Love the review, I’m 14 years old and don’t have school cause of quarantine so I’m going to try to learn how to play the piano/keyboard!! :)
Giovanni Chavarin me and you both 😊 in so excited
Same
Good luck! 👍🏼
Hi Giovanni,
Have fun getting started! :)
-Jacques
Good for you buddy! I am 55 years old and the only hobby I have is dirt bike riding. I took 5 years of piano in my teens. I wish I had stayed with it. In fact I am looking at this video to buy a keyboard.
42 years of guitar. Just bought this yesterday on EBay for $200. It has a great rock organ sound, the piano works, very excited! Really helps to have another songwriting perspective.
Nice! Have fun getting started Jimmy.
-Jacques
about to come out as a musician once this quarantine is over
Davidyne Reeves omg, I thought I was the only one 🤣
Not by following his toturial (he doesn't do notes) and you will have to look for a toturial for every last thing + you don't learn anything like time signiture etc….....
You know you love your job when you don’t have to wear shoes 😁
One of the perks of having my own business and working from home! :)
-Jacques
Piano In 21 Days ikr 😁
You know you love your body when you don't wear shoes.
With shoes you basically let the ankles deteriorate because you don't use them, barefoot maintains all muscles in the feet, makes it less likely to get injured by spraining the ankle and such, improved balance and so on.
@@OriginalPuro My wife and kids and I only put on shoes as we're going out the door.
Why do Americans wear shoes at home... it's unhygienic
I'm a recording engineer/guitar player trying to get something inexpensive for my wife to learn on. Thanks for the review! I'm also pumped to give your course a try. I "learned" piano in music school, but I'd like to give a real shot this next year.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for commenting! Looking forward to seeing you on my full course enrollment list. :)
-Jacques
I’ve had this for almost 3 years now, it’s still good as new. Totally recommend it
Hi Marijo,
That's great! Thanks for sharing. :)
-Jacques
is it touch sensitive
Yes, it is. If you don’t like the sensitivity, you can configure it, there are some instructions to do so in the manual
is there an "electronic pedal" with it. I would like to stretch my tones if you know what I mean like you can do on a normal piano with a pedal.
maria schofer no, it doesn’t include a pedal but you could buy one. I bought an mgear pedal and it’s still good as new.
I've been playing for about 10 years, and throughout all the reviews that I've seen about other keyboards, this one would be a good fit for even professionals who just want a good gig keyboard. Will definitely be looking forwards to getting one of these!
Hello, I'm a beginner and I want to buy my first piano.
I have a little budget, but I look for quality. Also, I'm not sure if I keep playing piano in few years... 🤔
What do you recommend between the alesis recital, the alesis recital pro and the yamaha p45? (Or something else?)
Thank you for you respond 😊
Hi Auriane,
Between those three options and with your budget in mind, I recommend the Alesis Recital. :)
-Jacques
I've been reading some comments in Amazon... In all this time, have you had problems with the volume? I want to buy it, but I'm not sure if is a good product (I like the sound, I'm talking about quality)... Do you recommend me this one or the Artesia PA 88w?
Thanks for the video! It is very helpful
kind regards
Carlos.
Hi Carlos,
I haven't noted any issues with volume. I do recommend this model and for the price I feel the quality is quite good. I can't really speak to the Artesia since I have no experience with it. Best of luck regardless of which you choose!
-Jacques
Covid has given me the opportunity to practice piano and the guitar
Haha...same
I think the best beginner keyboard is the Williams legato lll 88 keys keyboard
I play violin and wanted to play piano but I'm kinda poor because I'm a kid so I need to wait for my birthday
Hi Fabian,
Happy early birthday! :)
-Jacques
Thanks for the review. I took a few years of piano lessons as a kid and grew up with a piano in the home - will this still feel good enough for personal use for someone just looking to try and re-learn piano?
Thank you so much for this video. I am definitely getting this piano as I am just a beginner and not sure if I want to stick with it.
what is a pretty good stand for this keyboard? i've been researching and haven't been able to find a solid stand that holds it securely. thanks in advance if you answer :)
Hi Koimasuu,
Please check out the link in the description, there's a keyboard+accessories option which includes the stand. :)
-Jacques
Will that casio that smells like smoke that you "found" at your local bar work?
Hi Nick,
It might! Just make sure it has at least 49 keys and a sustain pedal (you can buy one separately if necessary). And you may want an air freshener, too. ;)
--Jacques
Thanks man ;)
No shoes, no problem.
I've been looking for cheap yet good pianos so I can try and learn piano, and this is the best I can find so far. Do you need the accesories/kit stuff when your starting out? I got a 200$ budget
I heard the top keys of this keyboard don't actually sound like a piano but just a flat sound of the hammers hitting, is it true? I'm doubting of buying this piano because of this; also, does it have semi-weighted or hammer action keys?
Hi Juan,
This is semi-weighted, and I haven't noticed the audio issue you've mentioned. Any piano or keyboard will have a lighter sound to the extreme right side, but I enjoy this model and have no big complaints about it. That said, only buy something you feel comfortable with! :)
-Jacques
We can see your bare feet
I have one! It’s really good! I recommend!
Hi Fawuhn,
Nice! Thanks for sharing your recommendation. :)
-Jacques
hey is the keyboard touch sensitive? i want to buy a full keyboard that is touch sensitive, my budget is around $200
My current keyboard has around 60 keys and has a very light and cheap feel. When i googled it i found out it has "lighted keys." my house has a real piano which i much prefer using, but it is very old and not always in tune. Also the room its in has very high ceilings and is hard to heat so we block it off and its freezing in there. I hope the semi weighted keys on this feel much more like the real piano. thanks for the review
Hi there,
60 keys is definitely enough to get started with, but I can understand wanting to play on something a bit more substantial than your current keyboard. Best of luck!
-Jacques
get the alesis recital pro instead. it has hammer action. this one only has semi weighted keys.
Jacques I am from India and I just wanted to know that can a 61 key keyboard be enough for beginners? Because my parents won't buy me a one with 88 keys?
Hi Nirmala,
Yes, 66-keys is fine! You really just need 49+ keys to start. :)
-Jacques
Thank you! 👍
You're welcome Jonny!
-Jacques
So I looked on Amazon and I heard a lot about how the Alesis keyboards lose their volume after awhile, so I'm wary of buying it. What would you say about this?
Hi Skye,
I have not experienced that with this model or the other Alesis models I've had in the past.
-Jacques
Skye R I heard the same thing and I don’t know whether or not to buy it
I have a grand piano so I'm just looking for a lightweight that I can bring with me and also use earphones so I can play whenever. I was more interested in the 66 keys. The 88 is so long. I've already bought the Go keys but I'm sending it back. I really wasn't impressed with the feeling of the keys or the sound. I was thinking of the Casio 61-Key Portable Keyboard CTX700. Thoughts?
Hi Lou,
If you want that more compact size, the Casio should be fine! I haven't played that specific model but as long as you make sure you get a sustain pedal you should be all set. :)
-Jacques
Thank You @@PianoIn21Days
Im a beginner and have never owned an actually digital piano or keyboard or anything. I have had people from a few different piano musical discords say that this would be a bad pick. And here i read in the comments everyone praising how good this is. Im beyond confused what to go with and am having a tremendously hard time deciding.
is it touch sensitive
Yes it is! And semi-weighted keys give it a pretty nice feel. :)
-Jacques
This is probably the most helpful video on UA-cam
Hi Mobin,
Thanks, that's great to hear! :)
-Jacques
Every amazon review says that stand does not fit the keyboard properly. Anybody find a better stand for it?
Hi. I'm thinking about getting the alesis harmony 61 and wondering if this is okay. I am a fresh beginner and wanted something a bit smaller and slightly more cost effective.
How would it feel and compare to a Steinway?
I know it sounds ridiculous but I’m used to playing on Steinway upright.
Hi Hallam,
A keyboard's always going to be at a disadvantage to an acoustic piano in some ways! Don't get me wrong - I like this model and feel happy playing it myself. But it's not a Steinway. ;)
-Jacques
Just Buy A Roland Dude.
Stupid it's like saying can you compare a banana to iphone ( a company)
Idk why I’m watching this.. I’ve been taking lessons for 10 years, have a baby grand, and a Casio Privia 350... still a great video 👍
Hi Henry,
Thanks for watching! :)
-Jacques
hey piano in 21 days, i just purchased this keyboard based on your recommendation :) i noticed that it didn't come with a chord to connect to my laptop to record, i was wondering if you could let me know which chord i'd need to purchase. also, i noticed the keys are fairly hard to push down, will that be the case with most keyboards in this price range with semi-weighted keys? i'm liking it a lot so far though!
Hi there,
This isn't a MIDI keyboard, but it does have a USB-MIDI output. Please check the user manual or the Alesis website for setup questions. :)
As to the weighted feeling you're describing - that's what you want. That's what gives a more authentic feel and you will get used to quickly! Have fun.
-Jacques
"I like learning song in much better way" - intro. I have a friend who is good with piano he learns by ear then already know how to play. he even talks like u. how u guys even do that.
It's a rare condition...sort of. It's called perfect pitch. They can tell what note is being played just by listening. It's only in a few people, I forgot how much it was but it was something crazy like ever 1 in 1k people have it naturally
my school does have a piano and I was thinking that I should ask the Director ( btw I am the only person in the school who know to play the piano, even the music teacher doesn't know lmao) but I don't think she will let me STO- I mean get the piano ;(
Lmao same here, theres an upright piano closed up in a fucking little room, looks like they just left it there to die, anyhow, i asked the director if i could play the piano maybe during recess time but he didnt really care lmao, why the fuck would you buy a piano if you dont let students play it.
@@classicallofi5304 YES! THAT'S ANNOYING!
Great review. Love your channel btw. You have an incredible way to explain things in a relaxed voice that makes things easy to comprehend.
Hi Leffy,
Thanks for your comment! I really appreciate it.
-Jacques
Does it have velocity sensitive keys or nah
If you've ever played an acoustic piano, does this piano have almost the same feel as it, many keyboards I play have lighted keys so im worried it might feel like that thx
Hi there,
This is a good compromise between budget and feel because the keys are semi-weighted. Fully-weighted keys would feel more authentic, hammer action would be the best in terms of replicating the acoustic experience. I don't recommend lighted keys because they become a visual crutch that can prevent progress.
-Jacques
@@PianoIn21Days
I have the Recital Pro and for a beginner it is good. I would recommend it for the price.
Hey man. I know it sounds like an obvious question. But as I'm interested in this keyboard could you please tell me which is better: the alesis recital, or the alesis recital pro. The alesis recital is surprisingly more expensive so I just wondered. Thank you
Damn I want it
Is it touch sensitive?
I think i will invest in a Digital piano. right now, i am using an antique $5,000 organ that i am hoping to sell. i use it for piano cause it’s has an option for it
Hi there,
Sounds like a plan! And if you can sell your organ for even half that price you'll have more than enough to get set up with a top-quality new instrument. :)
-Jacques
Wanna sell it to me? Lol
Is it like a pump organ or digital organ, how many manuals and keys?
Hi Jacques, thanks for doing all these videos, from France ! I'm 14 and I am an absolute beginner ^^ I really love piano and classic music, and I think I'm gonna buy this one.
But am I gonna be disappointed by the difference between this piano and a big accoustic one ? Because I listen a lot of classic music like Beethoven ( my favorite is the Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement ) or Chopin ( 25 Etude ❤ ) and I don't know if it's really totally different or if the sounds are quite the same.
Thank you if you have time to answer !
- Lenzo
Hi Lenzo,
Thanks for your comment! This model has semi-weighted keys, which is a nice compromise that keeps the keyboard pretty lightweight/budget-friendly, plus still has a good feel and sound when you play it.
That said, if you want to match the feeling of an acoustic piano, a fully-weighted keyboard could be good for you, such as this one: amzn.to/2r9hNsE. :)
-Jacques
Do it. It will be crazy at 30 or 40 years old with your new acoustic piano. The one that you dream of.
Thank You for your help, Jacques and Jean Philippe ! I buy the Alesis recital.
Have nice days,
Lenzo.
Does anyone know if you can upload virtual instruments from your daw to the keyboard by chance? Has anyone with a few years of experience playing it have feedback on its overall quality?
Hi Caleb,
This model doesn't have that option - this is a great basic option but it's not going to serve the purpose of a synth or a MIDI controller in terms or versatility.
-Jacques
I hate you already started to sing your song and just left it there XD. Thanks for the review !!
Thanks for the review! I'm not a beginner. I played for about four years 20 years ago. Is this still a good option for someone like me who's re-learning how to play?
Sir, I am interested in piano. In December 2018 I got myself a Casio ctx 870 which has normal keys. I have decided to stick with piano.
Now I feel that I need to upgrade to some higher level. To a digital piano or midi keyboard (nektar impact lx88+ , semi weighted) having semi weighted or weighted keys.
Yamaha p45b has fully weighted keys and has price higher than Alesis Recital. Which one should I go for?
Please help me sir.
Hi there,
Thanks for your question! It really depend on your budget, but if you have a choice then fully-weighted keys are great. :)
-Jacques
So is it worth it to get the Recital Pro? It cost $350 I see it has extra features but do you think it sounds better?
Hi Eduardo,
Thanks for your question! The Recital Pro is a bit more on the luxe side, especially in how it feels as you play. That's due to the fact that it has fully-weighted keys compared to this model's semi-weighted ones. It all comes down to your budget and needs. :)
-Jacques
Sorry. Clickbait that contains virtually zero information about the Alesis and a lot about your piano teaching programs.
Im interested in buying this piano since im just starting, I have a question though.. does it sound good? Because when you played it in the video I felt like the sound was bad
Hi Zachary,
Thanks for your question! Personally I'm happy with the model and the sound quality, but obviously there is going to be better sound from a higher-end/more expensive type of keyboard. So you have to weigh your options with price vs. quality in mind. ;)
-Jacques
@@PianoIn21Days Thank you for answering
Go for the Alesis Recital PRO surely. A few bucks more but has to have a better feel being fully weighted. Just sayin'....
Hi Martoon,
I agree that the Pro does have a better feel due to full weighting! Not everyone can afford that model, but it's a nice choice for those who want to go several steps up from the regular Alesis Recital. :)
-Jacques
PIANO IS THE BEST NO ONE HATES PIANO
Learning piano in 21 days is a joke. No one is ever done learning an instrument. There will always be something new to do or technique to improve on. Also, piano is all about muscle memory. I don’t care who you are, you cannot master ever chord and be able to play them proficiently in so much as a year.
Just found one at the thrift shop for $50. I grew up playing drums with a piano in the house but wasn't interested then. Now I'm ready to learn!
So as you say to buy a cheaper keyboard first do you then mean this one? or do you mean a cheaper and the reward yourself with this one etc?
Hi there,
Thanks for your question! I consider this to be a good beginner option but also a nice middle ground between super-cheap/flimsy models and really pricey ones. You could easily use this long-term, but if you could also make the jump up to a fully-weighted version later as a reward for your progress. ;)
-Jacques
Would this be a decent option for busking? Please respond thanks!
This video was very informative! I'm a beginner & I'll like to purchase a keyboard but
I want to do my research. I found a used Williams Allegro 2 but I can't decided between that or this one. Any advice?
Hi Kathelina,
I'm not familiar with the Williams model you mentioned, so I definitely am partial to this one instead. Ultimately, just make sure you have 49+ keys and a sustain pedal and you should be fine. :)
-Jacques
Piano In 21 Days-Hey Jacques had an Allegro, they have 88 keys. Switched to their Legato cuz it had a synth setting. It’s exactly the same piano as that Recital(same factory? Alesis bought the brand?) Wanted to get a Recital tho cuz it’s same brand as my QS6 and SR18 drum machine. Plus you need an adapter to get a 1/4” out to an amp. Does the Recital have a 1/4” out jack? Thanks!!🎶
Looks like a good buy and I have a favorable opinion of Alesis, but have you looked at the Yamaha PSREW300? It's the replacement for the YPG-235 with a few more goodies. 76 keys, not 88, and costs more than the Recital but not that much more, and costs less than the Recital Pro. The PSREW300 and the Recital are both more than enough for a student or casual player but the Yamaha has LOTS more features. I can see someone outgrowing the Recital a lot sooner than one would outgrow the Yamaha, and in my experience Yamaha products are built like tanks. Just a thought. Great video and I just subscribed, looking forward to more!
Edit: after posting the above, *then* reading lots of the comments below and your very gracious attempts to reply to many of them, I apologize for throwing more, uh, stuff into the mix. Note to self: shut up!
Hi Jeff,
No need to shut up! I'm glad to be of help where I can. So I haven't played the specific Yamaha model you're referencing, but it's a good brand and likely to be a good option. Sometimes more features doesn't mean *better*, but as long as you have all the basics you need it can't hurt to have a few bells and whistles. ;)
-Jacques
Does this piano has it's own speakers?
Hi there,
Built-in speakers, yes. :)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! This works for me as a good middle-ground compromise between quality and price, but there's always going some greener grass no matter where you look. Good luck on your search! :)

Hey how is the build quality and sound please? Im thinking of buying it too
Hi Jacques, I was thinking to buy a Midi keyboard (Alesis 49) to start learn how to play. Is it enough to learn? Thanks mate
Hi Vicente,
That could work, as long as you get set up with software and a sustain pedal. Here's my video on how to choose the best instrument for your needs. :)
-Jacques
Hey I just came across your video while searching for keyboard. I used to play piano. I checked out another one video of yours, as you said you are not playing from piano sheets, the way you play is using midi file on computer software? Mind explaining this method to me?
Hi Wallace,
Thanks for commenting! I don't play from MIDI files, but I do use a MIDI at times when I'm recording directly to my computer. I actually use a chord-based approach to playing, so there isn't any sheet music involved. That makes things a lot simpler and fun! Please check out my channel for my other videos on this topic. :)
-Jacques
Yeah yeah, but how did you get your teeth so white?
Is it compatible with my computer, it's an acer i have Windows 10?
Hi Lisa,
It should be compatible but please read the product information before you purchase. :)
-Jacques
anyone heard of the alesis concert? is it better than this one? the price is pretty similar plus the concert has more voices. maybe someone heard of it need opinions wether to choose recital or the concert
How well does this keyboard translate to a real acoustic piano? Because there is a real piano on my school I want to play on, but I don't want to suck.
Hi Sebastian,
This is not going to give you the same feel, but in my opinion it's a decent compromise. You can definitely practice successfully on this and then transfer that knowledge over to an acoustic piano. Check out my "Piano Buying Guide" video for more tips on what to choose. ;)
-Jacques
Might be a dumb question, but can you plug in headphones to this keyboard?
Yes u can

the keys have resistance ? they feel a little more difficult to press than a regular cheap keyboard? i know it's a semiweighed keyboard but i have 0 experience with semi only know regular keyboards with 0 resistance and accoustic piano with heavy keys, how does it really feels to press a key of this keyboard? thanks
Hi Carlos,
They have a bit of resistance and weight to them that is closer to the acoustic feel than non-weighted keys. But if feel is very important to you, I recommend you go to a music store in your area to try some differentn models and get a better understanding of what the differences feel like. :)
-Jacques

hey just got my Alesis Recital and the first 23 keys dont work and make no sound can u help me?
Hmmm, sounds like something is damaged. Please contact whoever you purchased it from to resolve that issue. Fingers crossed!
-Jacques
The worst feeling is buying a non-sensitive key piano/keyboard and not knowing that sensitive and non-sensitive keys were important or even existed at all. And you know what's worser? Your mom not wanting to buy a sensitive key keyboard/or-piano\ because it's “expensive” and “If there's nothing wrong with your current piano then It's good”… ):
That's a bummer! But to a certain extent, that keyboard is still probably very useable. Do your best with what you have now, and then when you're able you can enjoy upgrading. ;)
-Jacques
Hey I started piano around October 2018 and I love it. Im about to get a piano and decided to get this one...but im worried about the sound... is there a head phone jack and how about the speakers are they good?.... an you tell me the bad side of it now since you had it for a few months now.
Hi Emmanuel,
Thanks for commenting! There is a headphone jack for this model and the speakers are standard quality - nothing fancy, but they get the job done! No big complaints that I've found so far. Like I've mentioned in other comments/replies, there's a lot to like here but also realistically this is a good middle of the road model, not meant to be a concert instrument. ;)

This works great for me and many people of varying skill levels! Having fully weighted keys would be even better (as in the Alesis Recital Pro) if that works for your budget, but this is a good compromise. :)

@@PianoIn21Days thnx for the reply! im gonna buy this piano for sure now!
@@janaharanmanoharan9775 did you get 61 keys or 88?
@@Alejandro-hd6dx 88 keys
So a year later, how has it held up? Do you still recommend it?
Hi Kristin,
I still do! Working fine and it's held up well. :)

hello, I am a beginner who is now approaching the world of the piano, I had already done lessons long ago because while singing I was forced to have a piano base. now I find myself here to choose which model to buy and which brand, currently among the cheapest and most positively quoted I found this alesis recital and the souidmy 88 keys have a difference of about 20 euros .. I would like to know in your opinion which would be the best thanks
Hi! I’m getting the keyboard in a week! Super excited! I have had some piano experience as a kid. Are the keys slippery at all? Would this keyboard be good for some advanced songs? Thanks! -Elle
Hi there,
Congrats! These keys feel pretty normal, not slippery in my opinion. And there's no reason why this can't be used to play advanced songs. Have fun!

How is the piano?
