People always talk about Raptors turning down 3 first round picks but never talk about the picks most likely being late first or heavily protected picks. Raptors did the right thing by getting actual players back and not crappy picks.

This wasn't a trade for RJ Barrett...this trade was centered around Immanuel Quickley. The Knicks were not going pay Immanuel Quickley or match any offers for him in the $125+ Million range in Summer 2024, so they had to trade him. RJ Barrett was thrown into the trade to help the salaries match. The Knicks actually did IQ a HUGE favor, because now he gets to be the staring PG in Toronto, and also gets a huge contract in the Summer of 2024. RJ Barrett's huge rookie extension contract already kicked in this season, so he's already taken care of for the next few years regardless of who he plays for.

Ian Begley literally reported that it was for RJ all along and IQ and Precious came later. Knick fans who do not understand will in time jus how good RJ will be. I recognize that Brunsons star power put us in win now mode. We jus couldn't wait for RJ to turn the corner. But make no mistake... He will.

Knicks send expiring contract (RFA) IQ for Raptors expiring contract (FA) OG. Both teams had to make a move as neither were going to be able to keep the asset. RJ and 2nd rounder for Flynn and Precious. However you want to slice it, the Raptors got value for OG and company as Precious and Flynn were throw away pieces, sad to say. The fact that the Knicks ownership actually okayd another trade with Masai is surprising and Masai wasted no time in fleecing them again. OG wanted to go to NY, he was going to take less than 40m to sign with NY, he already told agents that. So NY paid a hefty premium to get OG in a few months early and to clear out some cap space (RJ). Raptors lost OG who is a premium 3-D player but got potentially their future guard, a 2nd rounder and a project in RJ who the fanbase will salvate at.

For a team that hasn't won anything in decades, the Knicks sure are crapped on. When the players are on our team they trash. When they go to another team all of a sudden, they are super valuable, and we got fleeced. OG is what we have been waiting for RJ to turn into and with Brunson here Quick was never gonna get to start. Plus he was probably gonna walk in FA. The Knicks weren't gonna pay 25 mil for a 6th man. OG is the 3&D Wing the Knicks have been missing forever. How the Knicks got fleeced for an underperforming #3 pick making 26 mil and a guy who was gonna walk in FA is beyond me. AND we kept all our 1st rd picks. And if the Raps can't match Quicks RFA offer sheet they will lose him anyway. Its win win for both teams. Nobody got fleeced. We wee gonna lose a guy and they were gonna lose a guy. Even stevens

Raptor's Fan You sound like what I've been thinking along with many Raptor fans. I was thinking we've been waiting for OG to be what Barrett is. OG said he wanted a bigger role on Raptor's but never took the opportunity to take it. Overall he is a good player but doesn't drive the basket like Barrett and Barrett doesn't shoot 3's as well as OG except OG has lost his stroke a bit this year. Defensively OG wins that comparison but hopefully Quickly can make up that loss for us. And we were afraid he would walk and the end of the season because he wants a Max contract, so the fact that we got something is a win. And from what I hear Barrett's ceiling is a lot higher than he's playing and hopefully that will improve with players like Scottie and Paskal for now. Anyway both teams have a lot to look forward to by this trade.

If the Knicks give him a bigger role they will see his game deep in production. Just keep him as an 3 and D guy and everything should be good but his goal is a bigger role and he’s no butler who he thinks he is. He’s just defense and defender and guy that scored off assisted 3’s. If the Knicks give him the ball take his man off the dribble they’ll be disappointed in what they get. OG should give the Knicks a more efficient scorer.OG score about 25 pts per game when he shoots the ball 14+ times per game and RJ scores 19 at the same rate.OG is a better 3 point shooter and one of the best defenders in the league while making almost 50% of his shots…RJ may not have as many shots in Toronto as he did in New York bc he’s still the 3rd option and with Quickley as the starting PG those shot attempts won’t be like they were in NY..OG on the other hand will have as many shots that RJ did which may bring his scoring avg from 15 to about 18-20 pts per game…

RJ Barrett POV from a Knicks fan: I don't remember ever seeing a player who fluctuates game to game like he does. He played a very solid postseason last year, which was surprising, and outdid expectation. But ... yes ... he can be very frustrating, and struggles with consistency. If you go back through each of his season highlights since he was a rookie, you'll see a constantly evolving jumper. Last year he was the league's worst pull-up jump shooter, which shows he struggles to improve, IMO. Defensively he can also be very out of tune one play, then focused the next. In all honesty, the high expectation as 3rd pick was beyond what he's capable of, and to remove the constant doubt from NY is a good feeling for a lot of fans.
Seeing OG's unrestricted at the end of the year, he could've just come to NY without a qualm. But the Knicks had to get rid of Barrett, who they overpaid and regretted it, there's no doubt. Toronto gets IQ in the deal, and rebuilds with hopes for Barrett to figure it out by the time he hits his prime in the final year of his contract, 2027. He'll make almost $30M that year.

Sounds like your talking about OG. If you think your getting consistency with OG your dead wrong. His last 6 games 29, 22, 7, 5, & 9 points. His defense has not been that great this season either.
