    2 weeks between videos is agonizing! you need a full time camera operator/vlogger to follow you around all day lol, the stuff you do is so interesting, well explained, and a little bit addictive to follow along. keep it up mate!

    Everyone's a know-all, I know, but the problem you were having taking smaller buckets of gravel because of the slope can be overcome by angling the machine with the dozer blade facing the slope. Then lower the blade to slightly raise the machine. This massively increases stability and I've found it reduces the amount of shaking around you get in the cab when excavating too. Love the channel, keep doing interesting stuff :)

    I just caught the featurette "Homes on the Edge" on Barcroft TV of your "hobbit house!" After watching all your vids along the journey, it was great to see that major media did a feature on your works. I think what you have accomplished is beyond amazing! Always look forward to your next video & so glad to see your Dot!

    Another epic vid Kris and I just wish I had the dedication and urgency you have to escape from the system.
    I am lucky to live near woodlands to briefly escape from on-grid living but need to return to the ingrown comforts of on-grid living due to its familiarity.
    The problem is I have a few medical conditions, so I doubt I could completely escape from the system which is probably doing me more damage than good, so I guess the best thing I can do right is enjoying and heavily appreciating your efforts and achievements which are great.
    Keep up the good work!!

    Be neat to get a mixer where you mixed dirt from the building site to make cobb. Then the cobb has water activated ceramic in it so that the cobb ounce in it's shape or configuration cured rock hard. Even mix up cobb and water activated ceramic with the mixture being extruded filling earth bags that you then laid in place pounded down with the the cobb in the earth bag curing rock hard. 😊

    Kris you should keep your rain drains and your foundation drains separate. The foundation drains don't need all that extra water going through they only need to catch the water that's coming out of the ground. The surface runoff and the rainwater downspouts should take a separate path as to not overwhelm the foundation drains unnecessarily. I think you should run your rain drains higher up in the dirt after you've back filled around the building and just scratch them into the surface. Also I recommend using solid ABS or PVC pipe and not having drainage pipe for your rain drains you want to take all the rain water that you can away from the building. I always enjoy watching your videos been watching for a long time keep it up. Cheers

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  6 років тому +1

      The pipe is just running under then foundation to keep it out of the way. the whole downspout system is sealed. it isnt draining and flowing through the foundation. it goes under the foundation and around the building. and small amount of water that makes it to the foundation can drain through the stone but the roof water goes around the building and down the hill in a sealed pipe.

    I wish you all the best with the build of the shop Kris. Hopefully you get plenty of strong energetic volunteers to help fill bags and I am even more hopeful that you get hours upon hours of video for us to watch. 🤞🤞
    Unfortunately the shop looks smaller than what I remember you and Hannah laying out back in the spring and your stairway looks too narrow once you factor in 2 bag walls.
    I am sure it will all work out great.

    I was wondering if it would be easier to leave the floor level below the stairs and then make them dry on a bed of gravel and then put a wooden staircase in instead of the earthbag staircase?
    You could have some storage under the stairs if you made it with drawers in the risers or something?

    You should dump any excess power you get into an hho splitter compress the gasses then you can use a hydrogen fuel cell to get tons of power when needed a car battery sized power cell can be up to 6,000 watts of power

    You say in the intro that you're "making the walls level…" I presume you mean plumb. Is there some place in this series where you go into detail about retainment? This is a sticking point for me in my plans to build partially sub-grade with earth bags. We have good, clay soil on my land but I'd hate to have the walls start to come in when I'm old. Any resources you can recommend to guide me?

      the two water levels are aligned and then you sight down it with your eye until it lines up with the measurement stick. it then tells you if you are lower or higher than the measurement stick. it is very accurate.

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  4 роки тому +1

      @@blairphillips766 its really very simple, you have a tube in a u shape, the water in the tube self levels, you sight down the two levels with your eye and see where they line up on the measuring stick. whatever the difference is is the elevation difference. it no different from a laser level. your eye becomes the laser and the level is the water.
