    i like that there's a replacement in case i need one. not gonna lie though i was hoping you'd fix it instead of just buying a new and better amp . I'd probably change the title because its a bit misleading. maybe "how to replace your amp"

    I was fixing many Klipsch subs for many years, the problem in the 95% of the units are the two IRF 740 mosfets in the power supply.
    I hear some technicians to say "the power supply can't be fixed"
    Power supply can be fixed if you buy the IRF 740 in a trusted company like Digikey.
    Ebay sellers sell counrfeit transistors.
    You need a desoldering gun for replace the bad transistors, I use a Hakko 808.
    Cheers.

      I'm working on one of these power supplies right now and found a shorted mosfet. Q401. In your experience, does replacing the mosfet generally fix the problem or is there another issue that caused it to fail?

    • @treadmillrepair754

    Do you know how many volts that power supply outputs? I'm wondering if it's 12 volts and would therefore work well in a vehicle.
    Edit: I just pulled the amp on my SW-8 and rewired the speaker wires to the speaker inputs on the back of the case to make it a passive subwoofer speaker. Then I used a class D amp from Amazon that cost all of $32 to power it. The Amazon listing is titled "ICQUANZX 2x50W +100W 2.1 Channel Subwoofer Amplifier Board with Treble and Bass Control, Dual TPA3116 Chip, DC 12-24V". Sounds great to my ears when powered with a 170W/20v laptop power supply. So anyone in this situation who wants to keep the sub might consider that route.

    Vintage Japanese built integrated amplifiers are just so much better made. They get warm and need proper air circulation because they are class AB amplifiers but, sound extremely natural and crisp. If it overheats because your weren't careful about ventilation, it will go into protection mode to prevent the output transistors from getting ruined. Love my vintage made in japan pioneer A9 solid state integrated amplifier and it's built like a piece of medical equipment compared to the bash plate amplifier. If I had that same or similar klipsch subwoofer and plate amp has faltered like yours, I would've put in a dayton audio plate amp in its place.

    Thanks redonKiLaus for articulating this video so much better then when I made my UA-cam video a couple years ago, I was 100% winging it on the fly at the time. I found out the hard way at the time that trying to desolder the OEM Klipsch board was going to be tricky since it takes so much heat to remove the components with the risk of damaging the board traces. At that time there wasn't any online help for a fix other then sending the amp module off to be serviced, so after doing a bit of cross checking I found the power supply schematic to the Bash 300s made for a perfect direct replacement. Over two years on & the Bash 300s replacement power supply fix is still going strong (used the Klipsch Klipsch RW-12D for at least six hours this evening for the first leg of my complete nonstop Star Wars movie marathon to prepare myself for the upcoming Star Wars The Force Awakens).

    Hi, Great video. I have a Klipsch XW-500D that died on me a few months back. My problem is trying to get inside the thing. I've removed all screws and nothing comes off. It's like the sub and the back-panel are both cemented to the enclosure. Am I going to need brute force to get in or am I missing something. I don't want to break the thing but I do want to get in and see what's wrong. In the video you showed that you removed all the screws then the next scene you had the panel off. Well I need those middle scenes on how you did that. lol

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  8 років тому +1

      There is often a double sided sealing tape between the flange on the amp and the box, or the amp may have simply stuck to the box. The easiest way to get it off is by prying if you don't mind marring the box - if you want to preserve the finish, using a razor blade to cut the sealant may work well. Thanks for watching!

    • @mpmarvin999
      @mpmarvin999 8 років тому

      Thanks so much for the reply. I'll try your methods to get inside. I'd rather have a marred and working amp than a pretty door stop. lol

    • @mpmarvin999
      @mpmarvin999 8 років тому

      Had a chance to get inside and look around. Don't really know what I'm looking for as my amp seems to be the BASH 500 and I think yours is the BASH 300. I have some photos of it. I see one area around a capacitor and resistor and such where the yellow glue is dark brown now. If that is an indicator of something I'm in more trouble than just that because expanded around that area where the diodes are the glue is also dark brown. Is this junk now? Also the BASH 500S doesn't seem to be an "exact fit" for this one as there seems to be more connectors on the new one being sold that isn't on mine and other components as well from pictures I've seen. Below are pictures I've taken of my wounded amp. Also is there a fuse any where on this thing? I don't see the conventional fuse anywhere

    I'm in the process of troubleshooting my amp as well. The information out there like this video is of no help. Theres plenty of videos out there to show you how to test components. A few people I read about claim the mosfets go bad and simply replace them. I dont accept that.Mine tested fine, You need to find out why the mosfetts blew in the first place if they did. I have ordered capacitor replacements from mouser. 2 larger capacitors 220uf 200wv have gone bad "high ESR".And the glue that they used back then becomes hard and brittle and starts to become conductive and causing shorts.

    So I have a Klipsch KSW10 and I recently heard a pop. It is still playing, had power but very very low volume and sounds distorted. I looked at the speaker itself seems to be ok, no noises from the cone and it feels solid. When I put it at full volume, sounds distorted and hardly any air from the port. Is it safe to say the amp is fried. Not sure if I should fix it or replace sub.

My Japan made built like a tank Pioneer A9 amplifier will provide the juice for them. Q Acoustics 3020i speakers are made in China but, just because they are of excellent quality. However, Bash amplifiers are junk and should be avoided. Dayton audio plate amps are better quality than Bash amps. Even a cheap lepai class D mini amp are better quality than Bash amps. One 25uf 50V capacitor for under $2.00 and a little solder work solved it for us.

      Sounds like the amp/computer unit is getting power, but the speaker isn't. There's something wrong in the circuitry that outputs to the speaker - I've not dealt with that issue on one of these subs before, so I'm afraid I can't give any specific advice besides poking around to try to find bad components or continuity issues. Seeking professional help may well be necessary in your situation, but the repair diagnosis and cost may outweigh the cost of a new sub. I wish you luck with your endeavour, and thanks for watching!

      Yes new one klipsch r12sw cost 250 euro. Is it even good as rw12d?last question:)

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  8 років тому

      The R12SW is very highly rated, so I would assume it is just as good as the RW12D. 250 euro is a good price for one, too; here in the US it costs the equivalent of 325 euro. If a diagnosis costs over 50 euro, it is probably worth it to simply purchase a new one. If you feel like trying to fix the old one yourself once you have the new one, you don't have to worry about ruining the old one either, since you already have a replacement.

    So I have a Klipsch sub-10 that is not playing any sounds. It powers on for I see the blue light indicating power, and If I place the cable wire next to a terminal on my receiver, I hear a humming sound from the sub. Is this a strong indicator that my internal amp is bad and all I need is the replacement amp listed above or should I run more test to find the exact issue?
    Update: one of my capacitors were bulging so I replaced it but didn't seem to fix it. I sent my board in to a guy who knows how to repair circuit boards so I will update when he fixes it. In the mean time, I bought this sub for 100 bucks to get me by.

      I would try testing it with another receiver to ensure that your audio distribution system is not the problem, but otherwise, yes that sounds like the amp went bad. If you swap for one of the amps shown in the video, then note that you will lose the functionality of the built-in screen if your sub has one. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

      I don't think this exact bash model will work for my cutout dimensions on the back of my sub are 11.5" x 6"

    • @mbartlo24
      @mbartlo24 7 років тому

      So If I need to purchase a new amplifier plate, it appears the one you have in the video is bigger than my KSW-10. Since the circuit board is not square shaped but instead L-shaped, I don't think I can transfer the Bash 300 to my plate. The Bash 300 dimensions are also larger than my cutout hole so trying to fit a larger amp plate over a smaller hole means I'd have to shave off a lot of wood to get it to fit. Any recommendations? If I cut my sub to get the Bash 300 to fit, I don't think the seal would be that great. Would that affect the quality of the base sound greatly?

    Thank you for the movie. I have a very similar amp myself, from a KSW-15. I wish I had found this movie earlier, cause it wasn´t easy to find the schematics and to get it fixed.
    The worst part, was realizing that the output stage is in fact class AB ... 300w RMS from a pair of IRF530/9530 (Pd = 88w @ 25c) .... I found that hard to believe. But then again... these amplifier dont last, do they? :)
    China in a nutshell .. selling 100w amplifiers with parts that can only handle 50w .. and that is if the parts are even genuine, which we all know, is not very often.

    Not to downplay your work with this amplifier plate because you did a lot, but the truth is you didn't "repair" it, you just bought a new amp. This is just my two cents, so take it for what it's worth. The first time I watched this, I had all my parts laid out and ready to go. I already had a soldering gun and a decent amount of diodes, capacitors, resistors, transistors, the things needed for a cheap fix because I couldn't afford $300 for a new amp at the time. Of course, I'm pausing it every few mins to see what you're doing and trying to do the same, but then I get to the end, and it felt like someone kicked me in the nuts...🤣.lol. It's not your fault, but I do have a suggestion with the hope that no one else feels this way. You might want to add something to the video heading that says, "not the cheap fix," or something. Only because it still pops up in my search engine as the #1 plate amplifier repair video, and maybe that's because I've watched it before, who knows. However, after a year or two, I forget about it, then I click on it, and that's when I remember the feeling of my nuts hurting, and I storm off into UA-cam looking for my pain to go away. (Ok, maybe that's a bit much...lol.) I'm sure it pops up frequently for others too because the RW-8, 10, 12 series had as many or more problems than the one a few years ago, the R-110sw, R-112sw, and R-115sw amps that everyone was upset about. I really do appreciate all the information you did share and it's great for beginners who are learning how to test things, but it's not really a repair video as it is a swap amp-video. Just my two cents, which means my opinion isn't worth much....lol.
