  • In this video I give my hot takes on the first season of Star Trek: Deep Space 9. DS9 is one of my favorite shows of all time, it's an incredibly important pioneer in serialized television, and an excellent Trek show.
For years I hated this show and watched only the other Treks, but a few years ago the thirst for new Treks got to me and I decided to make the plunge and watch all of Deep Space 9. Although the first few seasons are a slog, they're more than made up for in the later seasons.
I think the most interesting thing about DS9 is how they 'boldy go' for new concepts and areas that other Treks didn't attempt to cover. This point of view is responsible for pretty much all of the greatness and all of the annoying failures of Deep Space 9.
I hope you enjoy my review of season one!

Two things that start strong in season 1 and just grow stronger in the following seasons are Jake & Ben’s relationship and Jake & Nog’s relationship. I think these are probably the best depictions (or one of the best )of the father/son relationship and friendship in Star Trek.

@@RobinReaction, I'm kinda up in the air about the last season and especially the last episode. Jadzia Dax missing from that season sticks out like a sore thumb. The chemistry she had with Sisko was great and sorely missed. The last episode was so sad with Sisko leaving and Odo leaving. I mean everybody left but Sisko's departure (and Odo's to an extent) felt permanent and not just moving on to another assignment. The last scene of Jake sitting on the promenade waiting for his dad hit me in the feels. It wasn't a bad final episode but it was kinda depressing. Star Trek: Enterprise's was the worst final episode for a Star Trek series and also depressing. lol

@@slou124 yes I definitely see what you're saying. I feel like the writers just couldn't let go of the chance to get another trill somewhere in the series so they just forced Jadzia out. I like Odo's departure because even though he fit in with the crew he was also always kind of sad about being different, I feel like in a different way than Data who was created by humans and wanted to be like them, plus the changlings need to learn not to be evil and I like that Odo would help with that. Yea Enterprise just jammed in sad deaths to make us feel bad, they should have brought back the villians from season 3 lol I loved that shit so much
