This is rock. This is ROCK. Underrated band. Vocals, lyrics, composition, instrumentation. Awesome.
Damn right!!!!!
This song is so under appreciated; it is such a banger. The wailing guitars and screaming organ are epic; I think it is their best song. Ridin’ the Storm Out is really good, too.
This is what I came to say.... So I'll say "157 Riverside Avenue"
I agree, two of their best songs from their pre- Hi Infidelity days.
Don’t forget “Golden Country”
Favourite song for organ playes
Amen
I was at this exact concert . I’m the blonde guy wit glasses in the middle when they zoom out to the crowd and hands are in the air. This was magical live , you could feel the in the whole stadium . THIS WAS THIER ANTHEM !
🫂🫂🫂😭😁 wow! It makes me so happy to hear that from someone there. I saw them too bc I loved them and they were great, down right phenomenal. What’s crazy is, I didn’t realize how good they were. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the 70’s so everyone was good. Really good. It was a hell of a time. I look back now on ev live vid I can get just to see the smiles on the bands jammin’
Another kick-ass Classic Rock song from the 70's.
Now this is music! No fancy get ups or gimmicks, just kick ass in your face music!
One of the most slept on rock classics of all time. This song is a wall to wall banger.
I remember it clearly. It was 1987. I was in the Army in Germany. Sitting alone in my parked BMW. Some anonymous military building. It was a weekend...Saturday I believe. I was cranking this on my stereo and thinking...this is the best song EVER. So long ago. Ha ha. Still sounds good.
The members returned to school in the fall of 1967 and had their first rehearsal before classes started. They named the band REO Speedwagon, from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds.
I saw REO and Foghat in 76 or 77 both put on a great show ! REO was really good since it was before they started all the love song bull . In the 70's is when they were at there BEST...
say it 1 letter at a time R E O. They named the band REO Speedwagon, from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds.
1980… I saw REO Speedwagon in concert. It was a high energy concert!!!! Back in the 1970s…1980s…1990s….concerts were amazing!!!!
R-E-O speedwagon was a pickup truck manufactured in the 20’s and 30”s. It’s founder was Ransom E. Olds you might have heard of the automobile company Oldsmobile which was part of General Motors until 2004 when it was dissolved.
They also made firetrucks.
Time For Me To Fly is another fantastic song
Hugely successful band. Call them “pop rock” or “arena rock or
“commercial rock” or whatever you like. These guys could put on
a show! I’ve been waiting for awhile for someone to do some Billy Squire.
He was from the same era and had a string of hits. Anybody remember him?
Billy Squire got screwed over from the music biz and was black listed for some reason - he had some awesome songs back in the day. I still listen to him with many of his songs in my I-tunes collection.
Of course. They should definitely at least do "The Stroke"!!!
In the Dark. My fav Billy S song.
"You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna a fish!!!" RIP Gary Richrath, epic guitarist!!! 😃
"Riding The Storm Out" is the next REO tune to react to.🇨🇦🔥
Yes!!!!!
live version is great!
Yes but, Golden Country would be a better choice
RIP Gary Richrath. Highly underatted guitarist.
I have been blessed to have gone to an REO Concert and to grow up in this era. Love me some REO!
46 years old on 4/2024 - greatest road song of all time!
"REO Speedwagon" means the following "Ransom Eli Olds" was the founder of Oldsmobile and the first production model Olds was referred to as the Speedwagon.
Dig deep early 70s Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo best ever and golden country live
My first rock concert was REO Speedwagon when they toured "You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish" the album this song is from. I had not heard of them before that but I was impressed with how good their music was. I remember them doing this song. They spoiled me for any band I saw after that. Kevin Cronin is a high energy positive front man. He talked to the audience often reminding us that we're there to party together and have a good time. Great loud music with an incredible light show. I only smoked pot or dropped LSD at concerts in the 70's, never got drunk in case of a blackout. I got their album "You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish" that week.
Did Patrick smile????? OMG a reaction. Loved it!
Actually saw this tour. They were a rocking band but never got the respect they deserved. After this they went commercial and had big success with "Keep On Loving You" & "Take It On The Run" more "radio Friendly" songs.
It's R-E-O Speedwagon. They were the initials of Ransom E. Olds, founder of Oldsmobile.
There are certain songs that fill you with joy from the moment you hear them. This is one of them! The singing, the lyrics, the instruments, especially the smoking hot guitar and organ, just lift you up off the ground and take you to another place! Musical ecstasy! Glad to see you two young guys discovering the incredibly great rock and roll we grew up with in the 60s, 70s and 80s. What a time to be a kid, teenager and young adult! You have lots more to enjoy so do it to it! 🎸💘🎸👌😎🎸👍
R.E.O Speedwagon has been around since 1969 in Champagne Illinois named for the founder of the Oldsmobile motor company Ransom Eli Olds, The Speedwagon was an early 1900's truck which was the first automobile that was fast and powerful and was often used as a fire truck to carry tanks of water to fires. They are still rocking arenas all over the world today 50 plus years later with over 20 top 40 hits and 2 number one songs. Their 1981 album Hi Infidelity was the number one album of 1981 with 5 top 40 hits. Keep On Loving You was their first number one and many consider the birth of the power ballad and Take It On The Run was a top 5 hit. Songs from the 70's decade like this song and Time For Me To Fly ( I consider the greatest breakup song of all time). Also check out Keep Pushin, Riding The Storm Out ( live version). Golden Country from their second album in 1972 as well as mid 80's songs like Can't Fight This Feeling ( their biggest hit) Keep The Fire Burning and so many more. Too long of a list for this page.
This band is good, back in the day there were so much great music
This eta of REO is pretty well overlooked as rock bands. Gary Richrath is one of top 5 of his era.
Many years ago I was married . I played this for him and Time For Me To Fly for my swan song .
Lucky to see them front row, Anchorage Alaska, late 1980’s. Priceless!!!
REO's best song.
Live in 1983 the 2 lead guitarist passing bak an fourth was kick Ass
Listen to “flying turkey trot” or “Golden country” you’ll see Gary Richrath play that guitar like the master he was. RIP Gary
They are the best band ever. Ever. They were awesome live. Kevin led the hand and Gary played awesome riffs. I saw the at the spotarium in the 70s. The best
I saw REO this tour in New Orleans. They played at U.N.O. with Survivor and Zebra.
"157 Riverside Avenue"
From the great album "You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish" :)
REO was a truck manufacturer back in the day.
You guys seem to like songs that have a message for everyone in them, well REO Speedwagon made a song called "Golden Country", and the message it sends out still holds true to this day. You really should give it a listen.
Great in concert.
REO was such a great band with classic songs with positive messages. Their later stuff was too mainstream and you would hardly know it was the same band what a shame.
Gerry Rafferty Baker Street - you guys will love it guaranteed. Enjoying all of your reactions.
Music gives so much joy and brings people together.
Ridin the Storm Out Live and Back on the Road Again is a heavy banger. Time For Me To Fly.
I grew up in these times and seen REO many times and they nailed it every single time. Amazing concerts back in the day at a fair price. Great times and great memories.
My favorite REO song! It's something to happy vibe to. We need that these days.
They were a super live group. Maybe the best live group back in the early 80s and Gary Richrath was one of the most underrated lead guitars ever
Time for me to fly, keep on loving you also great
In My Dreams is a hidden gem from them. One of my Favorites!! I think you both would enjoy it. 😉 Keep up the great reactions!! 👍
I just returned home from seeing these guys live tonight and came here because I am still amped up from seeing them all these years later after this video.
Not sure this was a good idea because now I am more amped up when I should be in bed.
Hehe
:)
He guys, it was great to see your reaction to this rock n roll legend of a song! I would like to see your reaction to: "Don't let him go." by REO Speed wagon. Please don't listen to it before you first listen and show your reaction. You guys are great! Music is universal transcending all boundaries.
Ridin’ the Storm Out is their best rocker
Saw them at Notre Dame. We were in Festival Seating, (standing in front of the stage). It was awesome!🎶💜✌
This song in concert is fire….
know this song for 40 years and never saw this video....cool
4 songs: Keep on loving you, Take it on the run, Cant Fight this Feeling, Building the Bridge.
and they are still touring!!!
R.E.O./T.W.O album, "Golden Country". Great band from the Midwest that carved it's own niche on the road, paying their dues. 1972
Neil Doughty's organ solo is gold.
Wild that Gary Richrath fans haven't found and invaded your review. Beautiful review and comments. Since no hundreds of Gary comments like on every other REO UA-cam video can actually give mine. Gary was such an entertaining person and always loved interacting with the crowd. Can tell it made happy. Probably seen them live 40 times, 25 times with Gary. Best live group ever.
Fantastic vocal
REO Speedwagon is a fire engine.
This was our pot smoking, beer drinking teenage lifestyle. This is how we were 24/7. Damn it was fun!
Ok, I’m going to keep saying it. JUDAS PREIST: Riding On The Wind! studio version please, it’s the cleanest. It’s badass guys. Very good, very high energy Classic Hard Rock song. One of their very best. I fucking guarantee it. It slams and is a great example of the band at the peak of their power and popularity. I don’t recommend bad songs ever. I only pick high quality, aggressive, great songs. That’s how I originally listened to them. Which song on the record hits hardest? That’s what I went for!
The straight for your throat songs. The kind that gets you pumped up and bouncing in your chair George. That’s what THIS IS. I know this stuff, I really do. I go back to the very beginning with all these bands. I started seeing them from their first tours on up. That’s how I’ve seen so many concerts. I went every tour! Ha Ha! It was nuts!
When you finally get tired of me asking for it and decide to shut me up, just do me one favor. Do it loud the way it’s supposed to be. Be ready, it starts in forth gear. You will hear why Rob Halford was considered THE BEST Metal singer of all time. Like I said, this is at their peak with a full power song. No joke, just high energy.
Halford BLASTS on this song.
Saw them live. What a treat! Underrated and overlooked, but not forgotten. "Riding the Storm Out" Live is you next!
Love REO Speedwagon!
Cruzin’ the freeway in my 71 T-Bird windows down, radio cranked up Detroit Michigan Yeah, Baby !!!!
This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary(RIP) guitar.
Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12 year old sister and said you're gonna love this. She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO.
THIS was the good stuff.
I saw them 4 times, once at the Stockton Asparagus Festival shortly after Gary left the band and they were working a new guitarist. It was before Dave
Amato, and I was sitting on the grass right in front of the stage (close enough to scare the band) and he was playing one thing but the sound was a tape of Gary. I looked at Kevin and he knew what I was thinking and just kind of smiled and gave me a "what else can we do now?" look. But it was fun anyway. Something to pass along so that was cool.
FWIW They're currently on tour with STYX and Loverboy.🎸🎸🎸
Love this one… the 🎹 keys… 👍🏻❤️🎼❤️
If you want to understand and feel the USA Midwest heartland, this is it.
What a surprise,,,, brilliant!!!
Hello from the states. Great job guys. So glad you got to experience REO speedwagon. Check out their song time for me to fly.
Epic rock song! Love it !
Saw them in concert back in 1990 and they sounded amazing live! One of the best live bands I've heard. Next you should check out "Time for Me to Fly" - my 1982 senior high school motto. Love you guys, I watch all of your videos!
Thanks guys for this video, I was literally dancing in my chair Lol, great uplifting song, another great band from yesteryear 👍
Also try “I Can’t Fight This Feeling”
Glad you enjoyed REO- Must hear" Ridin the Storm Out"
RIP Gary !!
I wonder when Gary started playing guitar if he had as Much trouble switching chords as I did? It just doesnt seem like he never did. He just came out of the womb playing like that.
Not "Rio", but R. E. O. Speedwagon, named for a 1915 truck model from Olds.
That was totally NOT a live recording, it was the studio version pieced together with some live video clips. They really are great live though. Watch them do this song at Live Aid if you really want to see them perform it live
REO Speedwagon was a firetruck...
REO was the first concert I ever saw....I was 16 and they played in the local junior college gym. It was a great show. I would suggest Golden Country live, it's an amazing song. The guitar player - Gary Richrath - is highly underrated IMO.
I was lucky enough to grow up in the Midwest when these guys (from Illinois) toured small venues on their road to success.
Saw them twice in concert, early Seventies and early Eighties; they are fire. A lot more to dive in to with this band. Great musicianship, great energy...
I had this album. Love this song.
Seen them so many times I lost count! Haha!!!
You really have to be old Rockers like us to know these guys! Ha Ha! They were huge at that time. Good band.
I’ve always loved the album title “You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish”. Love REO
Is that Justin Verlander on the left??? Thanks guys, love old REO!!!!!!!
Gosh, that's really good! I've heard of this band but don't know many songs, except Keep On Loving You and Can't Fight This Feeling. According to Google, they formed back in 1967 and cultivated a following in the 1970s. Thanks so much for the reaction, guys, really good.
157 Riverside Avenue best song
@@davidmooney2512 Hi David, many thanks for that - I will check it out. Cheers.
Great observation. You should check out their double live album, You Get What You Play For. It's one of the best live albums. Golden Country is a rock anthem and Ridin The Storm Out is a classic. 157 Riverside and many other songs on the album are great.
@@randybaker6042 Thanks Randy. I see that Ridin' the Storm Out has been mentioned quite a bit in the comments so I'll definitely check that one out too - cheers.
@@annemaclean6634 the live version off of You Get What You Play For. Happy listening.
Listen to REO Speedwagon….Time for me to fly
Take it on the run is my favourite 🖖🏻🇨🇦😊
Bad. Ass. song. Epic!
Love this song but never seen that video. Thanks.
I'm 69 years old, I can't tell you how much I regret not seeing this fantastic band back in the day.
Same with me except I really should have known them. I discovered them somehow buying a Best of CD for the car and that's all I played to and from this new job and beyond. Incredible stuff. I think they are touring again or are about to be.
Great to see you guys smiling and digging this all the way through.😎🌻🌄☀
sustained eargasm.
On the road with STYX this past summer. Fun show. Still sounding good.
