Great build and run through Isaac. It's massive, but love that you've focussed on building it to be perfect for your trips and that you've fitted a compact canopy so that you actually get the benefit of the +300mm extension. Mike

I've got to say. Thank God for the 79 series. This platform has allowed everyone to build their dream rig. People have digs at the 79 for its stock failings but if your making big $$$ what other olatform gives you what a 79 does

MADDOG RIG my BULL on ya mate. Bloody love EVERY aspect of this Rig Mate. Only thing missing , I think is on drivers side slide out draw incorporate another slide out tray to work on if you have guns etc etc. Don't lose the depth of the draw just raise it to incorporate the full length slide out tray under it.
Not a fan of 79’s but that thing is a beast……A $250k+ beast but still a beast.

I love this build way better than those 2 big box canopies which I think are heavy.

This is a 79 and half series! Automotive engineering at its best. Keep it up guys!
Man we should be thankful to Toyota for this truck and they still kept it in production line and for making it super basic without any modern electronics.
Here in middle east these trucks are backbone and king of deserts we call them our modern camels. I'm seeing these trucks from 2002 when i was a 2yo kid i loved the older amber fog lights on separate lamps on front bumper i wish Toyota still carry that on, overall with modifications this truck is a true tank

Awesome set up Isaac. If you went the coils instead of the portals, would you recommend a full canopy for ride quality, or stick with the 3/4?
My other truck is coiled and it’s perfect with a compact

We can replicate it but it is not a cheap vehicle to build.

You actually need this amount of crap to go camping? Over here(Norway) I can fit everything in a backpack and I can camp on top of mountain peaks(which I do frequently).

Great machine. Have to say though, as a 70 series Primary producer owner who uses these things to ability every day, how you have to spend another 30K on an 80-90k under engineered, underpowered old tech machine. Not for the average person who cannot afford a machine built how they should have been from the dealer. Crap quality tech, features, idiot short rear axle tube, shit brakes, dinosaur engine, terrible dealer service.

The paint job is good. Not a bad colour.
its up there mate. You can take elements off the build and apply to most 4x4s. This is just how we felt we could build the best 79 possible.

Paint we can do all the door jams and door frames plus you can touch up paint easier

7:34 why not a single cab if it's only for two people? Bigger canopy, more weight over the axles, don't have to pay for the chassis extension, ect. Unless you're planning on making a big family buying a dual cab for two people to tour seems like wasted allocation of resource and space.
I built the dual cab as they are our biggest seller and heaps more leg room. I have a single cab on the build next.
Awesome rig! I’m starting the process of sorting out mine with the jmacx 3900gvm leaf kit. Tossing up between the 2 and 3 inch lift options. Is you setup with the portals equivalent to a 2 or a 3 inch standard lift? And if not what would it be equivalent too just for a reference?
You won’t get that size lift on a standard leaf kit. You will need portals and 35s and a 2-3 inch lift on top
@Norweld I'd like to hear Isaac talking more in-depth about his experiences in owning a coil conversion vs portal conversion 79 including his opinion on the 300mm extension. Pros & Cons, what are his thoughts and any guidance he can pass on. While pushing the Canopies ofc.
Not quite mate. It is a high end build but you can apply aspects of the build to any 79 series.

Would I be wrong if I guessed you've probably spent another 140-150K on mods??
If you go a deluxe lite canopy like this one on a base tray so it cannot be removed, is it still 1500 long and do you still have the same space at the back where the spare and jerry can holder is? I can't decide whether to go a tray and lite or a base and lite. I really don't think I'll take it off but I love the look of the headboard. Cheers
Canopy is the same length, just no headboard in front. Headboard is the way to go mate, a lot more flexibility

That's too much effort and money put into this lc. For people getting into overlanding let me tell you this looks cool but you don't need all these stuff to go out and have fun ✌🏼
You have totally missed the entire purpose of this build. This is how to put together the best possible Landcruiser using the best of Australian manufacturing.
Why you don't use solar fridge or freezers ? Icecoo etc
And solar generators which can provide 3.5kwh
Solar panels are used to top up the lithium battery but we use 12v fridge freezers in Australia. You will struggle unless you have bulk solar wattage on the roof. We choose to run two complete wiring systems in this car to give us 520ah of battery storage which is about a week without any solar or input needed

I don't understand why everyone puts the big antenna's on the front, right in your vision, why not behind the cab or something? Or foldable on the roof?
Other than that, looks absolutely great!
We need them. One is for the cel fi 4g booster. Once you grow up driving cars with them at the front you don’t even notice mate.
