You all probably dont care at all but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I love any tips you can offer me
Thank you. I liked the introduction to building my guitar business again. I did it in my twenties at Beaches Music Shoppe in Florida and after five and half years and drawn more towards performing, I closed up shop and went gigging. I'm now retired and interested in teaching and building quality friendships once again. I could use your input now and then.
+Nathan Payne I don't recommend them personally. I think it's better to develop your own curriculum so that you can customize for various students, control the flow of your lessons, and mindfully evolve as an instructor. If you're simply teaching someone else's cookie cutter curriculum, it's not as easy to develop a unique learning experience. I of course looked at a variety of other books including "play in a day" and other books from the 60s and 70s for inspiration.
Research theory and scales every day! There is an epidemic of modern guitarists who play at an expert level, but are severely deficient in theory. You don’t have to be a theory expert to teach beginners. But if you study every day for a year you will catapult your knowledge.
This channel brought the hope back to me. Thank you for being so professional and so smart. I'm serious. I think you are making a very very high quality contribution to people with these videos. Thaaaaanks, keep it up.
I wish UA-cam was around like 12 years ago when I first picked up a guitar. Would have been a lot easier. Congrats on your channel, it's pretty informational.
Thanks Benjamin, I took my lessons business quite seriously for many years. My teaching and business strategies evolved as long as I was actively seeking new methods, mostly borrowing from instructors in other disciplines. There is so much inspiration out there, and I'm sure that you are a fine instructor now, but we all have room to grow. Thanks for checking out this video, And sharing a friendly comment. -Rob
@@swiftlessons hi sir pls help me how I can learn in regular classes is it offline or online ,if it's offline what's the address and how can i register.
Thanks man! Ive been looking for a video like this. Im currently working on a video course to teach people how to play the guitar and work up to intermediate to advanced playing. This gave me some good insight as far as the direction I need to take everything :)
Keith Stephens Hey Keith, thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad to be of help. It took me along time to find my way as a businessman. The info I shared here was learned from other professionals, and also from seminars. I always look to those in fitness and martial arts for marketing advice fyi, they're always on the cutting edge. Best. -Rob
Great stuff! I used to teach at a music store that I also worked at. I moved to another state and my local music store only hires guitar teachers with degrees in music. I don't have a studio and live in a 1 bedroom apt. There is no where for parents to hang out during the lesson. Rather not teach from my apartment anyway. Trust doesn't come easy with me. Most people are the same way about you coming to their house also. Plus, teaching at someone's house can be a logistical nightmare when you have a lot of students. If you can't teach out of a local music store or studio you're screwed. Unless of course you want to throw your hat into UA-cam. Not much money to be made there for all your time and effort unless you've got books and/or DVD's. There's always Skype, good luck with that. Still think you want to teach guitar?
There were times when teaching at my home was not viable and other times when transportation was an issue. I got around it by renting a room at the local community center and people loved it because it was a safe, neutral location. I’ve taught at cafes, schools, even a Brazilian jiu jitsu gym, whatever works!
I've been playing guitar for about 17 years and my neighbor overheard me playing and he always catches me outside when I walk my dog and he asked me if I would give him guitar lessons but I taught myself how to play so I was kind of hesitant to tell him yes , I know I could teach somebody to get to my level but like I said I taught myself by listening to the radio and spending hours trying to replicate the sounds so I don't know music theory or any of that fancy stuff lol ,I do know what all my cords are and how to play them in a thousand different ways and I know a bunch of warm-up scales but I wouldn't call myself a professional. so I think I doubt myself because I didn't go to school and I don't know music theory and all that stuff I just am the type of person that wants to have all the answers if someone asked me because if I was teaching somebody and they asked me something and I didn't know the answer I would feel like I was ripping them off. maybe I can just teach beginner level ? cuz after you learn your first couple chords you take off. What do guitar lessons normally cost ? I never took any so I have no idea ,I would be teaching chord progression at beginner level
I took guitar lessons for 5 years and then taught myself afterwards for 3. Im the exact same cause in my guitar lessons I would just tell my teacher what I wanted to learn and he would bring me the tab and teach it to me. I think I can do the same for beginner to intermediate level students but I would have to clarify that I'm not teaching theory.

That’s exactly the style of guitar lessons I had too. I was a quick learner for a guitarist but just like u I always just learned the songs I like, not once did I learn a scales or theory and I consider myself a good player

Hey mate, I have a free, in-depth Guitar Teaching course on my channel that goes through how to find new guitar students and build your website for your guitar teaching business. :)
What would be some of the advantages and disadvantages of being a "self-employed" guitar teacher (like what your video is about) as compared to working at a music store like Guitar Center?
+Nathan Payne the main advantage is the opportunity to earn the amount of money that is congruent with the amount of time and energy you put in. At my peak of teaching private lessons, I was easily able to make a good living. I don't think that's possible if you're just an employee. Disadvantage is you need to be a skilled promoter or you don't earn... GC has a built on clientele, so your guaranteed some students. Nothing better than being your own boss in my opinion!

Im just curious, and this is for every guitar teacher here, how long did it take to get students. Also round the number up to the nearest 5 from each year.
I think it depends greatly on where your business is located, how aggressive you are with your marketing, and the quality of your instruction, among other factors. Personally, I took me about a year to build up a client base of around 25 students. I was offering free private lessons, teaching group classes at local non-profits, teaching at high school continuing education and after school programs, and those initiatives provided me with a lot of exposure. At the same time, I was using SEO tactics to gain top search position on google, and worked hard to ensure that I had the most five star reviews of any instructor in town. Keep in mind that I was doing everything and anything I could do to attract more students, including dropping flyers, handbills off at local business, and hosting open mics with my students. I'm sure some of the things I spent money and time on weren't useful, but when you're opening a business, everything is worth a shot. I hope this was helpful.
