How Good Is the New Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE Off-Road?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лис 2023
- For 2023, Suzuki did an overhaul of their flagship adventurer, giving it a significant off-road upgrade in the form of a 21" front wheel, increased suspension travel and ground clearance, a more-rigid swingarm and subframe, larger serrated footpegs, beefier sump protection, a new dedicated Gravel ride mode, off-road ABS, and more.
Are the latest round of changes to the Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE a major upgrade in off-road performance? We recently got our hands on a V-Strom 1050DE and put it through its paces over several days of rigorous off-road testing. In this video, we evaluate its performance in sand, technical single track, whoops, hill climbs, and more. Plus we ring it out on some proper twisty roads and clock some hours on the super slab to see if its street prowess was retained after the updates.
More details on the updates to the 2023 Suzuke V-Strom 1050DE can be found here:

Whew, pushing 550 pounds of strom over some of that terrain?! Respect.
Much appreciated! It's one way to keep in shape! 😆
You are pushing the limits of the bike...
99 % of those who ll by this kind of bike will just never go as hard as you!!
Great video, great ride I have a 2022 v strom 1050 xt and it gives a big smile every day!!
Really enjoyed this one! Great to see the big Strom getting a proper dirt test.
She's a big girl but exceeded my expectations!
Top video dude, finally seeing a vstrom offroad😊
We've tried it in the past and it didn't always go so well. But this V-Strom is a true adventure bike. Thanks!
I've never been excited about a vstrom until now.
Suzuki is finally taking the whole off-road thing serious with its ADV Bikes. It's a major improvement for the V-Strom 10X0 line.
800de it is better for offroad. The 800de has 220mm of suspension travel (only 1cm less than the DesertX) instead of 170cm in the 1050de. 800de has a larger ground clearance (220 where 1050 has 190). Its weigh less and are still suitable for long trips. Only the lack of cruise control...
Yep..its almost perfect! Id buy one tomorrow if it had cruise!! No cruise is a deal breaker on a bike like the 800de.
I test road both last weekend. The 800 is much more nimble and easier the handle at a stop or offroad. The 1050 is better in every other way. Much more comfortable, faster, wind protection.
Owning an 800de I've come to realize after riding 2 up and with luggage a 1050 is a better choice for sure for long distance touring.
The 800de can and will do it fully loaded, but you can tell it way more that the 1050.
I have limited experience off road other than some logging trails but it, the 800de, will do wayyy more off road than I probably will ever be able to do with it.....
I really enjoyed that video especially with you managing the bike through the rocks and sand. Really like the look of this bike. Thanks.
Glad to hear that. Thank you! It's a beautiful bike for sure. They really did a great job with the color schemes and the classic DR Big styling.
@@robdabney Agreed. Thanks again.
Nice. I have a 2003 1000 V-Strom that I geared down one tooth on the front sprocket and it made a huge difference at low speeds off road and anywhere else you need torque. No discernible penalty on the highway.
Looks like fun. Can't believe you didn't do any suspension setup for you! A couple clicks and a turn or two here and there can make a massive difference! Setting sag and compression + rebound on my 800de made 1000% difference.
I just purchased a leftover ‘23 DE. Great great underrated motorcycle! Suzuki has outstanding deals going on right now. Absolutely love this v-twin! Cruise Control, 6 axis ECU, up and down QS that’s a joy to use! The TFT dash is outstanding, this bike is a complete joy on the street, plenty of passing power, all day riding comfort too! I’m 6’4” tall and this motorcycle fits me to a T. Great job Suzuki!! This DE doesn’t feel top heavy at all, unlike the AT that I tested. Home run Suzuki!!
I just got last years model, too. And, I agree it seems to a very comfortable machine and I am only 6'2". Haven't ridden it off road yet, but it is smooth as silk on the highway!
Very thorough and nice review!!👌🏻
The terrain and your riding ability have produced a great review.
Best adv channel out there, love the reviews. I've bought two bikes based on your reviews.
Thanks so much for the feedback! Means a lot to us.
Looks great in blue. Looks like Suzuki made some good improvements. I bleed orange but this seems like a good buy. Nice review!
thanks, very good review!
Absolutely excellent review.
great video. thanks.
You are a very good rider.
same. removed centerstand on my f800gs. rarely used it, clatters, catches rocks, heavy.
I love it so much!
Proper riding
I would never be able to ride the bike this well, but that plush suspension is exactly why I would buy one.
Don't sell yourself short my man, anyone can ride well. It just takes practice, we are all human. Most of us...
I hope ADV Pulse will do a video review of the new Suzuki 800DE!
Pretty impressive machine
I would not want to be on some of the single type of trails you were on. Best for basic off road. adventures. Looks good and the price is much cheaper than a euro bike.
Those crash bars look like foot rests / highway pegs ??
Μπράβο αλάνι!!!
airfilter changes mid-ride sucks though eh ;-)

Obrigado!
I will get the street version.
Love the bike and am ready for a change. I think I'll wait until the upgrades are done in a year or 2. Why they put a tubed wheel on the front I will never understand.
A lot of folks who mainly ride off-road prefer the tube in front because a small dent in the rim will not lead to a flat if you have a tube. But it would make sense to ship the bike with tubeless and people who want a tube could always put one in.
100 % 😊@@robdabney
I'm 6.5 am I going to fit on that Suzuki ? what you think . I try with AT but tank shape is bad for my knee going out of grove.
Seat height is a little taller than the AT and the 1050DE does feel longer and more spread out. I'm 6'2" and it was roomy. You should give it a try!
Im 5,8 do you think it will feet for me?
@@youssefallali716 Might be a little tall in the saddle but try it out and see what you think.
Do you have to be on a stand to switch modes?
Nope, just close the throttle while riding and you're good to change to whatever you want.
Can’t believe your phone didn’t exit stage left on that one. Looked sketchy as.
That's the Hondo Garage holder. The vibration damper makes it shake around like crazy. I recently modified it to reduce the wiggle by shortening the backing wires.
Where is the air filter? Under the tank?
It's under the tank.
Aaah too bad. I prefer simple task to be simple, not complex lol.
I don't understand you testers, the suspension has easy adjustment, but, no one spends a minute or so to adjust it to the conditions.
Which tyres are those?
They come standard with the Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tires. We swapped them for the Heidenau K60 Rangers.
@@ADVPulseVideos Thank you :)
Dual headlights would look a lot better 🤔
You need to leave your weight back when going down from the hill.
Suzuki should have made the front wheel tubeless...
Is there a more reliable motorcycle than a VStrom?
No
Someone sounds a bit breathless. 😂
😆 Yeah, high elevation and 550# motorcycle going down a steep, loose, hill does that to you. Gotta work on my cardio!
@robdabney . Nah. Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
I like a 250/300 dirt bike. Or a 500 dual sport.
I’ve ridden and presently still own both a ‘Strom and an Africa Twin. While I’ll always have a place in my heart for the ‘Strom, for most things the Africa Twin DCT is a far better bike. Especially given its MSRP (insert solo trumpet playing Taps) sadly, the 1050 is past its best before date. Well past.
No.
75 pounds less weight, 2 inches more suspension travel and 10 more horsepower and it would be competitive with the KTM 890.
It have not been created to compete with 890.
This Bike will never break down though. It’s bulletproof.
Still using the pre historic bones of a 15 year old bike,.
Well to be fair, the bones are from the 2014 model when it got a complete redesign. That engine though has been around in the same general form since the 90s going back to the TL1000S days.
Great bones are great bones. But then again, I know what a Featherbed frame is.
Ever heard of K.I.S.S.?
@@cowarddonnie-ji5yz
In today's age of motorcycles... and the cost of a new bike.. I expect more.. not a warmed over 10 year old platform..
Maybe you missed the part about upgrades to the swing arm and sub - frame
