Tommy was in fact, the instigator here. The argument of grooming falls apart because Simone never showed interest in Tommy in his younger years. And stuff like this happens in real life. If I recall correctly, the president of France was in love with his then-teacher while he was underage. And subsequently pursued her romantically as soon as he legally could.
