestly forgot the names to them but tics in general don't happen like every 1 second i assume. I can't say for everyone with tics because idk what extreme tics look like, and I personally never had it myself but i think it's VERY convenient for you to both have ADHD, have extreme tics that so happen to hit your head every second just for the camera

I'm autistic and literally the way tiktok infantilizes us is so fucking infuriating. A lot of us don't even like stimming around people? Even then we don't fucking flap our hands and jump around. Being autistic is stressful, there's a lot of things that I can't do or need done in a very specific way or I'll stress tf out.

9:33 funny how every alter speaks in the exact same way. Has the same mannerisms. And chews exactly the same.

Real stimming: hitting knuckles together when nobody sees. Swinging from side to side when standing. Shaking hands very slightly when super excited. Walking back and forth
Fake stimming: shaking the t-rex arms strongly. Moving every limb at max

You do realise that stimming is different for everyone? Not everyone is going to stim the way you deem to be “right” 😐

I don’t know about the chick in the video but I have a non-verbal autistic nephew and he swings his arms around and jumps when excited. Don’t talk about shit you don’t know nothing about. Not all autistic people stim the same way.
