  • This was my first ride after bringing the new ride home. After the ride, I think I had maybe 150 miles on the odometer. You'll see and hear my excitement while riding this all-new motorcycle in my garage. I know it's a long video, but I tend to ramble a bit. I'll get better, lol.

    Awesome video, I have a gen 3 klr650 and I think I'm ready for an upgrade, I think the v strom 800de is a natural progression from the KLR

      That progression is working well for me. Having 6th gear is awesome. 😉 I say go for it. 💯

    In my opinion, the Vstrom 800de is one of the best value for the dollar bikes out there, and now a small company is due to release an add on cruise control for roughly 300 bucks.

      I agree with you 100%. I'm waiting to see Big Rock Moto's review on that cruise control, I have high expectations for it. $300 is a bit steep for my budget, but I may be able to work it out eventually. lol. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great one!

    Congrats on the new “toy” brother from Az. I would love to see your mic setup inside the helmet cause there’s barely any wind noise and just enough engine sound. Plus you come out very loud and definitely very clear at that. Thanks in advance!! 🫡🇺🇸🌵
    PS new sub as well help ya get up there in the teens for starters

      Thanks for stopping by and thank you for subscribing. Just starting and trying to figure it all out. 😁 I'll do a video about the setup soon. It is a GoPro Hero 5 with a GoPro microphone adapter and a relatively inexpensive microphone in the helmet. I have another microphone setup I'm going to try as well.

    I’ve got a big Harley dresser, a little Honda, and a Yamaha dual-sport. I’ve been very seriously considering adding a V-Strom 800DE to my stable. My wife and I have ridden two-up on the Harley all over the country (coast to coast) and always have a great time doing it.
    I really like the 800DE, but I haven’t seen much feedback on riding two-up with it. My wife is smaller, but I’m heavyset. I’m not concerned about the 800DE handling me, but I’m not sure how it’d do with both of us on it, especially with loaded panniers. My guess is that I might need to get heavier springs. We wouldn’t be doing crazy stuff… probably mostly instate highway rides with occasional national forest gravel roads. We’d likely still use the Harley for multi-state rides. I’m also slightly considering the 1050DE, but I’d rather have a middleweight adventure bike. Most of the time it’d probably be just me on it, and I get the impression that the 800DE would be more capable off-road.
    My question for you is: how is it on two-up rides? Have you been able to do much? This is the first video of yours I’ve watched, so forgive me if you’ve covered that in a later video (if you have, point me to it).
    Also, am curious what phone mount you use.

      Hey there, thanks for stopping by. Sorry, it took me a few days to respond.
      Looking forward to the next rides with my wife. We've had a good start with shorter rides, with her finding the seat was quite comfortable. But the real test will be on longer rides, which we're planning to do soon. I'll be sure to share my thoughts after those.
      The phone mount is a Quadlock case mount with their vibration dampener. I have used Quadlock products for years and had this mount on my KLR (the dampener was really needed on the KLR, lol).

    Three thoughts and one question for you.
    1.) Glad to hear you take the Missus into consideration for your ride decisions. Family first always brother. No family = No life. That’s the truth.
    2.) Throttle Assist from a dead stop has been a VStrom feature for many years now. Possibly decades. It’s there on the 650 which is an absolute legend of a motorcycle that I am fortunate to own. Suzuki makes bulletproof machines with thoughtful features.
    3.) Your delight at owning and riding this excellent motorcycle is quite evident. I wish you many safe miles with this beaut.
    Question : why did you go with this and not with the Honda Transalp. That bike too is excellent I hear; and it is 22kgs lighter. Most of us who’ve been in this game long enough know that lighter is always better.

      Hi there, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your feedback. The Transalp wasn't available to me when I was looking; I might have considered it if the timing was right. My wife liked the style of the V-Strom, so that helped with my decision-making for sure. ;)

    • @dwayneneufeld1696
      @dwayneneufeld1696 5 місяців тому +2

      The Transalp has one advantage, weight. And it's not as big of an advantage as people think since it's missing some equipment the DE has.
      The Suzuki has far better suspension and more travel, is fully adjustable and easy to adjust. Transalp only has preload and is a pain to adjust in the rear. Less ground clearance, and no skid plate or rear rack. 1 1/2 hours labor to change the air filter... if you are handy? The DE carries 1 additional gallon of gas. So if the Transalp was equiped as the 800DE the weight numbers would be much closer. I could go on... Road test the 800 DE and see what you think.
      I own an Africa Twin and love it but I do not give Honda an automatic pass like these Transalp fans do. Do the research. and you might be surprised.

    You mentioned almost being able to flat foot the bike- how tall are you/what inseam, out of curiosity?

    • @kentuckyadv
      @kentuckyadv  Місяць тому +1

      I'm 5'9" with about 32 inseam. With the factory preload I was able to flatfoot at a stop because of the soft suspension. Now that I've messed with the suspension adjustments, I'm more on the balls of my feet when stopped. I need to better understand the adjustments this thing has. lol

    I did have a 2018 klr650 and traded it in on a tenere 700..let me tell you the tenere is an awesome bike but very tall and top heavy so I ended up selling it and got the vsrom 800de adventure..the adventure is black and comes with luggage crash bars and a n aluminum scid plate..in my experience so far the vsrom 800de is much smoother and more nimble than the tenere

    • @kentuckyadv
      @kentuckyadv  Рік тому

      Sounds like a good progression from KLR to 800DE. :) I really wanted a Tenere, but I'm glad things didn't work out for me there, and I eventually got the V-Strom. Good things come to those who wait I guess. lol
      Thanks for stopping by! :)
